I also blame demand. They usually do ship from the closest location, but my laptop had to come cross country, I assume because that's the only place that had any.
-
Yeah, same for me. Probably 20 mins after i made my order of the X2A i checked back on newegg and saw it, out of stock, and that left only the A1 which i really didn't want. So i was lucky. But i hate having to wait in suspense...
-
It's worth it guys. With set FSB I've hit 3.1GHz easily. I set it up to stock GPU clocks. GPU on load never rises above 80C and the CPU has yet to go above 55C thanks to the Zalman being so amazing
-
Have you orthos tested yet? I got mine to 3.1GHz and after orthos tests it hits ~61C, then the fans kick in harder or sth cuz it drops to 59C and never goes back up (even an hour later). I'm tempted to overvolt to allow a bit more OCing, as I -think- that is my problem. -
I've yet to try an orthos test. Unless Crysis Warhead for an hour counts as that
-
Yeah, i am currently using my microsoft sidewinder x8 because that came today, it is super amazing. I have to wait untill monday to get laptop, but whatever. And basically for me, i think ill be fine on stock clocks of everything, but ill use extreme turbo mode and stuff, because thats simple.
Other than that, basically it is unneeded for me because i only want 30+ fps, idc if it goes above that, but if it does, than yay, thats great. Considering everything on high and 1080 screen res... -
warhead never took my CPU above 55, so I think orthos will be above 60 for you. heavily encoding video should also have a similar effect on CPU temp -
Alright thanks. I have a quick question about ntune. DOes it only overclock your GPU to the clocks you set when you tell it to, like in a certain game? I noticed it doesn't do it when I'm just browsing or playing a game. But when I told it to overclock during crysis it did
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Exactly.
It sets your 3D clocks, not your everyday clocks. -
@Fatmanchan I just realized you have the T9600...is that all you're able to OC? I've got an X1A running a P8700 w/ the same 3.1GHz.
-
Wow really? thats pretty high for a 2.53... right? Then i should be able to OC mine to like 3.4... if thats how it works
-
-
Yeah I just noticed that now too... With my x2a or your x1a OC to 3.1 shouldn't we get scores around eleven or twelve k. That's on the normal low resolution, something like 1280 x 720 or somethig...
Edit: what reason would there be for me to OC my 2.8 ghz processor? Would it affect gaming/general computing/word processing? Or would it just be for bragging rights? -
@Element: I haven't gone higher than that yet. I'm pretty sure I could get it higher. I'll try tonight and get back to you on that
Edit: Just gave it a try. got it up to 3.3GHz a little past that BSOD'd me. Trying to run orthos on anything past 3.1GHz results in failure within 10 seconds. Not sure what I need to do to get past 3.1GHz -
-
So maybe overvolting would allow me to get higher clock speeds?
-
That is my thinking but you might want to get a second opinion...I'm not exactly experienced.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Overclocking increases heat. Overvolting increases heat. Overclocking and overvolting makes spicy hot buffalo wings.
-
My current temperatures are well within reason, maxing at 62C after an hour of orthos, I think higher temps would be acceptable. But, I don't think I'll be doing it.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Run Orthos and Furmark in parallel. That's the manliest level of stress testing second only to OCCT power supply test.
-
I'm not ever going to touch furmark, I Can guarantee my GPU would hit over 100C, and I'm not gonna take it that far.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Substitute Furmark with ATITool. ATITool's artifact scanner won't get your GPU as hot as Furmark.
-
I'll take your word on that, dling now. How long should I run ATITool?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
15 to 20 minutes is the norm.
-
Alright, well 5 minutes in it hit 89C, and the fans kicked in and its dropped to 84C and is bouncing up and down. (2-3C)
15 minutes in:

could the G51VX bestbuy one be upgraded to a t9600 -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
All P-series and T-series processors will work, as well as the X9000 and X9100.
-
So guys how far could I OC my t9600 2.8 ghz? And how/would it increase performance?
-
Every system is different and the overclocking capabilities of every laptop is different. -
I'd say 3.1 is about it. Over that and it doesn't last more than 10 seconds in orthos(means you shouldn't use those clocks) Though Tev is right. You could max out at different clocks than me
-
Oh maybe i read someones post wrong, but i thought i saw someone with the x1a say he got it to 3.1, probably was you, and i read it wrong. kk
-
Nope....it was me. I have an X1A @ 3.1GHz w/ a P8700.
-
It's here!!! It's running all that first-boot stuff as I type this.
I did have a bit of drama. Initially, it would not boot. Talked to a tech at Asus, and rest the machine by holding down the power button without battery or AC. Now it lives. I have to say the customer service has been good...quick to get a tech, solved the issue quickly.
As soon as it can reboot I'll add the SSD and throw Windows 7 on it. -
congrats! I hope you don't have to get to work early in the morning...

You know what we need? We need a G50/G51 Steam group.
-
definitely! I'm gonna pick up CSS and HL2 tomorrow.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
One of the G50/G51 leaders in this forum needs to create it. Who wants the job?
-
Well, Tev seems to be a bit busy with school, so it'll probably have to be forge =p

Stop looking at me like that.

We're Asian. We can't stop staring at you.

Don't make me blind you with floss.
-
Wait, is that picture actually you , hahahahahaha! ok not that funny, but kinda. Also, see, that guy said he got his 2.53 up to 3.1... so why can we only get our 2.8 to 3.1?
-
DOA laptop. Very disappointed. But customer service was pleasant to deal with at least.
-
DOA, ? what does that mean... hopefully not that the laptop that is still in the mail for me, turned out bad...
-
It happens. Mine just would not turn on after a couple of reboots. Every product has a few that are bad. I won't hold this against Asus, as they gave me an RMA and said that once they verify it is dead, they'll get a new one out to me. They are sending a shipping label, so I'm not out of pocket for anything.
-
DOA=dead on arrival. and bsbear, I don't know why he couldn't pass 3.1GHz, but in all likelyhood, you'll be able to go higher. Every CPU is different, don't count on his OC to be the norm, as we've only seen one OC'd X2A (I think)
-
Oh, ok thanks. This shipping from ups really sucks... it says it was "out for delivery" since 5:30 this morning, from a city 3 minutes away from my house... so for the past 3 hours, they have been sitting in traffic... ? They did the same thing with my mouse, took 12 hours to drive a 3 minute route?
-
"Out for Delivery" means it is on a truck. The driver will have many stops on their route, so when you get it at your door depends on how many deliveries they have before they get to yours.
-
Ok, so its normal for it to take 12 hours lol?
