it does..but might be too much bulk as a carry around laptop...weight is heavier , not the bigget con but overall bulk is noticeably more than G60..im debating to get the 999 or 1199 g60....for 200 more u get faster cpu and 9 cell battery adn double HD, seems like a good deal but not sure if i should go over budget by 200 again :(

i gave up on my gateway p7805u coz it was really a pain to lug around coz of it's massive size so i really wouldnt wanna pick up that g72. people kept asking if it was a TV. well, to each his own i guess. so much asus stuff comin out its really really making everything so complicated... what to getttt!!!!?!?!? arrrrghhhh!!!

I share your pain. I lugged a gateway FX around and that thing was.......wow...... G72 doesnt weight all that much more than G51 but overall dimension was 1/2 in thicker, 2 inches wider and over 1 inches deeper...so the whole package just makes for extra bulk thats why im concentrating on G60 which would my limit. Just wondering about 1199 or 999 one aye

You're right, I really like all the options they're offering but it makes my decision so much harder! I think I might go with this one from newegg though, I really like the higher resolution screen. I wish BB would offer something with a better screen, but it's not even an option there.

yeah lol the well the weight wasnt really the problem, it was the size. anyway to make things more confusing, there's also G51Vx-X3A from newegg at $1279. it's the same as the x1a i think, havent noticed any difference yet cept that its for preorder.

I did think about that one but with few concerns

    1) absolutely NO RETURN for newegg, replacement only

    2) 1920 x 1080 is gorgeous but gtx 260m is like desktop version of 9800GT card with 112 stream processor which is NOT all that powerful if u think about it in term of games today. 8800 and 9800GT was 2 years old card and to play game with gtx 260m with 112 gpu at native 1920 x 1080 might be a little taxing on the ssytem. Whereas relative low but ok 1366 x 768 resolution with 260m will run any game at highest detail for a year or two at least...

    Thoughts?

PS: Bestbuy one offer free next day shipping, arrive at doorstep by 22nd.

This is probably the death of G51VX-RX05, already going to outlet (same that happen with the G71), probably they will just replace it with the G60.

I think the only difference is the Windows 7, other than that it is the exact same lappy. And wow I really like the G72 look on that best buy model, I think it offers the best bang for buck too.

But I am getting the G51J, already made up my mind! And yeah, the size is overkill. I tried the standard G71 and while nice, I couldn't fit it on any backpak I had, and it was considerably bigger than the G51... I will stick to the 15.6 inchers heh.

I think the 1199 G60 at Best Buy is worth the extra $200. Faster processor, a 2nd 320gb 7200rpm drive and a 9 cell battery probably cost more than the extra 200 bucks. I just want to know if these will be available to order on Thursday. It says coming soon but you can't preorder it yet like the others. I know that model is online only and won't be in stores but its possible it may not arrive for a couple of weeks.

The newegg one seems good deal, but pretty close to G51J only $120, but the P8700 pretty good CPU, so it should be fine either way.

Yeah that's my thinking too. It's really a matter of preference though. I guess while games in a couple years may run better on a lower resolution screen in terms of higher detail settings and such, you're never going to get the detail you could get with the better screen.

im leaning towards the x3a now for screen res, bluetooth and better webcam. and i do believe it has an accidental damage warranty right?

but the components added to the $1200 bb g60 is making it reeeeaaally hard to decide

It does have a year of accidental damage, which is nice. I can't blame you for having a hard time deciding though. I would be too, but I really just don't think I'd need that extra hard drive space for anything.

:D For that much it better be a 1080p OLED screen and it better have Triple Sli GTX 280m's along with two 500gb SSD's.

Well it seems the same keyboard as the G51, the lights can be turn off, with func+F3/F4 you can turn it up n down, just wondering if there is no lights at all or just turn off.

So now it comes down to:

    G72Gx-RBBX09
    Intel Core 2 Quad mobile Q9000 @2Ghz
    6GB DDR2
    17.3 @ 1600 x 900
    Geforce GTX 260M
    640GB 7200RPM
    $1299.99

    vs

    G51j-A1
    Intel Core i7 @ 1.6Ghz
    4GB DDR3
    15.6 @ 1920 x 1080
    Geforce GTX 260M
    320GB 7200RPM
    1405.53

I'm aware of the warranty difference, but it's not a big issue, so which one of these would a sane person choose?
Its like with one you get a better CPU (i7) and better screen resolution, but with the other you get more HDD space and more RAM.

The G51J-A1 has dual 320GB HDD. 6GB of RAM is overkill if you ask me. It all depends on what you plan on doing with the laptop.

imo, why get a 17"+ laptop? at that point, might as well get a desktop

JUST BACK FROM PRE ORDERING G60..ALL PAID FOR WITH RECEIPT, PICK UP THURSDAY MORNING.

    1) p7450 2.13 penryn 45nm
    2) Ram verified via cpuz as pc 6400 800mh DDR 2 ram
    3) Video card shows to be 65nm, but as far as I know all GTX M series are 55nm series for GPUZ could need an updated database.
    4) Wireless is Intel 5100 AGN card

    Windows 7 experience index
    CPU 5.7
    Ram 5.8
Video and gaming graphic both 6.8
    HDD 5.9

All of the above top score is 7 i think.

I spend tons of tim with it so just short of writing a review, i'm entertaining any questions.

just a side now...does anyone know how good the new ATI 4830 mobile card is? because I saw this baby and fall in law. absolutely beautiful metal body, 8 hrs battery per HP rep on site, quad core 1920 x 1080. Same fit finish feel as a macbook pro but kills any MBP out there with windows 7 and quad core CPU. THank god I'm not allowed to purchase it till Thu, else I might have taken it home.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9556394&type=product&id=1218123849552

PS: HP rep told me this one has IR night vision camera....I can't really think why you would need one unless you like to do freaky web cam w/your girlfriend or planning on shooting a home made ghost movie like Paranormal Activity :D

Seems they both have 640GB HDD, but the G72Gx has 3 RAM slots compared to the G51j's 2 RAM slots so it would be a hell of a lot cheaper. The only reason I'm even considering the G72Gx is because I had a G50Vt which was basically the same chassis as the G51 series and I'd rather try something new, specially since a 17 inch laptop would come in handy in photoshop and 3d modeling work. But I feel like the newer Intel system would be more futureproof.
