    I pre-ordered U35JC, but I got U43 bamboo now :)

Bamboo has better CPU, webcam, USB, WiDi, and aluminum.

    but no BT, heavier.

    Price is almost same :)

I just cancelled my order from Xotic PC because they still wouldn't give me a good estimate on when they were going to arrive. So I called Ken from GenTech and he said it will ship either today or Monday! WAHOO! I will have mine by next week.

Spoke to a rep at J&R, I actually called to cancel my pre-order (cashback issues I mentioned previously) and she asked if I wanted her to check to see when they'd be receiving their shipment. She didn't give me an exact date unfortunately, but did say they would be out by the end of the month. So, I guess they don't have it yet, but hopefully that doesn't mean I'll have to wait too much longer.

In any case, my second pre-order is submitted. This time I'm only doing the 5% cashback through DealDigs and not using the $10 coupon. J&R said they would still honor the referral even if I used the coupon, but DealDigs told me they couldn't guarantee the cashback payment. Still, $40 off 800 sounds good enough for me.

The fact that GenTech has it and J&R has no clue when they are actually receiving it kind of sucks. I may have to cancel my pre-order at JR.com and go with GenTech.

Through extensive mental discipline, repeatedly unexplainable BSOD's and super hot lap temps on my Dell, I am 95% back on the U35 bandwagon regardless of the weird palmrest pattern.

Black or silver, the question remains....

If GenTech got their batch yesterday that means other retailers should get them VERY soon right? JR.com doesn't even have an ETA besides the end of this month (Just got off the phone with them).

I have 2 day shipping on J&R and if they ship by Wednesday I will get it the same time if I ordered from GenTech with free ground shipping. I am unsure if JR.com will have the U35JC by then.

Where did you buy your U43? BB? The standard U43Jc is listed as having BT, so I'm mystified how you don't have it.

Yes, all new ASUS notebooks have an internal webcam, so the U45Jc does have a 0.3 MP webcam.

I ordered on amazon. it's X1, so doesn't have BT.
[ but I am not sure because I don't use BT at all ]

I am checking it again now.

Yes...it does not have BT, so I am happy~ :)

Anyway, Can I replace ODD into HDD on my U43 Bamboo??

No at all, it's pretty quiet.

Yes that's the CPU soldered on the mainboard just like i3-370M on U45JC, U33JC will be the same.

Many people were asking if CPU on U35JC can be upgrade to i5 and sadly it can not.

The Samsung Q430 has a slightly faster i5 but does not have switchable graphics. The GPU is identical to the one in the U35, and may actually perform slightly better seeing as how Asus skimped on the VRAM that was paired with the 310m in the new U series laptops. However, the battery on the Q430 will only last you about 3 hours and change.

So the only advantage the U35 has is battery life? I'm coming from a pretty bad Gateway NV with an hour charge on lower brightness setting. 3 hours is pretty much a Godsend for me.

    I guess I'll choose the Q430.

2 year standard Asus warranty + perhaps 1 year additional credit card warranty will make this deal very tempting.

Call your credit card company...just a brand (ie American Express, Mastercard, Visa) doesn't mean anything...it's based on the specific type of card as not all of them have the same perks and benefits.

Here is the answer to the question of how to upgrade the wireless card on U35JC, it's very difficult:

Like I mentioned a while ago it does looks exactly like UL30 series, 5% of the card is visible once the HDD is removed.

However, the card can not be pull straight out like SD card, on mini PCI express slot the card needs to be lift up about 30 degrees angle in order to pull out the card just like RAM, so I don't see it's possible just pull the card out straight without damage the slot.

As you can see on this picture the card can not be lift up because it'll hit the bottom of the laptop case:

To swap the card you'll have to:
    - Remove the keyboard
    - remove the palmrest (C panel)
    - remove the screen

Now you can see the mainboard assemble upside down which you can access to absolutely nothing:

The last part is remove all screws and turn the board around and now here is the wireless card:

    Thanks.
But how do you know U45JC has a longer battery life?

PS. I love U35JC too, but I'm afraid that it's sometimes inconvenient because it doesn't have optical drive. poor me!!! If U35JC has the ODD, there's no reason that I don't buy this one. Except that aspect, U35JC is so cool, isn't it? (Ultra portable, powerful, good looking...)

assuming u45jc same like u35jc in terms of battery life, mine can last for 8 hours with wifi on..

yeah u35jc dun hav odd, but i prefer to hav it external as it juz adding the weight n could b a hassle once it spoilt..

so far i am very satisfied with my u35jc.. :)

    Wow, amazing!!! 8 hours!!!

Does "USB 2.0 External Slim DVD±R/RW Drive" work with it? I mean the U35JC!

Can you tell me some comments about the U35JC you had? I often use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, some games like Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, Starcraft 2 as well as some minigames. Does this U35JC comfort me all this things? (for games, I just need medium quality, not the best!)

in my country, u get free external slim dvdrw drive along with the notebook..

it can play most of not too heavy games with medium settings..

but if ur concern is gaming, better find other model as this one is meant for portability and long lasting battery usage..

With SHE on in battery saving mode and brightness down to around 20%. This backlit LCD is actually pretty bright.

BTW, for those still concerned about fan noise--I'm current scanning (AVG fast scan) a large set of >300k files with max CPU and no SHE. All 4 CPU threads are jumping back and forth between 80 and 100% utilization. Fan noise is perceptible , but is far from annoying. During normal operation, I can barely hear the fan against ambient noise (my place is pretty quiet unless I turn on the AC, which gives out a faint hum).

The biggest reason why I went with the U30JC is that I'm going to be using my laptop almost exclusively on flat wooden desks. I like that the U30 vents feed air from the front and out the side so even on a desk I'm not covering up any vents. The U35 and U45 both have vents on the bottom and ultimately led me to my U30.
