Asus G51VX-X2A Blue alien?

they don't automatically ship it out the instant it gets to the office. it gets there , is sorted/processed. and then loaded onto the trucks, and sent out the next morning after I dunno...the drivers actually get to work? it sounds like you're expecting them to be delivering things 24/7.

I'm officially a new X2A owner! I was hoping to grab the X1A but that item went back to deactivated status this morning and seeing how the X2A was back in stock, I binged it for 10% and grabbed it right away! I'm staying at a hotel for the next 1.5 months (school related) so hopefully it gets here without incident. I put in the rush order option so hopefully that expedites things a bit. Can't wait to get this laptop, I've been drooling over the GTX 260m for quite awhile now.

I was just about to post and ask where you went. You seemed so anxious to get it and then....nothing lol. I figured either the laptop showed up DOA and you killed yourself or that it was so godly that you locked yourself in a basement for a week or two. BTW mine gets here day after tomorrow, after reading about how long yours took, I made sure to click that "rush processing" box on Newegg's site haha.

 

Yeah good choice ^^. Also, i started school the actual day that my laptop arrived, after i had left for school, and then i was bombarded with homework. So now, i finished all my homework except for a small essay, which i can manage later in the night, pretty big procrastinator. But yeah, for the looks, it looks amazing, i can't belive anyone could ever bash the blue/black alien design, without those stupid lights in the back (which look equally amazing if your not in school/or buissness/ but during gaming they look absolutley cool) the laptop actually looks not too flashy. The keyboard is a huge YES because on my old acer, the keyboard was so annoying to type on and stuff. Back lighting it very nice. Since school started i havent had that much time to game, once i get into the year, i will have more free time to game, its just that its the first week. I only had time to play about 20 mins of an online FPS called Combat Arms, if anyone plays that game feel free to fill people in more. And it played amazing at full 1080 res. I had all the settings as high as they go and it had to be above 60 fps, becuase there was not a millisecond of lag. I know this game is not very gpu or cpu intensive compared to crysis, but u could compare it to BF2 or games similar to that. So basically performance was very good, this was also with no OC's and without turbo or extreme turbo mode. So basically i love this laptop. It did take me a while though, to get windows up and running, because it took an hour or so to install all of the windows updates and the usual stuff. Today i installed microsoft office without a hitch, and moved over my other files. This is a truly amazing laptop, and the fan actually doesn't get very loud... even at the highest. Haven't used a cooling pad and havent seen a need to yet. Laptop runs very cool compared to the 90 degree celcius temps from some other people. I know that i haven't run any hugely intensive games yet. lol. I could go on al day about this laptop, its just amazing, perfect, in everysingle way. I am so happy i got this laptop. I would really like it if someone could give/tell me a program that just shows my fps in games and stuff, then i can give some benchmarks here. On a side note, i would really like some + rep for my longest post ever, and if i get some maybe ill write a full review with pics . So thanks guys, for all your help.

Yeah haha, probably a few days later, im stuck with tons of school work right now, so basically im bogged down untill the weekend, then ill have some free time, then it should get easier.

 

Wow haven't looked at this thread awhile and damn did it grow. What's your steam accounts guys? I wanna add you all. Also bsbear, I think the only reason we can't get past 3.1 is because of power issues on the cpu. Maybe overvolting would allow us too. THough coolers would be needed for that

 

Yeah, i dont think i would have any needs to OC, well at least past using the asus extreme turbo mode, its just so easy. But basically i only think im stuck on, is, actually two things, how do i access the nvidia driver... and is there a way to shut off the annoying lights on the outside of the case?

 

No way to shut off the outside lights and for video card overclocking check out Tev's guide. Download a package called ntools
comes with a program called ntune that overclocks. Just don't download ntune separately or it BSOD's your computer on install. Going with the package is safest

Anyone know if ATI tool will work to OC the GPU?

Works for my current nVidia card.

Not too many people use ATITool to overclock Nvidia GPU's anymore, especially with the more modern cards. Just use NST or flash it oldschool.

 

Try going to medical school sometime. I'm pulling 12-15 hour days 6 days a wk right now. Tomorrow is my day off and that's when my X2A shows up, perfect timing! Can't wait to mess with that sucker.

 

It's here!! Received it a few minutes ago, I'm getting ready to wipe Vista and install W7 on it.

Initial impressions:

Keyboard: has major flex at the top near the F1-F12 buttons, not impressed with that but it doesn't have any effect on typing so it's ok.

Display: Pretty decent, it's not up to Dell SXPS 16 standards but better than the RX05 display.

Design: The laptop looks very nice overall though the extra plastic around the display looks a bit bulky.

So far everything works, I haven't tested the video card yet. I'm going to wait until I reformat with Windows 7 before I do. Hopefully the Asus utility software that came on the dvd's will work fine in W7.

 

hi guys, I'd like some advice. I'm trying to decide between the Asus G51VX-X2A and the best buy G71GX-RX05. The game I'll be playing is coming out on the 20th and while I do wanna play as soon as possible I'm wondering if it's worth waiting for the g51. What draws me to the g51 is the 2.8 ghz and the higher resolution too. I mean is it worth waiting for it? is having .8 more ghz worth it. is 1920 x 1080 look way more better than 1440 x 900? here are the links, thanks for your time.

Personally I think the G51 is a better machine than the G71. It's up to you to weigh the pros and cons and decide what fits you best.

 

My friend has the G71 and I have the G51vx-X2A. We can play all games at the same settings. Usually high to very high. BUT his resolution is 1440x900 while mine is 1920x1080. If I drop down just a bit to 1650xsomething I blow past him with anti-aliasing settings, filters, distances and such. So the G51 has way more power.
