Mstern, you said you got it 13 months ago so it sounds like you got the first version, the one that comes with windows 8.0. That one came with a wifi card that only supported 2.4ghz. The second revision that comes with windows 8.1 swapped the wifi card out with one capable of dual-band.

Thanks! I will look into that for sure. How about the problem of my wifi dropping out periodically? I've experienced this at a number of locations, not just my own house. Is that a driver problem?

Damn! Thanks Jeff, I have upgraded to 8.1 in the meantime, but your right.. When I purchased the laptop it came with 8.0.. What are the advantages / disadvantages of upgrading my wifi card capable of a dual-band signal? Could this help my wifi dropping out on me periodically?

Yes, it might be driver issue, have you tried updating it?
Tell me the model of the WLAN adapter and I will help you to locate the newest driver for it.

    Thank you.

Hey Kevin- Attached here I found the model of my WLAN adapater.. To my knowledge I've never updated it. Though on it, it does say under Radio Types Supported: 802.11n , which I thought should be a 5.0ghz signal? Thanks again!!

Thank you!!! I'll update this today and hopefully that fixes the bulk of the problem... If it doesn't I may look to purchase a new WLAN card, I know you said Intel is your preferred brand, was there a specific model you think is the best?

    There aren't many choices here.
It's either Intel 7260 AC or Killer N1525 AC (aka Qualcomm Atheros).
    Q550LF uses Mini PCIe.

I can't see any bluetooth devices with this laptop. I'm trying to connect a mouse and don't see any devices. I know my iPhone pairs up with my car and is discoverable. Anyone know how to troubleshoot bluetooth connectivity problems on the laptop?

Havec, I recently ran into the issue where my BT disappeared and there was an unknown usb device error in my device manager. It took me a couple hours but I found it was a common problem with the intel wireless card. At some point it was updated with the wrong driver before I realized it. I was able to resolve the issue by completely removing all intel wireless installs and then uninstalling the devices. Your wifi will still need drivers reinstalled but when you reboot the bluetooth part should be picked up by Microsofts built in drivers.

    Greetings,

I ordered the Q550 for store pickup, but at the store I noticed the Q551. Changes that I could determine were going from 4500u to 4510, gt745m to gt840m, and it's now a "2 in 1" which means it folds all the way open to become a giant tablet. I never had a hands on with the Q550, but the Q551 felt great, the screen looked great, and the sound quality was really good. Not sure how accurate the battery time left predictor is, but after using it for a few minutes web browsing and blasting the speakers on you tube it ranged between 4.5 and 6.5 hours left from a full charge which seemed good to me. Anyone have any experience with the newer model, any reason to prefer the old one? I haven't opened the box yet, don't want to make a mistake!

    Thanks for any info.

Interesting, it does seem like it is the spiritual successor (It is pretty much a new shell along with new cpu and new gpu) to the q550lf, satisfying the "discrete gpu gaming computer at $1000 mark" of which asus only maintains one series. It looks like it is at the best buy near me, could have taken a look at it yesterday to check out the shell. Unfortunately I probably won't be back there for some time. No youtube video yet. I probably wouldn't worry about it, this isn't new territory to asus, it will probably be another great pc.

I also ran into this problem today, where my bluetooth disappeared but the WiFi is working. I got the same unknown USB Device error. Can you explain in more detail how you got it to work? I tried uninstalling the Wifi Drivers from device manager but it did not solve problem. I also have a second problem with this laptop where randomly the trackpad will stop working. I have to restart the computer for it to work. Any one know what the problem could be?

This issue seems very rare, at least I have not seen one before.
But if it's showing yellow bang then it's definitely missing a driver, you can visit www.intel.com to obtain the latest driver there, or visit the URL below.

Is there an option to remove the device and software for it in device manager?

Sad to see the only reason this thread is bumped is because of the BT issue. Anyways, did you guys try rolling back your WIFI driver? I have not had this happen again since I updated my wifi driver and it fubard my bluetooth. Since then I do not update my wifi.
