BB version is maxed at 2GB and does not have HDVI.
You can upgrade A-1 to 4GB but may require 64 bit OS, I'm trying to chase down that rumor now.

Oh jeez, well I've been wanting a laptop badly for gaming lately and I jumped the gun and picked up the Best Buy Asus G1S-X1. It is a T7300 version. I got it onsale for $1599 and came to just under $1700 after tax (but i did put it on a BB credit card so I will be getting rewards certificates back). I see that GentechPC.com now has the G1S-A1's on sale with the T7500's for about $1800 with a mailin rebate. How much better performing is the T7500's? Would I notice a difference if I made the whole hassle of returning This X1 and placing an order for the A1? I just dont want to think I made a big mistake for the difference of $100.

I just paid $1709.00 shipped for my g1s-a1 off of excaliberpc.com

also, it came with a 1gb intel turbo memory upgrade, although it may be useless, it was a free upgrade.

edit* optik45, you may not see much performance difference but the price is about the same, and the a1 comes with a bag and mouse.

i just bought a broken G1S-X1 on ebay for $400. it is supposed to just have a broken lcd. I bought it for two reasons, one to try it and get it working and 2, to see if the 8600 would physically fit into my A8JS to help the A8 community possibly extend our laptop's life. Its not only the physical fit its also hacking the system bios... because unless ASUS has changed they store their 3d card bios on the system bios so flashing a new bios or reading a bios from the card (even in dos using nvflash) is impossible.

The only people that i know of that have hacked the system bios, removed the 3d card bios... hacked it to their settings and then forced the modified 3D card bios back into the system bios and booted it up. They are.. *dun dun dun* mac users! They needed to hack or hex edit the systembios, 3dcard, chipset, lcd, bluetooth, touchpad, sound and everything else one at a time to get the different parts working under OSX. A mac user is helping me now extract the 7700 bios from my A8Js and re-apply it. I'm pretty sure the 8600's physically fit, ive seen a few the reverse-mxm slot lines up and the GPU heatsink (while a bit smaller) does look like it locks in with the GPU. Im not sure if the 8600 has its bios saved on the card or not but if by some miracle the card physically fits AND boots up using its bios i will be amazed.

But im mainly just happy to try and get this thing working. I think it might be the best buy variant because the same seller has other best buy related items. at least i'll be able to upgrade the lcd! (ebay has G1S lcds for $200!!) But if i cant get it working their will be a bunch of G1S parts available....

    Hmmm, interesting!!!

But I think this should be on another totally new thread for better follow-up.

Regardless, I think that it will not work because as far as I know nVidia 8xxx series need a Santa Rosa platform in order for them to work. Or so I read somewhere.

Can you let us know if you managed to make it work?

    Cheers!
