Don't trust that battery wear thang. When I first installed it I was at 2, jumped to 3, 4,5 even. It dropped to 3.1 a week ago, right now it says I'm at 3.5
Sidenote: Using the windows battery mater does is it inaccurate for you guys? Without running extra programs or even opening extra tabs, I was pegged at 5 hrs which a few mins later turned to 10, which dropped back to 5 a few seconds ago?
-
Yep. 6600mAh, so 97-99Wh sounds about right. Wow, so at 9-10W you'll get 10hrs from it. With ALL power saving on, one U35Jc user was running at a ridiculous 7.2W power consumption, so with that you'd get an absurd 13hrs!
HERE is a US link to a 12-cell 7800mAh battery. This one has a photo from the side so that you can see the extra ridge where they stick the extra 4 cells.
I can see a definite bump ridge where the feet pads of the battery are (in their photo) so it will raise your notebook up and increase your carrying weight & feel of the thickness.
On my 8-9 hrs, keep in mind that's with the CPU powered down to around 913MHz and only Word & Office apps open. Online & browsing & more tabs open push the time shorter. -
Okay, I more or less decided to go with the U35JC. (FINALY after more than 6 months of looking/waiting. Wanted the UL30A previously)The U35JC has new tech, very good performance, great battery (although not as much as the previous models with the culv cpu's.) and, in my humble opinion, best looks.
That the last culv models get better battery is something I can def. live with. The i3 performs way better and that will make me happier than a good 2 hours more (on the already 7/8 hours ! )
I'm still looking @ different models and reading reviews/forums, but I still can't find a good match for this model. Speaking of witch, I've been looking on places to buy it from. Here in The Netherlands they charge over 900 (sometimes a 1000
) euro's. That's with the 6 cell battery
. Ordering within the EU will cost me no taxes @ customs. The US is def. much cheaper. UK around 800 euro's and US 750 dollars
which is under 600 euro's. You lucky B
stards!
Now, which model to choose and where to buy?
U35JC-RX080V
U35JC-RX046X
U35JC-A1
U35JC-RX077V
U35JC-RX076V
These were the ones I could find, but don't know which is which (what specs go with which one). The i3 370 with the big battery would be my choise! Black or silver... haven't really decided, although I'm leaning towards the silver one.
So.. help me out guys!

The Windows battery meter will constantly change according to how you use your laptop. For example, if you are idling, your estimated battery remaining time should be at it's max. Once you start opening programs and especially run CPU and/or GPU intensive software, you are essentially using more power and hence Windows will recalculate a new battery remaining time for you.
-
Mine shows about 4% (80.8Wh capacity now. It was 84Wh when new) after 5 mo.
Comp321, before you worry, I'd watch it for another month. "Battery wear" seems pretty variable for the new batteries. Some come with a listed "wear" out of the box. You'll still get 3 yrs usually out of it.
Also, in spite of what you've heard, be careful NOT to discharge your battery very low (not below 10%). Deep discharges (in case you've ever done it) can damage the capacity of your battery and increase the "battery wear" number.
Ethicall, that's why I use BatteryMon more. The Windows battery icon re-figures the battery usage/time left once every 1% drop in battery power (about 3 min or so on battery saving mode for me) whereas BatteryMon recalibrates every 9 sec and it shows my present real-time discharge rate, which helps me to see what is happening and how actions of mine affect power consumption. My Windows battery icon can change the reading faster (every 1 min) but never anything near 9 sec. -
i think the only one we get here in the states is the A1 but i might be wrong.
either way i would go with the silver, ive heard that the black is a fingerprint magnet -
Well, have fun looking each one up. Typical variations will be i5-450M/i3-370M, 8-cell 5600mAh/6-cell 4400mAh, BT/no BT, 2 yr/ 1 yr warr, 320GB/500GB (& possible 5400/7200rpm), Win 7 Home Prem/Pro. Location can affect keyboard config and thus extension numbering as well. I'm not sure if the U35 has a choice of black or silver.
Okay, because I'm such a nice guy, (and I'm curious at so many European versions) I looked these up for you. Here's what I found:
- Model / CPU / HDD / Bluetooth / Battery / Kybrd / Color / OS / Price (country)
[*]RX080V: i3-370 / 320 GB / NO BT / 8-cell 5600 / UK QWERTY / Black / W7 HP / €699 (UK)
[*]RX046X: i3-370 / 500 GB / BT / 6-cell 4400 / NL QWERTY / Black /W7 Pro / €1049 (Netherlands)
[*]A1____: i3-370 / 500 GB / NO BT / 8-cell 5600 / US QWERTY / Silver /W7 HP / US $819 (US)
[*]RX077V: i5-450 / 500 GB / BT / 6-cell 4400 / BE AZERTY / Black /W7 HP / €823 (Belgium)
[*]RX077V: i5-450 / 500 GB / BT / 8-cell 5600 / BE AZERTY / Black /W7 HP / €996 (Belgium)
[*]RX076V: i3-370 / 320 GB / NO BT / 6-cell 4400 / FR AZERTY / Black /W7 HP / €799 (France)
Be careful on the model from the Netherlands in that I saw some who claimed bluetooth and some who didn't, some who had the larger 8-cell 5600mAh (or had no battery listing but claimed 11.5 hrs) and some who listed the 6-cell 4400mAh. Most listed no battery size.
I forgot to check on the warranty, but most all seemed to have the 2 yr warranty.
I hope that helps! - Model / CPU / HDD / Bluetooth / Battery / Kybrd / Color / OS / Price (country)

Wow Quatro, you're really too nice!
Well I'm not sure what to do now. The dutch version sucks. They are too expensive and the battery falls short.
I made a list of the things I want and I'm guessing only the one in the US is right for me?
- Silver (after much debate I think it stands out more and no fingerprints)
- i3 370m (the i5-450m adds TB, so not worth while right? )
- 5800mAh 8cell
- US or US international keyboard layout. They are basicly the same only the Int. one got more hidden keys I guesse. The others just don't do it for me.
- BT would be nice, but I've never ever used it so screw it.
Just 2 things I hate about this. Can't find out what it will cost me in the end (including getting it true customs) AND J&R just bumped up the price by about 50 bugs.

About to purchase my u35!!
im going with GenTech over Amazon even though GenTech is more expensive because A-i can upgrade my wireless and B-The best customer service around from what i've heard. ..cant wait to get it now
EDIT: I decided against upgrading the wireless because from what i read it won't really make a difference unless the wireless network i'm in supports the faster N settings (am i correct?). Should i get an external dvd drive or an external HD? .. i want to do a clean install (if i can figure it out) which one would be more beneficial, i dont really see myself using the external dvd drive though but will i need it for a clean install?? -
Color depends on what you want. Black for cool & sleek looking. Silver to avoid fingerprints showing.
Though I had heard that the black U35Jc was a matt black with a subtle print design in the housing (like the silver-gray) and so doesn't show as many fingerprints as before.
HERE is an interesting video review of the French version (in French, of course). You can see the housing better.
The battery is 5600mAh, not 5800mAh.
I still think for the money (after shipping & taxes) you'd get more with the Acer 3820TG there in Europe and an extra battery or larger battery isn't that expensive. The standard 6-cell on the Acer is 64Wh (4400mAh). All it needs is the bigger battery (which they DO sell there. A 6000mAh 9-cell for the 3820 out of China sells for $80/ 59 Euros.) One 3820TG owner turned everything on low and achieved a discharge rate of 5.2W. The lowest I've read on the U35Jc is 7.2W so if you get a bigger battery, the 3820TG would actually last longer. The 3820TG is a more powerful notebook and has a very good build. Just my thinking. -
An external slim DVD drive is cheaper ($35?) and is useful for when you need to burn a DVD or rip a DVD or rip some music or do a simple install of Windows, etc.
Eventually, you will probably upgrade your HDD, at which time you can buy a cheap external USB enclosure and put your old HDD in it (new one in the U35) and voila ... you also now have an external HDD. -
Yeah, I agree with quatro. Plus if you have a decently sized flash/thumb drive, you can install windows off that too. I picked up an external asus drive. Nice gadget to have.
-
Thanks Quatro and DuYaKnow,
Its $19 for the USB 2.0 External Slim DVD±R/RW Drive
and $29 for the Pocket Size 250GB USB 2.0/eSATA 5400rpm HD
ill go with the external dvd.
just made the purchase!! -
$29 for a USB enclosure and a 250GB HDD? How do they manage that? That is unbelievably cheap!
The cheapest 2.5" 250GB HDD (5400rpm) on Newegg is $45, and that's just the bare drive with no enclosure. The USB enclosure would cost you another $15-20. -
So how common is this CPU whine?
I got an offer on U35Jc, for just 75 dollars more than a UL30VT.
But looking through these post, the whine seems a tad scary. -
I think if you're sensitive to high pitch noises...be careful. But I have seen a lot claims that this is one of the most quiet laptops they have purchased. I am fully aware of the intermittent cpu whine, but made the purchase anyhow. If you're going to be using your notebook like a regular joe...like with music running in the background, during a lecture, or a coffee shop, etc...you probably won't notice. if you're in a dead quiet room by yourself, you might...just might notice. with these specs...i think i'll live with it, especially since this is actually not asus specific, but more of the i core series cpu. And I didn't want to consider buying last year's gen cpu to avoid a probably negligible cpu whine for the general population.
-
Thanks for the reply, helps alot.
Another thing I read is that the U35Jc gets a little hotter/warmer than the UL's. In what area are they hottest and is it annoying at any point?
And one last thing, does the U35Jc have a more matte finish than the UL30's glossy hell? -
It runs really cool internally...almost similar temps like the u30. On the outside, people have also claimed the the notebook is extremely cool and really only blows out hot air at the upper left vent...which it's suppose to do. People have said they can use this on their lap without damaging the goods.

still can't get used to the touchpad.. the cursor seems jumpy when i try to position it to a specific spot, e.g. on a link or button
can someone confirm this behavior:
if you put your finger anywhere on the touchpad without moving it, does the cursor dance around within a few pixels? is this normal?
i'm using the V7.0.5.13 drivers
thanks -
hi, If i wanted to buy parts for the u35, lets say a new keyboard, where would i go to buy it?
thanks -
This happens to me quite often. I still haven't found a fix for it. I'm not sure if the dimpled/textured surface might be the cause. I wonder if putting a clear piece of plastic (like the sticker that shipped with it) would improve performance. But I feel that the textured surface is quite pleasant, and would like to keep it as is. Decisions decisions!
The U35/45's internal finish, at least on the silver version, is matte and scratchproof. It's not solid silver, though; there's a pattern of little rounded squares that, to me, looks kind of like a very fine (probably not the right word) chainlink fence...someone help me out here!
And my U45 gets a little warm on the palmrests and touchpad, but never uncomfortably so. The side vent expels hot air very efficiently, but rarely gets hot itself. The back left corner of the bottom (which is where I'm assuming the gpu or cpu is) can get a bit toasty if stressed for long periods of time. -
I just recently updated my BIOS and Nvidia drivers to the 258.96 ones and i noticed that my framerate for league of legends sometimes skips and seems a little slower than when i had the stock ones. Would the 260 beta ones help improve framerate or should I downgrade if i wanted to retain my original fps.

Anyone experienced this problem?
YouTube - asus u35jc rx006v ??? ??? -
Thanks for the reply.
Just rechecked the back of the UL30's and the U35jc, and they have the exact same build base. So there will probably not be too much of a difference in heat level, only cause the i3 isnt a ULV or something. -
Now I'm confused. How can they have the same build base if the U30Jc has an ODD and the U35Jc does not, the U30Jc has an aluminum palm rest & touchpad and the U35Jc is plastic, the U35 is thinner & lighter than the U30Jc. Even the hinge system & power button(s) look different.
I would have thought that the U35Jc has a very similar base to the UL30Vt/Jt.
Or is there something I'm not seeing? -
Might be using the wrong words, but from the pictures they look pretty much the same, so I would expect that the intereor has the same layout on both models - Meaning that heat will be almost the same on both models.
I might be wrong, since I only judge it from these pictures -

UL30VT:

EDIT:
But the main difference between U30Jc and U35Jc is the DVD drive?
EDIT AGAIN:
Are you sure you didnt misread my post?
-
the main differences are
U30JC: smaller harddrive, optical drive, thicker, better cooling apparently, M310 is not underclock like it is on the 35JC, -
Oops. Sorry. You were very clear in your first post and correct. You wrote UL30 but I read U30.
My bad! -
does anyone know if i can use a ul30 keyboard from ebay on my u35?
-
Read this somewhere for a different computer with the same issue:
"Disabling eist/C1e in my bios cured the pitch. Thank you."
Anyone know how would we could do that for our ASUS 35JC/45JC? -
is this supply and demand or did people actually pay $83 for the zeroshock III sleeve? Amazon.com: Zeroshock III 13-inch Widescreen Notebook Case: Electronics
Zeroshock III 13-inch Widescreen Notebook Case -
you kinda want that otherwise your laptop temps and cpu will go up by 15c which is not good at all. Also, your battery life will decrease
well, I paid 34 on ebay and its pretty sweet
I bought off this seller

Can anyone record the whine, or is there a video posted with it?
I am dead curious about it, since I am so close ordering the u35jc.
But I wonder if the whine would be a annoyance on my university during lessons or workshops, which sometimes require everything to be quiet, almost. -
Boot up your machine and go to the BIOS.
Go through the settings until you locate 'Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology' and switch that off. -
Also check out CaseCrown sleeves on amazon. They also use memory foam and are priced better. Some good reviews on youtube. I kinda prefer a sleeve to have atleast a handle, so more of a case...i guess.
Big fan of this one... Amazon.com: CaseCrown Double Memory Foam Thin Pouch Case (Checkered Style) for ASUS UL30Vt-A1 Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Silver Laptop: Electronics
And one with no front pocket... Amazon.com: CaseCrown Premium Double Memory Foam Checkpoint Friendly Case (Checkered) for Sony VAIO VGN-Z550N/B 13.1" Laptop: Electronics -
Thanks DuYaKnow! thats exactly what i was looking for, a sleeve with a handle
-
I have no idea what he's talking about in the BIOS. "eist/C1e"? Where's that in any BIOS? Is this an abbreviation for something?
Oh, thanks, rjoudrey, that makes more sense. -
wouldn't doing this effect the battery life?
-
No problem...I actually wish they made the checkered style with a a shoulder strap. They have a similar style with removable shoulder strap in metallic silver. Cost about $25. I was thinking the silver wouldn't be bad with the u35jc, hehe. And definitely no go on the red one for me, even though the gf likes it. haha
Here's a link to the one I'm referring to. http://www.amazon.com/Apple-13-3-in...r_1_3?s=gateway&ie=UTF8&qid=1285789591&sr=8-3 -
That's fine and dandy if my BIOS actually had that option (I have BIOS 207 for my U45JC). Can anyone find it in their ASUS 34JC/45JCBIOS? If so, please point it out to me.
Thanks! -
I own a U30Jc. I'd suspect my BIOS is very close if not nearly identical to the U35Jc's BIOS. I have no such setting or option in my BIOS.
I do have the option to enable/disable "Intel Virtualization Technology", which is, I think, something completely different. -
Is this the CPU whine, people are talking about? Have to turn up the volume to hear it clearly, comes in beginning and a couple of times during the video.
YouTube - U35jc ????? -
Maybe.. This is kinda like asking if you go 30mph to work every day, will you get better mileage than if you did 90 the whole way and got there quicker.
Disabling EIST will lock your CPU into operating at either it's highest clock speed or its lowest, it won't settle on any of the in-between states. You'll operate at the higher voltage 2.4Ghz more often, but you'll get things done quicker and revert back into your minimum (should be ~460mhz when inSuperLFM) and then CPU sleep states.
If you can disable EIST/C1e, it seems this shuts off your C1 sleep too which is the lighter of sleep modes. This must be an Asus specific thing because usually just switching off EIST leaves sleep states alone. -
I hear what I'd call a sort of light scraping sound but sounds like a hard drive to me. The computer seems to be the quietest thing in the room though. That's good!
-
Someone should jump on this, get rid of the 5400 in their U35.

I was able to find a fix for netflix freezing! I just downloaded and installed the intel drivers for the intel hd graphics card, from the intel website. Did that about 1 week ago, and haven't experienced any blue screen/crash. The HD videos don't run as smooth as they did with the previous drivers, but you can't complain when the computer is no longer freezing. The only difference now on hd video, is that it will pause a little bit while watching. Too bad you can't run silverlight with 3d acceleration yet.. I just wanted to let the netflix users know how to solve the problem, if you're computer is getting blue screens from watching netflix video.

My own battery life experience.
Wifi on, Logitech wireless mouse dongle plugged in, MSN messenger running, screen lowest brightness, power saver mode with CPU set to no more than 30%. No power saver background but AERO disabled and screen turn off in 1 minutes.
Taking note, surfing the web on and off for over 5 hours, I still have 34% battery left. Meaning I use 13.2% battery per hour under the above circumstances. MSN messenger drained battery and wireless dongle did as well. By pure calculation, my usage would allow me at least 2 more hours so 7 hours on and off usage with some video and chatting was perfect for my school all day.
While its not 10 hours, we all know its like MPG for cars..rating system is way outdated. -
Greetings. Just got my u45 last week and having a play. Updated the bios to 207 and downloaded the latest optimus (189.79) but when I try to install says I don't have the required hardware.
Any ideas? How do I tell if Optimus is installed/running?
Cheers -
My latest battery experience that impressed me was on the other end of the spectrum. Watched streaming hulu+ in 'high performance' mode, with accelerator on via HDMI on my 52" LCD TV. Streamed nearly 3 1/2 hours (4 'hour long' TV episodes with limited commercials, so closer to 45-50 min each) of video non-stop and had 10% remaining afterward. Pretty amazing stress test to me. Didn't think to check the drain rate on the battery app... but it had to have been about the max the thing does, using WIFI, HDMI, NVidia card, etc all at once continuously. Video/audio were pretty flawless the whole time.

Just got my u35jc-a1 yesterday. updated to bios 208. Did a clean install. nvidia 260 beta. My WEI scores were 6.7, 5.9, 4.3, 5.9, 5.9. Still messing looking up all the drivers.
update: nvm...so dumb. haha.
anyway...installed battery mon and will test later
Out of the Asus apps...I like the mult thing. nice way to organize windows quickly and cleanly. Love the laptop. But I do feel some moderate heat at the so called "ice cool palmrest"
