1. No difference
2. no blinking.. and no. This isnt a problem that goes away after a while it's there all the time.
3. yes, no odd/excessive blinking
4. around 10 sec, each time is around the same time.
Did a clean install with all windows updates etc. Still a bit slow/delay.
Could it be a hardware issue? -
Will maxing out the ram to 8GB DDR3 1333MHz make the U35JC -
- run warmer?
- drain battery faster?
I went with the 256ssd option, just deciding on the ram and placing my order! -

Has anyone tried out the webcam yet? I've tried it with Skype and the framerate kinda stinks. At first I thought that it could be due to my connection, but then I tried it with Asus' program (LifeFrame I think) and it's very slow there too.

Question:
the only U35 that is available in america is the U35JC-A1?
also what are the benefits of the 500GB Seagate XT 7200rpm Hybrid Drive 32MB Cache SATA II as opposed to the stock option? -
Just came home from class with my U35JC sitting on my bed
Absolutely gorgeous machine. It looks very nice and is much thinner and feels a lot lighter than my sisters HP notebook.
How long does it take for the initial charge so I can boot this up? -
Those with the u45, about how much battery life are you getting on battery saving mode when just surfing the web and maybe using office? Is battery life affected by windows aero?
-
I heard the graphics switching is better on this machine then on the machine in my sig. IE you guys have a switch whereas my switches when on battery power. I think id rather have a switch but oh well. the U35 seems to have a much longer battery life then the laptop in my sig also. the acer claims 8 hours and its not even half that at best. I havent recieved the acer yet so only time will tell if it was worth the quality risk getting the acer instead of the asus. I hear the U35 build quality isnt bad.

I cant get optimus to work with my lg monitor. I get an error and optimus will constantly go from on to off and the whole screen will flicker before the program i launched crashes. Anyone experiencing this same issue or could offer a hypothesis to a solution?
I am running bios 208 with the latest nvidia drivers -
To be fair, your 4820TG has twice the graphic power of the ASUS U35Jc, so that puts it in a very different notebook class. -
Thanks!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Power it up without the battery, why wait?
I'm not even sure if the "initial charge" thing is necessary with Li-ion batteries. -

Apparently JR shipped out my order today. Should get it tomorrow!
About time, I say. -
Question: I just noticed that straight from the factory setup process I find that my HD was split into 2 partitions? OS and Data, what's up with that? I did not have control over this, and DATA is hogging like 3/5ths of my total available space.

Here are my brief overall impressions:
Unfortunately,
Just kidding! I absolutely love this laptop! I can't find any faults! It is extremely quiet, thin, and light.
I remember some users had issues with a loose battery. I don't have that issue at all. It is locked securely in place.
I really like the chiclet keyboard and the screen looks great aside from the viewing angles.
I REALLY like the touch pad. The one on my sisters HP notebook was very annoying. This one is very smooth. Mine does not seem jittery like other users have noted on.
I have had it on my lap for about an hour and it doesn't feel hot whatsoever.
I'm not sure what else to touch on as most things have already been covered.
Overall, I REALLY like this laptop and it was well worth the wait! Anyone who is on the fence should definitely pick me up. Let me know if you guys have any questions you would like me to answer. Also, I would have liked to do a video review, but my camera sucks.
I do have a few questions though.
1) How can i edit my touch pad settings so I can make two swipes to the left/right make the browser go back/forward?
2) Will the new touch pad driver people mentioned work on the U35JC? I heard it was for the U45JC.
3) Do I get the nVidia app that allows me to set each GPU for each application from their website? Is 208 the newest bio release for that driver? I am VERY nervous about flashing the bios because other users reporting bricking their laptop. If I follow Quatro's mini-write up I should be ok, correct? -

^^ I have 258.96 for nVidia 310m that I downloaded from their website. When you install it, you get the nVidia control panel app which allows you to set which GPU to use for each app.

How do you guys get to the U35JC Driver list on Asus.com? They are not displaying the U35JC as an option.
Also, about the touch pad settings. I know there is an icon in the notification tray, but nothing happens when I click it.
EDIT: Clicked on the touch pad icon several times and it finally popped up, but I have a question. Quatro you mentioned I could do 3 finger swipes left/right to make my browser go back/forward. I don't see a customization option for 3 swipes. Am I missing something? -
Be sure indexing is turned off in Windows (it's on by default.)
Open Task Manager and see if there are any processes keeping the CPU busy.
I'm assuming with a fresh install, there's no AV that is keeping the HDD and CPU busy.
If the lag is still there after a fresh install and after Windows stops writing to the HDD and indexing is off and you can't see any processes keeping the CPU actively busy, then I'd suspect a hardware issue. A corruption or bad sector on your HDD, for example, could cause Windows to act slowed down, laggy and just odd.
Any one else have some idea or questions? -
I keep my answer
Why you here prefers the u35?
All you have in your firm U35JC... -
Try support.asus.com for the driver list if you haven't already. -
Once there, you'll need to search for U35Jc in the upper left-hand box. Choose your OS and you'll see the list for the BIOS & BIOS utilities. You want the BIOS 208 under "BIOS" and WinFlash under "BIOS Utility" (which you may already have installed.)
You notebook is new. Are you sure your present BIOS isn't 208 already? To be sure, you can check by pressing F2 at boot up and the first page of the BIOS tells you its BIOS version number.
Or when you open WinFlash, it will give you a warning screen and then ask for the location of your BIOS file to flash (you'll have to unzip it first). Then WinFlash will open and tell you what you current BIOS # is and what version it is flashing to. If it's the same number ... no need to flash it!
Three-finger swipe? Not on mine. There's only a three-fingered tap (under "Tapping".)
There are several ways to get to the touchpad set up.
You can access the touchpad setting from within Control Panel. My U30Jc's is under "Multi-finger". If you can't find it, be sure your Control Panel is set up to "View by Large Icon" instead of "Category".
I can also access the setting by double-clicking my touchpad icon in the lower-right.
Or if you get to the general mouse options, it in the last tab (ELAN) in "options"... that's if ASUS is still using Elantech as the touchpad maker. -
Will the new nVidia drivers ever work without flashing the new bios? -
If it freezes on bootup, you can boot into safe mode and roll back the nvidia driver.
And then you can flash your BIOS.
But if the flashing is just for the nvidia driver, I'd try that first. You may not need to flash it. -
Edit: Just saw you've been posting updates about J&R since the end of July! I guess I have a lot longer to wait if you just got your shipping notice (probably ordered about 3 or 4 weeks after you). -
I just came across this MSI ultraportable: MSI Global ? Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more
It was announced a long time ago, yeah... might come out soon?
As great as that one looks, I'm still probably gonna order the U35JC within the next week unless that MSI one hits markets soon. -
-
Flashed the bios today using WinFlash with no issues. Thanks again Quatro! Watching the progress bars made me so nervous! Glad everything worked out.
I truly am loving this laptop. I am so happy and it was well worth the wait. -
2 - The 'newest' driver is V7.0.5.12 and it works great (no swipe cmds)
3 - 208 is the newest bios... seems like most 'bricking' experiences (including mine!) resulted from use of the easybios update within the bios... sounds like nobody is having any issues with using WINFLASH... here is what I did:
- download latest bios, unzip and place the bios file on a thumbdrive
- run winflash (should already be on your computer)... select the file on the thumbdrive to update to
- install the new bios!
Should be that easy... worked perfectly for me. I did this before I updated the video driver so uncertain if it would work in reverse.
Good luck -
RESULTS? The 1000HA has swipe gestures and the U30Jc doesn't even give me the choice ... so it is definitely NOT a driver limitation, but hardware.
Just the way it is. Don't wait for a swipe gesture to be coming as an update. It won't happen. -
I tried a benchmark program for Resident Evil 5 and it says I have a Intel HD Integrated card...
How do I switch to the Nvidia 310m? -

Anyone have any problems printing to a shared printer? I am trying to print something from my laptop to the HP Printer that is hooked up to the Windows XP PC in the living room. It prints, but it is a mirrored image. I did check the settings and Mirrored image IS OFF.
I googled the issue and apparently plenty of others have experienced the same difficulties. Anyone know of a way to fix this? I know it has nothing to do with the laptop itself, but I was curious if anyone found a way to solve this problem.
Thanks! -
-
I should be getting mine this evening... Would anyone be interested in me posting actual pictures next to my NC10 or Westinghouse monitor? If no one cares, I won't waste my time!
-
*sigh* I tried updating the drivers for the 310m but now whenever I try logging into Windows the Welcome screen stays frozen.
How can I fix this? -
Press F12 during startup and start the computer through safe mode. You should then be able to roll back the Nvida driver in Device Manager. You can either try to reinstall the new one or keep the old.
It's interesting to sit back and observe all the little issues and inconsistencies people are having with their machines. I know the number of U35jc's vastly outweigh the U45 but the 14" model seems to have less issues with random things. -
-
Tried the RE5 benchmark and got 38.5 fps avg with everything low, native res.
-
Boot into safe mode. Uninstall the nvidia driver. UPDATE your BIOS to the latest (208 ?) via WinFlash (NOT EasyFlash.) Then install the latest nVidia drivers 258.96. -
Thanks -
Haven't updated my 1002ha driver lately...
