Well, im interested in buying this laptop, so im curious what you mean by "the screen was grainy" and if you have heard of this happening with other laptops? There have been problems with the sound card that people are having, but that could be software not hardware. Im not worried about the clickpad or bloatware (im removing the bloatware in customization). Hopefully the "grainy screen" was just a isolated incident.
-
-
Yes, that is definetly an isolated issue. or maybe he has got windows icons and text enlarged. mine was perfectly crisp with great colors in full hd.
-
I have a pixel on mine that shows blue on black background and black on blue background.

If you buy a mac now for example...1000 euros, do you really think that someone buy your mac two years from now for 700 euros? With two years old technology and no warranthy? I don't think so but if can sell it for that price good for you -
-
My screen was the factory default 1080p matte screen. It has a green hue so whites aren't displayed correctly and as i said it is extremely grainy. The thing is for an investment of about C$1548 i was extremely paranoid when i noticed all these small issues. Like i said there are so many things to take into consideration. If you can just go to your local electronics shop and spend atleast 15mins test driving one on display. Sometimes the excitement of the spec sheet gets the better of us and we make illogical decisions. For me i value build quality more than anything. And for a brand new laptop with all those little glitches i was extremely disappointed and there is now way i'm gonna throw my hard earned money into repairs and stuff down the road. Most likely 3 yrs from now the total cost of the laptop would be the same as an entry level 15" macbook pro after you factor in the cost of repairs and unforseen circumstances. Plus the resale value would be less than 50%. For those of you that are scared, what i advice is when you get a macbook pro also get insurace for it from your local insurance company or bank, that way if it is stolen or broken you get it replaced without any hassles. Or your better off investing in a desktop. Your choice.
Have a nice day all.
P.S i'm not an apple fanboy of any sorts just an informed and experienced neutral observer who enjoys tech that works and lasts. -
Quite a lot of people do not buy a mac because they are 400$ more for the same spec sheet.
A lot of people actually want a PC.
A mac without insurance costs more ot repair than a PC. a friend spilled beer on his mac, had to send it to the center to get it repaired, the total cost was 300 euros.
My sister did the same with her asus, I replaced the part myself the total cost was under 100 euros.
I havent tried this laptop but overall asus build quality is qutie good and lasts nicely my last asus lasted 4 years and the screen broke because I had to put it in a checked in luggage. -
Anybody having issues with the subwoofer? Mine just makes a clicking sound when connected.. please help!

Spiderman, sounds like you got a lemon. The screen on my N56 is as good as I've seen on any PC and nearly the rival of the matte screen on my wife's macbook ultimate - which cost us literally twice as much.
Also, I bet I won't have to rma the power adapter 3 times in 15 months on the asus... You know apple just settled a huge class action for its ac adapters right? If you own one, you should have gotten the class notice.
Also, took 3 minutes to put an SSD in my asus. I'd put one in the wife's macbook except...the bottom doesn't come off. Lots of good reasons to prefer this notebook to any current gen apple imo.

Just picked up an N56VZ, and while it's good it also has its downsides.
Positive:
Good sound (still the old N55SF version sounded better...)
Good bright screen with good viewing angles
Low noise
Good keyboard
Nice design
Negative:
Typical LG AG coating making screen look "dirty/dusty", just like on my dell U2711. Also some backlight bleed at the top.
Speakers making clicking sounds when browsing folders etc.
Trackpad is horrible, even worse than Samsung chronos trackpads.... and that IS bad.
When GT650M is in use the turbo boost of the CPU is disabled/very limited. Basically you get an 2.3GHz CPU only when gaming, in my book this is a major design flaw. -
-
Does anyone have pictures with the matte screen vs glossy screen?
-
The sound comes some seconds after the default windows sound. I think there is a whole thread about this issue somewhere on this forum....... let's see.....
Ah yeah, here is the thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/670037-asus-n76vz.html -
Also, the fan on mine makes an very annoying rattling sound when spinning at lowest speed.
I think asus better get this one back with a sticker saying "Sorry, you didn't do your schoolwork correct this time, better luck next time!". -
Won't even run mine warm before sending it back if it arrives with that kind of problem..

I'm about to RMA my Asus N56vz, I believe I have a defective touchpad.
The cursor is erratic, it just jumps from spot to spot, clicking and double clicking randomly; merely laying a finger on it will produce these effects. It is near impossible to use it for anything. I first noticed this problem when trying to select a language for Windows 7 installation (yes, right from the get-go). Updating to the latest ELAN drivers, playing with the fn+f9 hotkey, and multiple restarts only temporarily solved the issue.
This among other problems are encouraging me to exchange or even return my Asus N56vz for another laptop . Other problems include a sticky f9 key, farting subwoofer, repeating 5-second video hitches during Diablo III, too-tight USB ports, and a misaligned touchpad (left-justified, slight gap on right side).
If anyone else had a defective touchpad but managed to fix it let me know, because that's essentially the only issue I cannot live with. -

I believe the turbo is complety disable when GT650M is in use. The same thing happens with clevo w150er/w110er. I remember they was trying to enable cpu turbo boost while gt650m is in use. I read this things one month ago +/- in clevo thread. -

I'm not sure if I understand it correctly...
I'm going to buy N65VZ (still waiting for FullHD version with Core i7 in my country) but I can change my mind and direct my thoughts to Lenovo Y580 -
If you only use the intel HD4000 GPU you get full CPU turbo boost up to 3.3GHz.
If you use the GT650M GPU you get no turbo boost meaning max CPU speed is 2.3GHz. -
-
If it's the same as with the clevo models it's programmed into the bios code to reduce max heat/power consumption. Unlikely to be "fixed" since it's ment to be like this by the laptop manufacturer (to avoid overheating or having to design an more expensive cooling system).
-
Oh...now I understand. That's really annoying
At least now I know how they manage to build so thin notebooks...
It's a shame that they didn't make this so CPU clock will go down when needed and not all the time when gaming.
And this apply both for i7 and i5, doesn't it?
I wonder if it also goes for Lenovo and its Y580 model with GTX660M. -

Hello, I just signed up to tell you guys my experience with my ASUS N56VZ-S4035V
So I have had no problems with this computer at all! It's my first laptop, I have had some self made desktops before though. I have heard some talking about the trackpad, but i think its amazing.
The only cons i can think of is:
Tight USB plugs
At times there is a high pitch sound from the AC adapter (That there is on nearly every ac adapter)
Running at 55*C which is high compared to my 20-30*C Desktops -
you may try to use something that is probably called in English "epoxy resin" and flood coil with it. Sometimes it helps...but of course there could be problem with warranty.

I just got my n56vz today. It's a good looking computer and it's thin. The touchpad is God awful and really annoying to use. It's also not centered so there's a little space between the left side of the touchpad and chassis. There's a little flex in the keyboard but not a deal breaker by any means. All in all its a decent value for the money

I got my N56VZ today.
Specs:
15.6" Full HD
3610QM
650M 2GBDDR3
750GB HDD.
First Impressions.
+ Screen quality is amazing for my eye. Black is black and white is white.
I found the best quality of colors when brightness was 2 notches below maximum. At maxed out, the black turnes a bit grey.
My desktop PC has HP ZR24W IPS panels which i used for comparing N56VZ screen. Putting them side by side. i couldnt tell much difference on color quality. I couldnt notice any color bleed or screen door effect. Screen just looks great when its 2 notches below max brightness. I didnt do any color calibration.
+ powerful but thin and light.
+ Sound is better than i expected. Really good for notebook.
+ cooling fan stays suprisingly quiet under heavy load on benchmark tests.
- Power adaptor is bit too large and it makes whiny noise when notebook goes in to sleep mode. But its quiet under full load. (perhaps i had just bad luck with it)
- Too much crappy software preistalled. Takes a long time to unistall them all.
+- Battery life isnt great, but good enough for notebook that size and power.
Heres couple of benchmark tests.
Default GPU (835)950/900 P2387 GPU 2176.
GPU maxed out by AB, DDR3 is not clocking any further. 1085/1070mhz gave me crash. However 1085/1060mhz was completely stable while playing D3.
D3 ran completely smooth (30-60fps) on fullHD and medium-high settings. No AA.
Hopefully this post helps someone on their decision making.
I felt that touchpad needs some getting used to. But its good touchpad to be honest. However, it can be annoying to type, when your palms touch the pad while typing. -
CPU occasionaly still jumps to 3100mhz, but mostly stays lower.
Looks like notebook prevents both (GPU and CPU) going to full load at the same time.
It shouldnt affect gaming, but it surely affects if you are doing heavy workloads with CPU/GPU together at same time. -
Hi everyone,
I ordered the ASUS N56VZ-S4044 recently. I preferred a version with a 500 or 750 Gb7200 rpm storage instead of in this case the 1T 5400 rpm. I'm kinda of noob with pcs so can anyone tell me if there is a big difference between these two?
I read in this topic about putting a ssd in instead. Think ill try that if its not to complicated and really makes such a big difference. -

Another fresh owner here with another set of questions.
First up, a quick summary:
PROS
Great screen
Great sound
VERY silent
Very good keyboard
CONS
Awful touchpad
Occasional farting sound from subwoofer
Now for my questions:
1) Is the touchpad supposed to make a sound? I know that when I press down with force, it makes a click. However, mine makes a faint clacking sound even when I apply minimal strength. Is this normal or should I exchange the laptop right away in the hopes of getting a silent one?
2) Heat. I need some insight into how cool the unit should stay under load. Its cool when surfing, but I don't know how to judge the heat when Im playing some game. I've seen people saying theirs stays cool when playing Skyrim on high. I played Skyrim on high and it got moderately hot just by playing the intro sequence. The fan stayed silent and I can't imagine exactly how hot it needs to get for the fan to kick in full time. How cool is cool? What should I expect? If you cant give proper numbers, then estimate a difference between idle and load.
3) Wireless. Is anyone else having problems with WLAN? My usual DL speed is 5MB/s, but for some reason, youtube videos wouldnt load when using wifi. Its not a modem thing, I got the 5MB on my phone in the very same room. What should I be looking at? -
My touchpad makes a clicking sound also when you press down the center. It is also really annoying because it's very difficult to use the touch pad with one hand moving the cursor while one hand sits on the left click. Super annoying but not a deal breaker.
-
Oh and I swapped the 5400 rpm drive with a 512 M4. Lowest WEI is the graphics at 6.7 with the nVidia 296 driver. That's the one on Asus website.
-
I downloaded latest nvidia beta drivers, but cant install. It says, that suitable GPU wasnt found, even if i force it to 650M.

Ok, now the laptop is acting all weird, when playing or watching something on youtube, occasionally everything stops for half a second, followed by a sound that can only be described as "robotic" and then everything is fine again.
Return it is. Sad, very-very sad. -
Hey what is wrong with the trackpad on the Asus N56VZ ? I`m interested in that model so your information could help me decide. Thank you for your answer.
-
anyone else having problems with wireless? weak signal and losing connection consistently.
-
I have asked once but I got no reply so I'm wondering is someone was able to upgrade this laptop's RAM to 16GB. I'm unable to boot it with 16GB (8+8) and it only boots up with 12GB (8+4).

Try and troubleshoot the issue by finding out if you still have the same issues with the power plugged in. -
I just read the german review of the N56VZ and heard about 2 issues, where I would like to get another opinion from here:
1. Temperatur under load wasn't that good. It reached about 47°C in the upper part and about 36°C on the palm rest. That's more or less because of the silent fan which is pretty silent when the NB is under load. So, how warm does it feel for you when you play games with the keyboard and using the palm rest?
2. The review also mentioned a problem with the power adapter, where there will be a high frequency beep when the display turns off and the storage battery is fully charged. Can somone confirm this? -
Hodor.
2. Yes. I already sayd it in previous page. The sound is exactly like some graphics card coil whine. Identical. Its not too loud but can be annoying.
1. Temperatures are fine on mine. No issues. -
