    Quatro,
No need to eat any humble pie. We're all friends and colleagues here sharing our experiences and bettering each other for it. I'm glad that you found BatteryBar useful. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

FYI - the 4% wear that you see is an intentional design feature in modern Li-on batteries. It's designed that way to retard the degradation of your battery over its lifetime. The downside is that you won't get the full battery life that you'd have gotten had they not designed the batteries that way. However, I believe it's worth it as your battery will last many more years than older style batteries.

My MSI GX640 battery had 10% wear right from the start. The Toshiba R705 has 8.5% wear. I haven't installed BatteryBar on my 3820TG so I don't know what its wear is yet.

I'm a FPS and realtime strategy person myself. I'll definitely check out Braid once I get my Win 7 OS fresh reinstall completed. Thanks again for letting me know about it.

If you like Braid, then you should also check out Trine. Also, do a search for "braid star guide" and look at some of the videos ;) Don't look if you want to try and discover the stars yourself.

Just saw the demo to Braid. It looks really cool!

At first glance, it looks like "Donkey Kong" meets "Alice in Wonderland" and "the Matrix"!

Here's something else that you might find interesting but there is a review on blog.screenaid.com that shows a user getting a 3DMark Vantage score of 5595. The screenshots of the GPU load out match those of boriskov's however it never is shown/said if the user OC'd the GPU to get that score. From what I understand, 3DMark Vantage is a DX10 benchmark and gives nVidia chips a slight advantage due to the PhysX Engine.

    ASUS U35Jc Notebook Review | Blog - ScreenAid.com

Also, another user posted their results for the U45jc and they benchmarked theirs in 3DMark06 and their score was 3757. Once again, no word as to if they OC'd the GPU.

    ASUS U45JC Laptop Review | Blog - ScreenAid.com

All in all, it seems that the best way to test a GPU's performance is raw gaming/image processing scenarios.

Maybe we could get some of you who have their U35's or U45's to do benchmark tests in both 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage.

I have just received my u35jc. I live in France and it turns out that the notebook I got comes with the "small" battery, namely a 4400 maH. Therefore I would like to know where I could get a larger battery. Apprently it seems we can use batteries intended for the UL30 and UL50. Is this possible?

Philly: The screenaid folks were using PC and 3DMark Vantage, which explains the scores. Most people still use PC/3DMark 06 as the standards (it's all pretty arbitrary to me).

Yes, very arbitrary indeed. Does anyone still have an answer to my VRam question? It is a pretty general question (not Uxx specific), but I am just curious if the default clocks shown in the system are set by the drivers or are what the hardware is rated at? My question comes from specs on nVidia's site about the 310M. Thanks!

Are the touchpad & palm rest area totally smooth or is that weird design textured? I'm having a very hard time getting over it. It's like vinyl flooring when you could use a real tile. :(

Again though, no one carries a 13" UL series near me so I haven't actually seen one of these in person and touched one.

The driver doesn't appear to set the stock speed. You can change your driver but the clocks will stay the same, though nVidia Control Panel & nVidia System Tools or GPU Tools will allow you to overclock the GPU & VRAM.

It seems that that is exactly what ASUS has chosen to do. Perhaps due to cost or battery life concerns. No idea why, but that is the situation. :(

That 8 or 16x appears to change with use. It has on mine and I've no idea why. I'd ignore it. Better to test your system in real use like a real game or 3DMark06.

the funny thing with asus is that they decide to release this color at one particular region and they release another different color at another region...that's freaking weird...

we have blacks only available here...but no Silver!

Yeah, I was wondering that too. Can someone with the U35JC with 5600mAh battery check it and post the model number? Or even the U30JC, just to see if a U series model uses the same one.

Hi all, I've been lurking around this forum for weeks to decide whether to buy an u43 or u45 and I've decided to buy the u45 after going to best buy to test out the u43. At best buy I noticed that the touchpad wasn't very sensitive and the left and right click buttons were very hard to click, like I needed to push it harder than I would have to on my Dell Inspiron 1420. Same goes with the keyboard. The keyboard didn't really register the keys I pressed and the letters "s", "y" and "g" were not working. Not sure if that's all keyboards, but they weren't working at the best buy I went to.

Anyway, I've now decided to go with the Asus u45jc from either Xoticpc or Gentechpc. Does it matter which one to choose and is there a reason to choose one over the other? Also, to the people who have the u45jc already, how are the speakers? I'm a HUGE movie/video watcher on my laptop so I was wondering if the sound quality was good. And is there a point to upgrade the sound card if what they're offering is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Channels 24-bit External USB Sound Card or Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi ExpressCard 24-bit Sound Card?

Oh also, I just checked on Xoticpc and a few days ago there was an option to change the dvdrw drive to a blu-ray drive, but this is no longer offered. Does anyone know the reason as to why this changed?

If lifelong customer service and attention to details mean anything to you at all, then buy from Ken Lee at GenTechPC.com. He has repeated gone out of his way to help people with problems, including talking to his ASUS contacts in Taiwan.

If you don't care about any of those things, then it really doesn't make much difference where you buy from.

The touchpad on the U43 is bamboo and having handled the display model at best buy it is definitely smooth, not plastic and dimpled like the U45JC. The touchpad is a engraved in the sense that it has a border where there is a crevice so you can feel for where the touchpad ends and begins. The keyboard on the U43 is also different as the U43 keyboard is aluminum and no discernible flex from what I saw.

I tried to order me a U35JC from GenTech, but for some reason the e-check option did not turn up when I was redirected to paypal. I emailed GenTech support, but I was hoping someone here could have the answer. I used the code on the GenTech site and received the discount there, and I do have a checking account linked on PayPal, but the only options I get to pay when I am redirected to the PayPal site are credit card or instant transaction.

It's not easy since you can't access the wireless card from the bottom, you'll need to remove KB, palm rest, the screen and then flip the mainbard to see the wireless card.

I saw your email and already replied. :)

U35JC-A1 and U45JC-A1 only comes in Silver in North America doesn't matter where you get it from.

Because often times people may want to upgrade their wireless card. In most other laptops, it's as simple as opening the bottom panel and then replacing the card.

As Ken described, it's a lot more complicated than that for the U35jc.

I don't see it as a big deal and not a deal breaker. Those not used to opening a laptop might (not suggesting you fit in this group). I would imagine it'd be a bigger deal for gentech, who must deal with it should a customer want another wireless card.

Gentech / Ken , care to comment further on the overall design / upgradability of the u35jc? (or is it too early for that?)

Anyone else have a high pitched whiny noise going on? Almost constantly? I can suddenly stop, but very rarely. I wonder if its a fan or something else. HDD? I removed the clicking noise from the HDD, but maybe its also making that annoying sound.

I have the WDC HDD, which makes the clicks. Hopefully others got the seagate!

    Hello,

I ordered from Xotic a few weeks ago and just got an order update saying they are arriving in stock soon and mine has been approved for production. So hopefully they are about to receive them too!

I've been following this thread since it started and have learned a lot. Thanks guys.

    Jeremiah
