Asus G51VX-X2A Blue alien?

kk good. The graphics and engine look just OK, but i guess thats what i get for 20$, idk i am most likely going to get the game just because i need to use up these gift cards. Idk it just doesn't look like a great game, compared to cod 4 online... is it even near that good?

 

Most modern notebooks, including the G51, have a mic built into the chassis. I use my built-in mic when I play and it sounds just fine.

The Source engine is starting to show it's age, but many of the best games out there are still built on it. CS:S had state of the art graphics when it came out back then.

I didn't like the lid when i saw it on newegg but i liked the specs so i ordered it and in person i think it looks a lot better, but in about 5 mins after taking it out of the box there will be fingerprints all over the lid.

and a game of day of defeat sounds good to me.

 

I toiled with the design for some time. I think its cool (actually really grows on me) but not great when you want to use your laptop to show work to clients. That's why I've been hoping a white G60 comes to N america.

Regardless, I just ordered one like 20 sec ago!!! I'll maybe get something else next year more constrained or sleek looking for work.

Actually I've played with a few design ideas to add to the white or black lid. So if it turns out nice Ill post pics.

I'm just worried about heat and I won't get my cooler until a week later which I'm sure I will still be awake at that point. Any temporary solutions to cool it? Was thinking to prop it up to get more airflow underneath.

btw Soviet your avatar changes occasionally. I changed mine, yet its still the same since I joined. It doesn't want to change unless you guys are seeing a "glassy sand button" and I see my old picture of a dune.

 

Hmm, if my P8400 and 3650M can almost max out COD4 with 30FPS+, then I'm pretty sure he'll max it easy. (1280 x 800)

And if my desktop plays at 1920 x 1200 at almost max settings, then there's even more evidence that yours will do it easy.

Edit: The lid design on the G51 (the blue one), really seems to remind me of Crysis for some reason.

Add one more. I ordered the X2A last night, along with a 64GB SSD for the second HDD bay. I plan on ordering a carbon fiber notebook skin and trimming it to fit around the lightbar and logo. Not a fan of the DNA thingies on the back, but the performance of this over the Best Buy version was too much to pass up (plus I don't want Best Buy touching my laptop if it needs service).

 

Let me know how that carbon fiber skin works for ya. I ordered an Invisible shield by Zagg for my G51 and it ended up being the biggest POS ever!

 

K, thats cool that now people are getting the newegg version alot more. Does anyone know how long my shipping/all of the newegg handling will take. I got ups 3 day, because the fedex price was outrageous, for hopefully the same day of drop off.

Edit: Since 6:04 local time, im guessing california, yesterday, my laptop has been in the processing stage... how much longer will it take???

Edit: I was just told by an online rep. that my laptop won't ship out today... the second day of processing... hopefully it will ship tomorrow and then i will get my laptop... idk what is going on.. can someone plz tell me this is ok?

 

Be patient, bsbear. Remember that you're not the only one whos buying a laptop at the last second for the school year. Newegg must be bombarded with orders to fill out.

 

I should be getting mine tomorrow. It's one state above me currently. Once it ships it goes pretty fast. Basically it's making it to the east coast in a day from CA. Which is amazing. Hopefully we can all get a good game going on steam.

 

... idk what happened but for some reason they put my order on "hold"... so basically i lost a day. i talked to the support and i guess they fixed the problem because im back into processing, but tomorrow will be the third day of processing, so idk. Hopefully i will get mine in the next 4 days... it was supposed to come in two days, or shorter. if anyone has any advice, it would be very appreciated.

Mine shipped from California, but my bag shipped from Pennsylvania. My SSD and monitor cable are coming from New Jersey. Unfortunately, they are not counting today as a day, so my three-day shipping means Monday.

 

Crap, i just realized, they are gonna do the same thing to me... that sucks, so i basically got 7 day shipping, this really sucks...

omfg, i just contacted newegg again, the support there i thought was good............. they just told me the laptop i ordered on tuesday is set to arrive next monday and there is nothing i can do... this really sucks

Edit: I really really really wanted to be a new, big supporter of newegg, because they looked so great. But having to wait a week for a new laptop, when it was guaranteed three day shipping, thats just not right. What can i do? Tomorrow is the third day of processing... i thought they could only have two, and then instead of recieving my package on friday, or saturday for that matter, i get it on monday... when i wont be able to use it... this really sucks. i dont understand why they cant make things more speedier.

Lots of us ordering laptops, computer parts, and other goodies for "back to school." This is still much faster than getting a custom built system.

No clue tbh. However after having dealt with the EGG on more than a few occassions re: higher end purchases (like laptops, netbooks etc) I have found that spending the few bucks to have my EGG order rush processed is the difference between a great experience and your experience.

IIRC it was like $2.99 to have my G51VX-X1A order processed, charged and shipped the same day.

The only thing that I'm reading from you right now is impatience. Do you really need your laptop for school during the first two weeks?

 

Maybe he wants to take notes in his laptop, thus having 2 weeks of work in a notebook to transfer over to his laptop would be a pain. Right?

 

I'm taking 15 units this semester, all upper division and engineering classes. I never had a problem copying all my manuscript notes onto digital text. Is bsbear in university?

 

Just wanted to say that what really bugs me about the design of this unit is that silver trim around it. In the Gentech video on uTube it looks beautiful with black or a very dark black/blue trimming. Now all the units have this silver trim which I just want to spray it back to black. Would I void the warranty if I painted the trim?

Thanks! Not gonna post any benchmarks or anything since you guys know all that stuff. Though my idle temps for CPU are around 39 with my Zalman NC2000 cooler. The GPU hovers around 55 (all are C) Is this normal? Just making sure

 

Yeah, private school so basically the first two weeks of school for me are the hardest, they load us with tons of work. Soviet you are basically right I am very impatient right now even though it's not a huge deal. It's just that I need time to install some programs, some games, microsoft office, etc. Idk, I just had this whole thing planned out to the last detail, and then it took me an extra day for processing... Right now I am in the charged stage. And basically it is just going to be time consuming, during a point in my life that I really don't have free time... And that I won't be able to game on it over the weekend. Whatever, if I get it early in the morning on Monday I will be satisfied... I guess. I'm an idiot for not getting the rush processing fee.

 

Mine is sitting 3 hours away in Louisville. Too bad I can't just drive down and get it if they don't deliver tomorrow.

These are considered safe temps.

I'm planning to get a Zalman NC2000 too for my g51. How is it? is it very loud when turned full up?

A Zalman is whisper-quiet.

You can barely hear it over your computer even when the fans are going full blast.

 

Over the TV I can't hear it at all. Even when the TV is off I can barely hear it

I hear ya man. Newegg is trying to me off lol, the sent me my mouse today, but i have to wait untill monday to get my new laptop lol.

 

It's even worse today. It's in the same city as me, but it has to go 10 miles away to get sorted and put on a truck so I can have it on Monday. I guess I'll just have to be productive this weekend instead of setting up the new laptop. Today they will deliver my SSD, monitor cable, and notebook bag, all of which is pretty boring without a laptop.

 

Back in February when I got my g50vt X6 from newegg, it took a while for them to get it to me as well; about a week or so. That's long for newegg, at least. I've dealt with them for 5 years and never had an order take so long to process and ship. Usually when I order things from them, I get them 3 days later at most.

I chalked it up to the fact that it's a piece of expensive hardware, and they probably wanted to make sure they did things right (as there was no shortage of that laptop at the time as far as I know).

All in all though, newegg is a great site, so don't be too quick to hate them because of this.
