My CPU is stuck at 890MHz, it doesn't matter what power plan I use or if SHE is enabled or disabled. I suspect that something's wrong with SHE, is there a way to reinstall it?

    Ouch! Sorry to hear that!

Should I even bother updating the Bios? I definitely don't want to deal with it getting bricked. Will the newest nvidia drivers work soon without flashing the bios? What do you guys recommend.

    Will be here Wednesday :D

Hi Christoffer. The Intel HD graphics chip is part of the i-series processors (except for one or two versions of the i7). That means that ANY laptop with an i-series CPU (including the U45Jc) will have the Intel IGP included since it is inside the CPU.

So, yes, the U45Jc (not the F) has both the nVidia GPU and the Intel HD IGP chips.

The U45Jc will be identical to the U35Jc except it will:
    1) have a larger screen (1.27cm wider and 0.6cm higher screen panel)
    2) have more weight (not sure, but could be up to 400gr heavier)
    3) be thicker (due to an included DVD drive)
    4) have an internal DVD drive
    5) be a bit more bendable as the plastic around the DVD drive is often not very reinforced and so will bend more than the bottom plastic on the U35Jc which has no DVD drive.

Battery difference will be very little. The U35Jc will get up to 1/2 hr more battery life (it depends on what you are doing with it.)

    I hope that helps.

If you look on the ASUS U35Jc driver download page, you'll see they offer (& support) WINFLASH, not EasyFlash. Why were you using that? Stick with what ASUS supplies you for flashing tools!

ASUS does NOT support EasyFlash. Let this be a caution to others. Be careful!

I've flashed my BIOS several times with WinFlash and not had a problem even once. ASUS knows what it is doing if we'll follow their instructions.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, the U45JC also got a better cpu than the u35jc in this store at least.
The U45JC got Intel Core i5 450M, while the U35JC got a Intel Core i3 370M, and having a dvd drive is pretty good to have at some times, so thats good even tho it will make it a bit thicker.

I also got a a small deal with the store to get the u45jc for the same price as the u35jc, so I guess i can just as well order this beauty tomorow then :)

Anyone know any good places to buy a good bag (something thin that i can put into my school backpack, to avoid getting scrathes at least)?

That must be how I bricked my UL80JT! I used EasyFlash because there was an Asus BIOS flashing tutorial on the forums that said it was the easiest of the three options!

Yeah, I found that odd as well. Personally, I prefer it that way, since the Intel HD GPU seems to handle 720 and 1080p without a hitch.

The sleeve that has been recommended around here is Zeroshock. I haven't ordered mine yet, but intend to. There's a thread over here that you might want to check out.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/accessories/302364-zeroshock-iii-notebook-sleeve-review.html

I'm not sure where you can order it other than eBay and maybe direct from Shinza (the manufacturer).

For any Canadians still looking for the U35Jc, DirectCanada.com lists it in stock at the somewhat decent price of $883.75 (CAD). I can personally vouch for their credibility, as they supplied the cheapest prices for the parts of my custom desktop (specs in my signature). And since we've ordered from there before, it's gonna be more convincing to my dad to let me get it.

FYI, they also have the U45Jc in stock, at the price of $963.36.

Pretty much what I'm looking for, thanks!
Gonna look more into it :)

Edit: Is there any difference on the sleeves the guy on eBay is selling? Since most of them have like "SLEEVE BAG FOR (product name on laptop)" or are they all the same (those that are in the same size i mean)

Good luck! I was able to convince my sister to stay home for a change next Wednesday to sign for my laptop. I won't be home due to being in class. I would probably be very tempted to skip class otherwise to play with it all day. :D

Thank you! Im trying to convince my boss to let me go home early in hopes of being there to sign for it. Unfortunately my brother doesnt live at home and works more than me so no one else can be home to sign for it. I would definitely be tempted to skip class too, but im still on summer vacation! I got this laptop for my second year of college at UCSC. Somehow the first year was managed on only an acer netbook and this Asus is a huge step up.

Summer is amazing! But now i will be able to be extra productive on a new computer! Im really hoping i wont have to flash a new bios. I would hate to brick it and not have time to get a replacement before i do go back to school. Im pretty confident that no matter what happens Xotic will take care of me though. They have been super helpful answering questions and have great customer service reps.

I am looking forward to using this over my sisters crappy HP too! The battery life on it sucks! Its also very thick and pretty heavy.

I am also a bit apprehensive on flashing the Bios. What is the main difference between the drivers where the bios flash is needed and the prior one?

From previous conversations i have gathered that the prior drivers do not successfully implement optimus into the system, resulting in the graphics card not being activated in many applications when it is needed. I would say someone else needs to verify this as i have no experience with it myself. There may be some other differences too, but im not sure.

I've been following this thread (as well as the thread regarding the UL30VT/JT) for a while now and finally made an account.

I was one of those who wanted the UL30VT, but decided to wait for the JT. After the checking out the JT's specs, I decided to go back to the VT, but now I'm interested in the U35JC since it's the same as the UL30VT, but with shorter battery life because does not include a CULV - which is fine with me.

    I have a few questions:
Where are those of you guys in the US ordering from?
Amazon is out of stock, but have a couple merchants I haven't heard of (except Buy). I've also heard of GenTech (good CS) and ExcaliberPC in this thread a few pages back.
Also, for those of you guys who have the U35JC, what kind of battery life are you guys averaging? Let me know what you guys use it for on a daily basis after leaving home with it at 100% and not charging until that day is over.

    Thanks!

There are a few listed on Google's shopping page. Google includes retailer reviews and one of them, CostCentral, is selling it for $812.94. It has nearly 4000 seller ratings and is listed at 4.5 out of 5 stars. Might be worth checking out. GenTech (and maybe others like Xotic) offer discounts if you pay "cash" instead of using a credit card. However, I want to use my card so I can take advantage of the extra year warranty it'd provide.

    I ordered it from gentech

I get an estimated 10 hours of battery life with power saver mode + SHE + lowest brightness setting + wifi ON

Its been about 2 hrs since typing this and windows is reading around 7-8 hrs, which is great. I am doing light web browsing, no video streams or music.

That's where I pre-ordered. They have no idea when it's coming in though. "Any day now." Very annoying. If you decide to wait, don't forget that there are sites that give you cashback at J&R. Dealdigs is one of them (though it's my first time using them so don't blame me if something goes wrong).

I got tired of waiting and ordered the U45JC from them instead. It's the same price and has an optical drive, so I didn't mind the change.

I've also been considering that one because of the slightly larger display, but I don't care much for the optical drive and it's also a bit thicker, right? I have yet to see that one in person.

It's a little thicker, and fairly light (I'm coming from a 15" HP that weighed 5-6 pounds WITHOUT the battery, so this is like heaven for me). I figure it can't hurt to have an optical drive. The only reason that I was hesitant to get the 14" is because those models usually have a lot of keyboard flex, but under normal typing conditions, I can't notice any flex at all. I just have to get used to this chiclet keyboard!

The one thing that bothers me about the U35JC is the air gets prtty hot coming out from the left side especially when i play games. Im not sure if the U45JC is the same or not. Just wanted to make sure you knew about this before you actually made your decision. You might also consider the U30JC since ive heard the cooling is better.

Well today I hooked my U35JC up to a samsung lcd tv for the first time using the hdmi out. It took me a while to get everything working fine, but this is how i did it. I noticed the resolution could not be changed at first to the native resolution of the tv since it was in duplicate picture mode. I changed it to only display on the tv and then I was able to change it to 1280x720. But there was still an issue, the picture wasn't sized right for the tv even though the resolution was correct. In order to fix this i had to manually adjust the picture size. All these things I was able to do using the control panel for the Intel gpu. Not sure if things would change when the Nvidia one kicks in, but im just putting this out there for anyone who might try and use their U35JC with hdmi. If anyone actually needs help with this I could make an easier to follow guide with pictures. Just reply to this post if your still having problems and i will

Easyflash is actually internal to the bios itself! Hard to believe it would be 'not supported' or maybe they shouldn't put it in the actual BIOS :) At a minimum, if they don't want you to use a built-in function of the bios, maybe don't make it a built in function?? Not certain the BIOS update is what bricked it.. but the timing seems to make me think it did.

its not tht asus didnt support easyflash, its part of the bios itself.. thts y asus didnt put it in the driver download page...

using easyflash is safer for me as no interruptions will occur except blackout.. winflash is in the os..

Oh, EasyFlash is in the BIOS? My bad. Sorry for my mistake.

Still, after I downloaded the BIOS to my HDD, & with my laptop plugged in and the AV & WiFi off, WinFlash only takes about 10-15 sec to flash. The OS is running off of the HDD plus using active RAM, so flashing to the BIOS to the side is a separate and easy. I've never once had a problem. Even on my Dell & my ASUS netbook, I flashed under a WinFlash utility with no problems.

Plus, who would want to flash the BIOS from within a utility within the BIOS itself? That sounds much more risky then flashing the BIOS from the HDD, even under the OS on the HDD.

Hey guys I got a ASUS U45JC 14" a week ago, it worked great in the begining and now last days it has for some reason really slowed down? For instance if i click the chrome button it takes a while for it to pop up and typing in word is painful since you can press a button and it takes 1-2 second for the letter to pop up..
There is nothing odd in the task manager (cpu and memory usage are fine and normal) and I Havn't downloaded anything or installed anything (except chrome, word was already on the computer).
I really have no idea what it could be... Any suggestions?

I have been using my U35JC for over 2 weeks now. It has been working great until yesterday. For no apparent reason, when I powered it on, the fan spinned like mad; so I restarted the computer and everything went back to normal.
However when I wanted to use it today, it was impossible to power it on (be it on AC on with the battery); the power button and the power led lit on but the computer itself never booted. I tried a couple of times until it eventually did. And what is even stranger is that when I restarted the computer or switched it off, powering it back on was normal.
Has any of you experienced such a problem?
Is this a BIOS related bug? I'm using version 207.
Or is it a power problem on the motherboard itself?
    Thanks for your help

I'm very pleased with the build quality of my U35, it's very solid and doesn't feel cheap at all.

I got 8 hours and some minutes of real battery life today, with very light usage. Wifi on, some browsing and chatting and brightness set to one click from the lowest possible setting (around 25% I think, but still bright enough to read in a moderately lit room).

I installed Ubuntu too, it gives me slightly over 5.5 hours of battery life. I have no idea how to enable SHE and Optimus isn't supported either, so that's what causes the decrease in battery life I suppose.

just received mine. didn't even boot from the included hard drive and dropped my 320 GB in. playing with it and so far it's great. ONLY gripe i have is that heat comes out of the computer, but i'll have that same gripe with every computer. i'll be back to comment some more. so far i love it. everything is exactly what i wanted (except a backlit keyboard, and mac-like touchpad :)).

    Hey Chanda Bear,

You were lucky with your U45Jc @ $799.99, JR just increased it to $849.99

I just received mine too. Too lazy to uninstall each bloatware so I'm doing a clean Win 7 reinstall.

Everything looks good so far at least at first glance except my touchpad clickbar has rather deep scrathes on it. Annoying but not the end of the world...

I thought the same exact thing, only to realize there was plastic film over the clickbar. Try checking to see if there is plastic on top (it's tough to see, but it should be there).

Well you could go to the UPS depot and pick up your package if there is one by you. I did that one time I missed my computer case delivery from UPS. All you have to do is call UPS and you should be able to set it up. Also make sure you bring id otherwise you won't be able to get the package.

I figured that it was just a way of appeasing us angry U35JC fans. They also had the U30JC B1 for $809.99.

Anyway, I'm pretty angry at the media controls, since apparently they only work for Windows Media Center. I would download the ATK drivers that let you change what the hotkeys do, but when I uninstalled the currently installed ATK passage, my computer initially would not boot.
