Any news on this, did the battery arrive?

I've heard that you need 5 DVDs to create the backup recovery discs. For these 5 DVDs, does it take only single layer DVD+R's, or does it take double layer?

Guys, is it worth to pay additional 165$ for N53JF (i5 460m + gt 425m) over N53JN (i3 370m [@2,55ghz] + gt 335m) ?
I guess that performance increase won't be huge, notebook will run warmer and shorter on battery. Is that right ?
Can you guys give me advice ? -
tj, I'd go for the JF, to be honest. The Core i3 370M and the i5 460M appear to have the same max power draw at 35W TDP, they run at the same 2.4Ghz baseline but the i5 can turbo boost up to 2.8Ghz under load. The GeForce 425M is suggested to be on par with the 335M performance-wise, maybe just a tad faster, but supports DirectX 11 and Shader Model 5, a good perk if you're into videogames. As for what the GPUs draw from the battery, I wouldn't worry too much unless you want to play games or other GPU intensive applications while not connected to the mains, which would hardly last long with any configuration, otherwise the laptop will run on the Intel graphics solution integrated in the CPU, same one in the i3 and i5. I can't give more than an amateur opinion, but I don't expect that the JF will be considerably more taxing on the battery than the JN in real world conditions, if indeed at all noticeable.

Yet it's still 165$ ;/ But 425m - newer graphics should gain more performance with future driver updates. Damn it's so hard to choose.
If there was only 50$ difference, then I wouldn't even consider JN. But for 165$ I can get fast 60GB SSD... -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I would wait, the notebooks with sandy bridge have started to appear. and they will be available pretty soon.
The performance gain would be more noticeable -
Well I don't want 4core cpu - too expensive, and too hot. I need cool and quiet notebook. My dell xps m1530 wasn't loudest notebook I've ever used but it drove me crazy sometimes.
Next thing is - how much will I need to wait ? Asus hasn't annouced N53 with sandy bridge yet, first will be i7 and I need to buy laptop before February. Last and I think most important, notebooks with sandy bridge will cost 100-150$ more, just because it's "NEW" ;/ -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
dunno about the price, but if you do wait, you can either get the new Sandy bridge or the older models, since the latter will be more affordable.
The release date is jan 5th at the CES. The model that leaked was the N73 with a quad processor.
I vouch for dual cores, but the thing is that since the quads on SB have a higher base clock (2ghz instead of the 1.6hz) then we are going to see a performance improvement much more noticeable. the heat is a wait and see thing. -

Ordered a N53JF-SZ148V today and it will be a welcomed upgrade from my asus w3j that have served me well for 4,5 years.

Anyone have the Asus n53? How's the sound?
When you turn it up can you hear the bass lines of a song? I'd like to know how good it is. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
you could have asked this at the owners lounge.
but it appears to be pretty good -
I have an ASUS N53
The sound is decent, it suits it's purpose. Not really mind blowing...
With an i7 processor and 6 cell battery, N53 battery life is HORRIBLE.
90mins, maximum. Playing games or anything and you can expect a battery life of 50-60mins. -
-
That was on normal entertainment mode.
Got it on battery saving mode now, screen brightness as low as it will go, got 57% power and it says it will last 55mins. I am just browsing the net.
i.e. this computer is as portable as a dead fish. -
And I thought mine wasn't portable... -
Anyone know a place that I can buy the FHD (XE1) version from in the UK?
The link someone posted earlier from ebuyer goes to the one with the 1366 x 768 screen. -
Thanks! -
On the other hand, someone seems to have had a good experience with one of these batteries, so it may be hit or miss. If I manage to get this one replaced and the new one proves to work well, it would be a recommended purchase. I believe that it should give some 5-6 hours of mobility on Power Saver if it works properly, up from the 3-4 the standard 6-cell gives me.
As for your question on screen angles, it does block it a little bit from pushing it all the way back on my N43, but it's quite negligible, screen still goes almost all the way. Overall, provided you get a well working battery, form factor is perfectly fine in my opinion.
Asus N53! Thing looks sick!
