How is the keyboard on the 1215B E450 compared to say Lenovos Ideapad or 12-inch laptops? Just as good or?

I purchased two Asus 1215b for my two sisters for Christmas. I have upgraded them to 8gb ram and 60gb OCZ Vertex Plus ssd and done a clean install of Win7 Premium x64.

Problem: One of the netbooks is completely silent. But on the other, the fan is louder than my overclocked quad core desktop. Something is wrong. Anyone else have loud fan issues? Is this a known issue/is there a known fix. I can't send it in for repair right now, Christmas is in a couple days; I would hate to have to tell one of my sisters to immediately send it in for repair, but it is a possibility if I must. taking that hard drive out is a P-I-T-A though, I really dont want to do that so I can send it in.

If you replaced the hard drive with an SSD you voided the warranty (dumb, I know - every laptop should allow RAM + HDD user replaceable). And Asus' warranty will take weeks. If it's new, if you can swap out the SSD for the HDD again, just return it as faulty, and get a replacement.

Is this a common problem on the 1215b? I'd like to know, I just hate loud laptops. :-/

Yeah, I was really pissed when I saw that yellow warranty void sticker on one of the last screws to get to the HDD. HDD's fail and are one of the few replaceable components on a laptop, who the crap do they think they are trying to say replacing the HDD voids the warranty? That wouldn't hold up in a class action, but thats not likely to happen since it only affects a small percentage.

At the same time, my friends older EEE is out of warranty and recently Asus still fixed it at zero cost and even paid shipping, which I hardly believed, but its true. Some just get lucky I guess.

Pretty much any laptop/netbook warranty service I've ever heard of takes weeks. I'm thinking about opening it up again and see if I can see whats wrong or if I dont see anything, try to get the fan model number and see if I can buy another fan online somewhere. Unless someone already has the fan model number?

To be honest, you're better off returning it and exchanging it. If you get it back to look new they will never know it was disassembled. I doubt they disassemble it to check, they probably just run diagnostics.

1333MHz is the fastest it will handle. So anything faster will be a waste, it will just clock to the 1333MHz. And pretty much any 1333MHz DDR3 RAM will do.

haha i say the same thing about europe xD.
anyways,i installed portal 2 and PES2012.Portal 2 seems to running fine @ medium quality @full resolution (netbook's resolution).
PES2012 seems to go quite well but in low setting.
If by saying benchmarking you mean cinebench etc.etc let me know so i can take some benchmarks for you.

p.s i am sooo noob on this undervolt thing. So if i am not wrong by undervolting it i dont lose performance but i save more battery?thats the case?

if i remember well p0 has 1.3500 v and p2 1.250v i think it is different from e-350 (and i think thats weird because the only thing changed is the 0.05ghz if i am correct)

I own a 1215N AND a 1215B. Technically, since I gave the 1215n to my mom, I only own the 1215B though. Stick with me here, because I will be bouncing back and fourth a lot, so pay close attention. I love video games. In a nutshell, the 1215B runs CIRCLES around the 1215N. Seriously, its that much faster, better, more reliable by far. I had a years worth of problems dealing with Asus and trying to get help with the 1215N. The thing is, it wasn't Asus's fault. Nvidia/Intel seriously handicapped the GPU in the 1215N, placing a pci-e-x16 card (Nvidia) in a pci-e-X1 slot (Intel). In short, easy terms, the Ion 2 really REALLY R E A L L Y sucks. I'm not even kidding. The 1215N has a cpu clock of 1.8GHz. The 1215B's clock runs at only 1.6Ghz. Do I care? Not at all. All that means for me is that the loading screens take slightly longer on the 1215B, but when those graphics come up, boy is stuff fast!!! (well really fast for a netbook pc anyhow). the 1215N barely played a 720p video from youtube even though it stated that it could run 1080p. The video on the 1215B is absolutely amazing and flawless, even when output in HDMI full 1080p on my 32' Sony Bravia TV. Here is my final opinion on these two pcs: I don't care WHAT you are planning to use it for, the 1215B wins in every way. If you want a nice reliable portable pc, the 1215B is the clear winner here with the AMD E-450 and the Radeon 6 series GPU. If you want to feel cheated and robbed, then the 1215N is for you, with the Intel Atom and Nvidia ION 2 GPU. By the way, the Optimus DID work on the 1215N, but it was largely unsupported by everyone. Even a year after I got the thing, Nvidia's drivers site refused to autodetect the ION GPU. It is my hope that this article helps people to better decide between these two pcs which one they want to buy. If I ever come back to this site, I will try to answer any questions, if I see any that I know the answer to regarding this topic. :D

Hi guys, just bumping this thread in the hopes that someone can help me.

I bought a second hand 1215b that had been completely wiped removing the recovery partition and the EFI partition.

I've got my OS installed and running nicely but any attempt to recreate the EFI partition and restore EFI functions (Boot Booster and Express Gate) have failed.

Usually (on 1201Ns and 901s etc) to recreate the EFI partition you can just use GParted and set up a small 20mb EFI partition at the head of the drive and hey presto, EFI functions resume.

With the 1215b this doesn't seem to work which leads me to believe that ASUS have some sort of propriety files in the 1215b EFI partition.

So here is what I would like from a fellow 1215b owner.

An image of your EFI partition. It can be Norton Ghost or DD and should only be about 50mb.

If you can help but you're not sure how to make the image please reply and I can guide you through the process (dead simple).

    ****

On a side note - Asus are no help what-so-ever and just ask you to send the whole laptop in for service at your expense. Why they can't just provide a 50mb image is beyond me!

Anyhow - hope someone can help me out!

    *******

    EDIT

    making a ghost image instructions;

    download ghost32.zip ====> https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B3BHPL5gbUMealByR0xqUURSSTQ

unzip and run ghost32.exe as admin

Local > Partition > To image

Select your main hdd and ok

Select the EFI partition (Its about 50mb and type will be EF) and ok

Browse to a folder to save the image (single clicks to open folders not double)

Type a file name and press save.

    Choose fast compression and ok.

Process will take a minute or so.

Upload your newly created .gho file somewhere and send me the link whilst enjoying a karma boost.

Katch dude, I made the file you wanted but I can't figure out where to upload it. This stupid forum won't accept it, even as a zip file. By the way, the size of the EFI partition is 16MB. You let me know where to send the file for free and legit, and I'll do just that when I get a chance.

    You are a S T A R!

Been trying to get this for ages.

For uploading I recommend you try Google Drive (if you have a Google account.) Once uploaded you can click share and set it to shared with anyone who has the link - then send me the link over PM.

If you don't have or for some reason do not wish to use Google Drive you can use Mediafire.

    Legend! It works!

Can't thank you enough - been trying to do this since I picked up this laptop 6 months ago.

As soon as I put your EFI ghost on the drive all my EFI functions and Express Gate options magically appeared.

Now to hack it to boot Ubuntu on the Express Gate button. Fun!

I´ve had the same problem and this image solved part. I'm able to enter express gate but boot booster option does is still missing in bios.
Could you please detail the steps that you have done to restore boot booster?
    Thank you in advance

Hi, I decided to revive this beautiful EeePC by replacing the hard disk with a SSD.

    1. ASUS 1215B with AMD APU E-xxx.
    2. Plugged in an Intel 240GB SSD.
    3. BIOS is factory default.
    4. Used Rufus to burn Windows 8.1 Pro ISO to a USB FAT32 USB thumb drive with "GPT mode for UEFI" partition system.
    5. SSD is 100% unallocated space with GPT partition system, using diskpart to "clean" and "create gpt".
    6. Installer starts up OK and is able to create all 4 partitions.
    7. When the installer tries to copy files over, error states that PC encountered a problem and then a restart.

    Help please?
