Asus G60VX Lauching on Oct 22, 09 at Bestbuy

If I can get my X1A to take quads, I will be more than happy with what I paid for it. And I have a feeling it will take quads, I just need to scrounge up the spare cash to test.

 

Just a thought, the remaining G51's are not selling cause people know new ones will be out and windows 7 loaded..maybe I can go haggle and get some money off?

Also if you really don't want to hassle with Vista I would definately wait. I figure even if you picked up a G51 with free Win7 upgrade it will probably take a few weeks if not month or mor to get the upgrade because you will be sooooo far down on the list up against all those others waiting for their upgrades who sub'd paper work months ago.

 

The one you posted about in June RedDragon, was European only. this one will be a US model.

That does not change the fact that it is no longer a European only model. it will now be available in the US.

go to the bestbuy G51 review site, go down about 3-4 pages of review, someone noted a fix in there hope it works well.

U would forego your G71 at 1199 and get a 999 G60 with lower resolution?

 

There could be a new gateway releaseing i get 2 bars and im 3 ft from my wireless router i go in my bed room i get not signal ill look at the "fix" ill probly end up keeping the laptop i just want my options open incase if something good comes up for the money. the wireless is diffrent from the G71 and the G51.

 

Well damn the luck. Went to get the G51 today an all of the BB stores close by are sold out with a 10 day lead time if I want to order. Guess I will have to wait till next week now. Oh well I guess that made my decision for me.

Wow G51 really is done. It shows store pick up not available, gotta walk into store and see if there is one. I wonder if the haggling would really be working now, but unless they lower it by at least a 100 bucks its not worth the hassel.

PS: My Alienware orion laptop backpack and Microsoft Sidewinder gaming mouse just got here, only problem now is I'm gaming laptop-less decisions decisions decisions...

 

Yep that's what I meant. No sense on ordering a G51 when I can pick up the new G60 before the 51 would even come in. Still pissed about waiting another week.

 

well if any of you guys are in So Cal, I'm about to go return my G51 since my G50 arrived today and I think I'm gonna take my chances with the G50.
BTW, the G51 is on clearance at BB for $950, so if you're trying to bargain for $100 off... half the work is done for you!

 

Just got back from Bestbuy, they are putting all the new Windows 7 loaded laptop out for demo and EVERY laptop with Windows 7 loaded will be available for pre-sale or ordered on 18th the Sunday but none will leave the store until THursday the 22nd. That include the G60VX which I was able to play with and see. I took a few picture with my cell for you guys to see.

1) G60vx size is identical to G51
2) G60VX is LED screen and has backlit keybaord just like G51
3) G60VX back design is dark blue near black and does NOT have two side blinking lights like G51 did. Gives it a business like subtle look
4) the 16 inches screen vs G51's 15.6 was not apparent at all.
5) On the sticker it said EAX surround .. probably just a software.

I compared G51 and G60 side by side, chasis and location of ports and everything are totally 100% identical. Same exact chasis, layout. Only diff is the slightly faster CPU, Windows 7 and Lid design. It's hard to say whether G60 or G51 looks better as both are totally different. G51's white and flashy with blinking lights and G60 is very dark and subtle, kinda looks mean while G51 has the rice rocket feeling. I have a mixed feeling about the design and still contemplating. I"ll let you be your own judge.

was this at your best buy? are the cpu's the same? senece its a little bigger lcd is the res the same? is the ram DDR2 or DDR3? had drive space?

 

he said the CPU was faster in the post you quoted..and yes, the resolution is the same. this has already been stated in this thread. the HDD space is also the same. not sure about DDR2/DDR3 but the difference there is negligible

 

1) This was at Pasadena Bestbuy. By the way, they still have 4 G51 in stock. nobody touching them, price is still 999 but I didnt even try to haggle.

2) LED is still 1366 x 768

3) Didnt get to see detail of computer as they were loading the BB default software on it. From research several site and even Asus official web site. ram is DDR 2 not DDR 3. DDR 2 at 800mhz.

4) HD space is 320gb 7200rpm HD

Essentially a G51 with slightly bigger screen, windows 7 loaded and different color lid and Same 999.99.

 

nothing was official this proves it since he actually saw it in person.

 

the mobo must be diffrent if they downgraded the ram from DDR3 weird. wonder if it has diffrent cooling.

 

the G51 was DDR2, not DDR3. also, yes it WAS confirmed, there was a bestbuy listing showing it as having 1366x768 res, and a single 320GB HDD.

 

I thought the G51 was DDR3 i see now. ads are not all ways correct.

 

actually, a printed advertisement is generally correct- otherwise they can be you know, sued for fraudulent advertising of the product. but yea..

So yea..with price of 999, I would not be surprised if its DDR 2. If they are taking pre order on 18th, they must have gotten the OK from somewhere, most likely Microsoft...does this mean Alienware M15x will start being able to be configured with Windows 7 starting sunday? hm.......decisions decisions decisions.......price diff between both machin would be 800 bucks with ALienware having Quad i7, DDR 3, 1600 x 900 screen as the most notable difference but Asus is the best bang for the buck. ALso as a 2ndary machine Alienware is a bit overkill....

PS: G60 cpu is P7450 at 2.16 ghz, slightly up from G51's P7350 of 2.0 ghz. Both have the same architecture and 3MB L2 Cache.

Ditto..after reviewing Alienware M15x, it does NOT have HDMI, only display port, thats -1 for me.....at 999 can't be beat. Just received my microsoft sidewinder mouse + Alienware laptop bag, just waiting for G60

Wondering if Bestbuy still gona sell G51s, i mean it so much alike, i would probably just move on the G60s and let the stock run out on the G51s, but idk if looks are enough to have 2 very similar laptops.

Yep the rep told my wife they couldn't get the G51 anymore unless they got it from another store, that's why they told her a 10 day wait. So yeah I am going for the G60. I never really liked the white lid of the G51 anyway. I did like the side lights though. Oh well can't win them all.

 

Nah, side light was never my favorite, i almost cracked it by holding on to it. I guess the subtle mean look of G60 is nice as well. Guess I"ll go pre order on sunday just in case they run out..tho kinda doubtful at this kind of economy....

 

You never know... the G71 sold really fast when they were $1149, so did the G51 when they lowered from $1050 to $999, btw the G60 looks a lot like my old G71, really nice for working kinda look.

How's the review and reputation of G60 there?

 

I really don't know anybody who has it. I've had a look through Youtube and I can't see any unboxing's of it, or anything of that nature. All I know that it is on a number of websites up for sale.

The processor is different over here though, we get a Q9000.

 

Nah, they just put up a little 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper next to the laptop that says........"Correction, please note there was a misprint in the XX/XX/XX ad that incorrectly specified 4GB DDR3 RAM, instead of the correct 4 GB DDR2 RAM".

You might be able to return the laptop under those circumstances without a restocking fee but you would never be able to sue for any damages etc., as you were not "harmed" as a result of the misprint nor could you prove Best Buy did it with the intention to deceive you.

Now don't mention an allergen like Milk in an ingredients list and someone gets ill or dies yeah get the lawyer, DDR3 vs DDR2 um not....if I was a juror on that case I would

 

YOu guys are too funny.. DDR 3 sure sounds a lot better, futuristic and fiery lightening speed, but I have looked at numerous studies with evidences that while increased, speed is negligeable. I'll head to bestbuy to pre order tomorrow after work.

a 999 version and a 1199 version of G60..upgrade is P8700 2.53 ghz cpu 2 x 320gb HD and 9 cell battery.......wonder if its worth it from 999...
