vivek so if u take the eee in 300$ and upgrade it in 100-150$ u still won't get 2 the price of the the TR's. so eee wins.
-
I'll buy one as long as it has good battery life, wireless internet and support microsoft office.
-
i think that battery life is really important. i just read the review on the front page about a sony 11" thats getting 10 hours with the standard battery. sure the specs are well.. crap but getting that sort of battery life really makes it something you can travel with.
I think asus is a bit behind the other big notebook players in terms of battery life... time to simply use higher capacity cell Asus. -
Battery life is key. I don't care if it runs at 600mhz, because, frankly, that's more then enough for basic tasks. Simple web surfing, MSN messenger, watching a video, etc. it's all good.
-
Yes. I don't trust their 3 hour claim though. The UMPCs get 4 hours with a 4 cell battery; this will have way less power consumption......
-
I intend to put a solar mod on the back of the laptop... hehehe, hope it works!
-
The only problem I foresee with that is where do you put the power wires from the Solar panels? Would you connect them directly to the motherboard (can you do that?) or to the battery, or what?
-
You would first have to find out the average amount of power this notebook is going to use. It could be something like 10W's. Your not going to fit a 10W solar panel on the back of the notebook. However, I have seen briefcases for around $50 that are in the 10-15W range that plug into the notebook. I don't think anyone is going to fit more than a 5W solar panel on the back of the EEE PC. So if it operates at 10W's average it would take 2hrs of charging in the sun for 1hr of use. Or if it gets 3hrs of battery life by itself, a 5W solar panel would extend that to 4.5hrs.
I'm sure there will be MANY mods for EEE PC. I'd like to put an internal bluetooth dongle. I have one that is tiny, and could be connected to the motherboards USB port, possibly internally. -
I'm feeling up to the challenge to open it up and marvel at the insides(probably one single motherboard with everything soldered on.), or lack there of.
-
Haha, yea, it seems like a really nice thing to mod. Not sure what I would want to do though; the solar panel idea seems pretty cool though, if it works. BT isn't all that useful for me. Maybe open it up and add a 4+GB CF drive or something. Maybe I could hack a card reader into it? Then I could put one mem card in each slot and push storage up to 20 gigs almost.
It would be killer if this had enough power to run Need For Speed High Stakes from 1999. It should, too.... -
does it says anywere whan asus is actualy going 2 relese it 2 the market?
-
I might, if the price is right (for a larger HD) and battery life is long enough.
-
cool! The 7" screen looks to be enough for working but the 10" will be alot nicer and fit the design better too.
-
10" next year, what a bummer.
-
Found some close-up pictures from this link.
http://chinese.engadget.com/2007/06/06/computex-2007-asus-Eee-pc-701-hands-on/
It was also mentioned in the article that "A version for 'English speaking countries' could hit the streets 'as early as August this year' "? -
http://www.hothardware.com/articles/Hands_on_with_the_ASUS_Eee/?page=1
"Not only have we had the chance to actually use the ASUS Eee PC, we can also confirm some important new specifications of the notebook. The Eee PC is running a version of Intel’s 910 mobile chipset, it uses a 900MHz Intel Dothan based Pentium M CPU, it has 512MB of DDR2 memory, full 802.11g wireless capability, and a flash-based hard drive. There will be at least two different models of the Eee PC, with the $199 version using a 4GB flash hard drive and the $299 version using a 8GB drive." -
that would be perfect, if we could get the Menlow 64 bit platform with a 10" screen next year! -
What? 4 USB ports? It has more USB ports then majority of notebooks under 14"
3 hours on a 4 cell is ok, makes some sense, though the lack of a GPU, large screen and powerful CPU should wield more battery life. -
-
damn, I just did the exchange rate conversion from $US and it looks like i might need a new toy.... after all my palm T3 is a little old now
-
Mine as well! Although I did just change its battery.
-
According to the poll, Foleo and VIA is in a heap of troubles
-
too right.
the foleo is too limited.
and the nano-book is just grossly ugly compared to the EEE. -
900Mhz is not bad at all! I think I'll grab the 7" one ASAP when it games out. Then sell it off and then get the 10" version. I think a 4GB HD is big enough. I have two 2.5" 80GB HD's right now, and have plans to get a 160GB 2.5" external soon. 4GB's is just enough to run Xp...
-
It's time to Eeexpand my horizons!
-
The black one is even cooler.
-
will the Asus XG Station work on this?
-
Nope, no express card slot. sorry.
-
it would be totally crippled performance wise anyway by DDR2 400 memory and a Dothan 900MHz chip.
-
I'm really interested, there's a black version of this? Only complaint I have is the big fat ugly black bezel around it, they really should have put a bigger screen. Would love to see the 10" model as well, will it be the exact same specs wise, only the screen is bigger?
What type of flash memory drive will it use? I assume its using a 1.8" hard drive so could we put in our own in this? Can't wait for more information and a release date in the U.S!!! -
http://www.asusreviews.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=44&page=2, the 15th post. You can see the black one there.
-
yea! the 10" looks great. 100$ more for that one is a lot better.
-
Doesn't anyone think its way uglier than the 7" model? I want the 7" model, only thing holding me back is the black bezel, should have made the screen bigger on it.
-
I also find the 701 more atractive, especially the black one. But I like the white and orange colour scheme though.
-
-
come on rahulnirmal, the 10" dosn't look that bad. sure the 7" black looks a lot better but the black lines around the screen is uglier.
-
Hmm, I actually think the 10" looks better (if thats what cori posted pics of)...Doesn't matter though, the 7" is smaller, lighter, and cheaper, so thats what I will be getting.
PenM 900MHz, 512MB memory, 4GB SSD, $200. This laptop => for the win. -
I believe thats the Eee 1001, assuming the naming scheme as the 7" is 701.
-
I can't see the pictures!
Edit: Never mind, can see them now -
Oh yea, and it has more USB ports than all of my computers. That in itself is pretty sad....(3 on my FJ and iMac and my P4 laptop, 2 on my P3 desktop and P3 laptop, 4 on my P4 desktop). Pathetic.
Did anyone else notice that the specs are better than the original Samsung Q1 from a year ago (CelM 900, 512MB, 30GB hdd) except for hard drive space? Even that can be taken up to 36GB (4 8gig flash drives) on the EEE.
Yea, the 1001 looks better, more like a real laptop than a toyIf it gets better specs than the 701 at a $100 price hike, I might get it as my only laptop
and then get a better quad core desktop over Christmas.
-
It is sad that it has more USB ports than most notebooks.
Anyone know if the 701 and 1001 will have different specs? I think they will have the same specs. I just like the 701 a lot better but that stupid freaking thick black border, arggh, they should have made the screen fit the whole frame! Why Asus?
And if only the 10" model could look like the 7", its just plain ugly but just my opinion.
Coming out in August? -
HAH! I have more on both mine and the family notebook (5 ports).
-
I voted I'd have to think about it.
-
At the time being, on paper, it's quite amazing. However, is the price realistic for ASUS? There is too much that's unknown to say thus far, but on paper, it's a fantastic thing. Until release time is due, we'll keep our excitement down and compress the potential disappointment factor
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
You seem impressed Cori =P As well you should be!
-
Well you did make it your sig Cori so you have to be excited about it.
Okay, sorry to be crazy and neurotic here, does anyone else think the 10" model is ugly, the 7" is a lot better looking? Why couldn't they have just made the 10" just a bigger version of the 7"?
And that black fat border around the screen is killing me, just get rid of the speakers and put them on the bottom or something, I'll be using headphones on it all the time basically anyways.
I just wish they could make the screen fit the whole chassis on the 7" and make it come out right now, please! Sigh, nothing's perfect.
I want to buy it to tide me over until I can finally decide on a real laptop to buy, the EEE is perfect for that. -
-
I would get one for my father-in-law. All he wants is email and surfing.
-
The quoted 3 hour battery life is disconcerting though. I hope there is a way to extend that.
