I have no idea, try to start over.
just delete all partitions, click refresh, say "new", it'll create one 100mb partition and one 932something+ GB partition
-
ah ok. the links you posted said there should be 3 partitions. you had 2 and your install worked? ill try again. thanks!

Is there any to make the Msata ssd first boot priority. I can only boot from it after the main terabyte hdd brings up the windows boot manger.
In my bios only the main terabyte is listed as the boot drive, -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
While in the installation screen, press SHIFT + F10 to bring up command prompt, then type diskpart [Enter] to go into partition utility and run the commands below.
1. lis dis [Enter]
You will see the HDD as disk 0, then proceed.
2. sel dis 0 [Enter]
3. clean
This will purge all of the partitions.
4. cre par pri [Enter]
5. exit [enter]
Then proceed with Windows 7 installation. -
in bios, boot tab, Hard Drive BBQ priorities option
i got my msata drive today, cloned my main HDD with my windows 7 install, it cloned the whole drive including both partitions (100mb, and the main). went into bios, changed boot priority to msata, booted into windows and formatted the 1tb drive. msata is now the main drive and 1tb is for storage -
The Hard drive Bbq priorities option is not showing in my bios only cd/ dvdrive priorities But i can see the msata in the sata configuration as serial ata port 2
-
Are you guys installing all of the drivers on the asus support site when doing a clean install of windows 8.1 with an SSD? What boot times are you guys getting with an SSD, mine is a bit slower than I expected.
-
Hi i installed windows 7 but i am missing a few drivers. I have searched online for hours but couldn't find anything.
The missing ones are:
Universal serial bus controller
Ethernet controller
PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller
If you have these drivers for windows 7 x64 please share.
Thank you -
i posted the link before, here it is again
Asus Q550LF Drivers Download for Windows 7, 8, XP, Vista
if you spent hours looking for that, should have just gone back one/two pages
the ONLY thing i cannot get to install is the PCI data acquisition drivers (also shows a couple unknowns in device managers) which are supposed to be "Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework PCH Participant Driver Drivers Download"
i have spent hours and hours on end trying to install those, reading tons of websites, all saying to use the "right drivers" which i have, and no matter what i've done the PCI data and two unknowns related to it refuse to install the drivers
but the laptop runs just fine without that -
Hi Lukasb1
Thanks for your earlier post..I read this entire thread and found your earlier post and I got everything to work on windows 7
"bios, security tab, secure boot menu, disable boot control
boot tab, launch csm enable, disable launce pxe oprom
boot tab, set DVD rom as boot option 1
advanced tab, usb config, enable legacy, disable XHCI otherwise USB ports won't work"
And for the PCI data acquisition... I installed the "Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Drive Win81 64 VER7102103 from Asus Q550LF download page and it's working fine.
So pretty much everything is working even touch.
The only thing is since I am dual booting and I cloned the windows 8 to the other SSD drive, but it's missing the recovery partition...I also messed with Easeus repartition which might have corrupted one of the partition(s)?...
Long story short every time I hit F9 (i did it to see if I had a recovery partition or not) it messes up the boot menu options (cause an error 0xc00something then I would have to use a win 8 boot disk or the recovery usb which I created earlier to fix the boot menu in order to load them again.
automatic repair doesn't fix the boot menu
I use these commands in the command prompt
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd
bootrec /scanos
And from now on I will try to avoid hitting the F9 key during startup otherwise I would have to do repair again..?
Anyone try to request recovery discs from Asus support yet? I'm going to send them an email and see.. -
cool. i'll try the 8.1 pci drivers in a few days when i get home
sorry, i dont know how to fix win 8 boot issues. -
the win8.1 pci data drivers totally worked for my windows 7 x64
thanks! i'll update my other post and include that -

The two OS are far more alike than say vista and XP when it comes to driver structure, glad it's working for you.
-
Still don't get why you are going back to windows 7? 8.1 is just fine, you are losing performance and battery life going back to 7.

Win8 has better power management, but Win7 overall still feels faster/slick to use than Win8, and it's prettier.
-
i prefer 7 far better
-
This remanufactured laptop is $589 on ebay. They must have made a lot of them to be still on the market.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yup, noticed it on slickdeals too, not bad. -
After using this specific model, what do the fine folks here feel about the keyboard/touchpad for moderate-high amount of time spent typing?
-
... no, its still for sale at best buy. It has not been replaced yet. Ebay re manufactured = returned merchandise.

Good to know it's still a "new" laptop. From the reviews it looks like people are still buying it at full factory list.
-
Yea I couldn't verify from my phone but the bsi7t21 loadout was the second release from long ago that included 2 things. Windows 8 was updated to 8.1, and the wifi card was upgraded to a dual band.

Just ordered this laptop and will be using it as my primary business machine at my office. Can anyone recommend a port replicator that works well with this laptop?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Any USB 3.0 docking station will work.
Search results. -
I have the same problem with the keyboard. Some keys just stop working for a few minutes. Sometimes rebooting helps, sometimes it doesn't. I find that if I shut down then HOLD the power button until the charge light flashes once, then power back up, it works ok. I guess this is a 'hard reset' on this machine.
-
You might try and make sure the firmware on the SSD is also up to date.
-
To boot from USB or CD, power the unit on, then before the ASUS logo comes up, just press Esc once.
-
Using the mSATA slot works fine for a boot drive or a cache drive (depending on the drive you pick). It's a HALF-SIZE slot, so make sure you buy the right size (search Amazon for "half size mSATA"). I bought a 128gb drive, transferred my OS to it and it works great, boots Win 8.1 in under 10 seconds. You can also get a smaller, cheaper drive (like a 32gb) and use it as an accelerator cache drive. NO OS reloading necessary, just load the driver and your performance will increase for most repetitive tasks pretty noticeably. Tips: Make sure you BIOS is updated to the latest. Make sure the Drive Firmware is also the latest before loading anything on it. Lastly, you need a T5 torx screwdriver to open the Q550LF, be careful, they're easy to strip.

I am having the exact same issue. I've got about a month left on the warranty, so I've contacted Asus about sending it in for service. I'll keep everyone posted.
-
I reinstalled Windows 8.1 on the laptop due to some issues. Does anyone have the driver for the keyboard backlighting because the keyboard wouldn't lit and the button on the top left of the laptop (some asus app) wouldn't work too.

you need to install the ATK drivers first, then the touchpad drivers. -
New update on bios released 08/01/2014.
http://www.asus.com/supportonly/Q550LF/HelpDesk_Download/
BIOS 215
Disable SATA port 0/2 DevSlp feature.
What exactly does that mean? -
Having a weird issue with speakers. When I play a sound from lets say youtube or anything else, and click pause right away, there is a faint buzzing noise coming from the speakers. During this buzzing noise, if I go and turn down the volume completely, the buzzing still goes on. It lasts for about 5-8 seccnds and stops. Even when I use my mouse to adjust the volume on the desktop, the beep that is made when adjusting the volume bar also comes with a buzzing.
Would anyone try and see if they hear this buzzing sound too? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You will have to install ATK driver in order for the backlight to lit up. -
DevSlp is Device Sleep. This means they turned off device sleep for the internal hard drive and (I think) the mSata slot on the motherboard.
The optical drive is on port 1, the HD on 0, and I think the mSata slot is on 2. (I'd check, but my notebook has been at Asus for a week for the keyboard RMA.)
As for the speakers, it happens on mine too. When there is no sound being output, the amplifier turns off. When the buzzing stops, it means that the amp is no longer being powered.
At least it's not like my ThinkPad T420s- When no sound is going, it emits a high pithced whine through the headphone jack, once the amp is turned off. -
ahh i got it. so its normal for that to happen with the speakers? i was really dreading the thought of having to RMA it, since i got windows 7 installed and everything to my liking.
thanks for your reply and also for the info on devslp. -
Yes, that is normal for most electronics speakers, be it computer, phone, or mp3 player. Some buzz worse than others.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes since the circuits in a compact environment can be noisy so they filter it but it's not perfect. They turn it off to save power.

Installed Windows 7 and everything has been working great.. except now. I just tried hooking up to my TV via HDMI cable and the tv says there is no signal.
I dont see any missing drivers in device manager.. any ideas on what could be happening? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Expand your display adapters, and tell us the names of devices listed.
Try updating the VGA driver to the latest version from Intel's website and see what happens. -
As you all know the Q550LF has a combination audio port that combines headphone and microphone. I purchased a "Y" adapter with a 4-section plug so that I could use a standard analog headset (headphones and mic combo). However, when I plug the adapter in, the laptop recognizes it only as "headphones." It does not recognize the microphone component at all. I have used the headset and "Y" adapter with my smartphone successfully, so I know it works. I have tried both Realtek audio drivers that are listed on the ASUS support site for this model as well as using the standard Microsoft High-Definition Audio Device driver. All three of them fail to recognize the microphone portion of the headset combo.
I realize that I could purchase a USB headset and forget this issue. I will do that if there's no other resolution. However, I'd like to fix this if possible. Any help would be appreciated. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
There's only 1 choice you can have from that jack. It's a jack with a selectable single purpose, it's either audio or microphone but not both. -
You mis-understand, the jack in the laptop is a standard headphone jack with only 3 points of contact. Your Y-cable is designed for jacks with 4 contacts that are common in todays phones. You would probably find the least amount of trouble by going through with a bluetooth headset. A USB device and managing a cable or a mic and a cable for the headset sounds..messy.

I just updated my Asus Q550LF to the newest Bios version which was 215. I previously had 211. However, this didn't help change the fan noise at all. Can anyone help me find a solution to reduce or turn off the fan during non-intensive uses? My laptop has the fan on the entire time when it's on and it's louder than most laptops.
-
has anyone figured out how to stop the auto dimming on this laptop. it drives me wild. ive tried all the options
-
That sounds like something is broken. The fan should rarely be on during desktop use, and with game use the fan shouldn't be that loud.
Audigy, I don't remember where the dimm timer settings are, but in the advanced power settings under the display tree is the dimmer brightness level. For now you can just set it at the same brightness level as your normal brightness. My screen off timer is 10 minutes and I never have it dim while I am infront of it. -
Hi Everyone,
First post here! I had a few quick questions for everyone.. I bought this laptop about 13 months ago, and have been a huge fan. I do a small amount of gaming through Steam, particularly Dota, which runs great. Battery life, screen quality, keyboard, everything is great.. besides my wifi!
Concerning the wifi- my connection intermittently drops out on its own, and is sometimes difficult to re-connect, forcing me to do a system reboot. I saw in this thread you could re-download drivers, has that worked? Has anyone had encountered this before with a full fix?
Also, I recently got a dual band Blast Plus+ wifi modem from Comcast (what an ordeal that was :thumbsup
. And it has a 2.4ghz and a 5.0ghz signal. My understanding is that this laptop has a WLAN 802.11 b/g/n (not entirely sure what that stands for) but that this should support both a 2.4ghz and a 5.0ghz signal. To date, all I can pick up is the 2.4ghz. Is this normal?
Other than that, does anyone recommend any updates or particular installs to help overall speed and capability? Please keep in mind I'm not very technically inclined! :hi2:
Would really appreciate any help this community could provide! Thank you!!
-Matt -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yes, a lot of notebooks are only equipped with 2.4GHz due to cost reasons.
If you want to take advantage of 5GHz then you will need to swap out the WLAN card.
Intel WLAN card is the best out there.
