    Hi,

I would like to know what keyboard the RX117V & RX118V models from Malaysia..
I'm looking for a U35JC model with a BT, core i5, 8-cell and English only Qwerty keyboard like the US model.
Also if you know please tell me what are the differences between those keyboards?

    Thanks in advance..

    EDIT:
Just checked wikipedia and it says Malaysia has US keyboards..

make sure you keep your proof of purchase... and i think that's it

currently whine-less... haven't been in a silent environment yet, but so far i haven't even heard anything from this laptop

I finally got my i5 U35jc from taiwan! it's beautifully black!
can anyone advise me on which version of BIOS i should flash it into and which optimus driver i should install before i brick it during my busy school year and spend a weekend fixing it? :D

    Re: The "High pitched whine"

For those of you hearing the high pitched whine, are you guys under 18 years old? Made me think of an article I read below where if you are a teen , you're able to hear high pitched noises that older adults aren't able to. Just interesting if it is the case.

I got the U35JC-A1 a couple of days ago.
Also, I'm in college, and I don't hear any whine at all.

I haven't found a single thing that's bad about the laptop.
It's very compact and the silver parts on the lid and keyboard base are great looking. Coming from a Core 2 Duo machine, I actually noticed a definite increase in CPU speed.

Scratching the bezel on this thing is pretty easy - but it's not a big deal. Everyone else notice this?
I'm sure it's the same for all ASUS laptops with the black plastic bezel.

yeah, the black bezel over the battery is scratched on mine. It's actually still exposed after closing the laptop, so sliding the notebook in and out of cases is gonna show some scratches eventually.

It can't be undervolted. The info from Intel needed to write the software hasn't been made public, no developers can do anything about this.

Great Find Edgeling! I gave it a whirl and it definitely seems to work better than the 7.0.12 to me as well. My mouse has been stable, but two-finger scrolling was very jumpy and nearly unusable. With the 8.0.7.0, scrolling is very stable as well... surprised it isn't on the Asus site at all yet... maybe it isn't an official release... but either way it definitely works well for me so I will keep it... thanks for being on the lookout!

HERE is the direct link to those Elan Touchpad 8.0.7.0 drivers. Good find! I'll give them a try.

UPDATE: Be careful everyone. This French driver site, when accessed & searched (to find the driver), pops up a number of pop-up ads. THAT I don't like and I find suspicious. It may be nothing but income generation, but worth noting. My direct link gives you access to JUST the touchpad driver file, if you want to try it.

Also be careful of those NVIDIA mobile processor drivers. NVIDIA itself isn't listing them (260.81 WHQL, 260.89, etc.) Only use drivers clearly listed as compatible with 310M & Optimus.

Hmm. When the new touchpad drivers are working they are working well. But whenever my computer goes into hibernate and i wake it up the functionality is lost. I checked and it still says it has the updated drivers, but when i bring up the touchpad options from its icon it shows only the options from the previous drivers. Its very strange. Any ideas?

Mine seems to work fine... options don't disappear when I sleep/wake... only 'oddity' I see is under the mouse control panel it shows two Elan tabs (normally one) both seem identical and when you click on both it causes a crash of the control panel. Otherwise no issues.

Same thing happens to me with crash and two tabs. Another issue I have is after waking my computer from hibernation, my p4g button doesn't seem to work anymore. The new 3 finger gestures are great by the way. Also nice to have both 2 finger scroll and side scroll.

I even tried deleting all of my touchpad driver software and installing the new driver straight from Quatro's link. I then restarted and the driver was successfully installed with all the new features working. Just as a test i put it to sleep, woke it up and all the new features were gone, but it still says its the new driver and i dont even have the old one in the system. =( Please help! i really like the new features.

I would have put 20 as being very close to 18.

I still use a Palm TX PDA. It was long noted for a whine from the screen. They even had an app to change the screen frequency to stop the whine.

I'm 57 and could never hear it. Most of my 22-yr-old students can hear the whine just fine (to their annoyance!).

So I wouldn't make 18 the magic number. Just that mid-20's and below can often hear higher frequencies that those above can't.

(And in auditory tests, my hearing is deemed good.)

And that may be the very reason ASUS doesn't list these drivers. They may be beta or some user's experiment and therefore not 100% compatible or stable.

I'm not going to install them after all. I'd love more gestures but not at the risk of loss of stability.

I tried this new drivers last night while I watched the ball game.

It installed fine and I do too have the 2 tabs in the driver menu.
The scroll seems to work better but it works with my middle and ring fingers as opposed to my middle and index, strange trying to get used to this.

Also when I hit the tab to the very left it errors out when I hit the tab farthest to the right on then menu it brings up the menu correct. I thought it may have been that I installed it over the existing driver rather than uninstall then, installing the new ones.

The drivers you posted a link to have an annoying problem that forced me to revert to the old ones.
When you have a horizontally-scrollable window up, such as a file selection box, upon click left clicking twice with the mouse bar, it scrolls to the right by itself.
Let me know if you all have this problem.

    EDIT:
With the latest Power4Gear Hybrid, Super Hybrid Engine no longer shows as an option.
Does it automatically turn on with Battery Saving mode now?
Here's what the new Power4Gear looks like:

What are the new three finger gestures in the new driver? Pinch/zoom also sounds great. I am interested in the new gestures, but like Quatro said, not at the loss of stability.

    I have two other questions

    1) Is it possible to display 1920x1080 on a TV? I plugged my laptop into my TV for the first time today via HDMI. It took a bit of messing around to get it to work, but it works fine now. How can I make the nvidia GPU turn on when I have it plugged in and display a higher res?

    2) Is there a way to remove finger oils on the keyboard? Under very bright light I can see faint oily spots on certain keys. My hands are always perfectly clean before using my laptop. My friends Asus notebook has the same problem, but his look much worse as hes had it for over a year. Its not really a big deal. Just wondering!

It has pinch/zoom, rotate, 3 finger swipe to go forward and back pages, 3 finger tap and move down to switch between windows, 3 finger tap and move up to open my computer and side and bottom scroll. I think those are all the new ones...

They all work wonderfully too. Better than the current current ones. But i also am not willing to sacrifice the stability. Almost, but not quite.

Asked this question a while back with no answers from anyone... as you can see in the picture, ALL of the modes 'say' Super Hybrid Engine... my guess is that means SHE is on anytime you are running P4G... but unsure

I'm assuming this is the same driver, but it may be easier for some to download.
ElanTech Touchpad Driver v 8.0.7.0 - TechSpot Drivers

Asus does not work on Elantech drivers - they simply provide the link on their support website.
Also, Elantech touchpad drivers will still be updated, likely until they reach their final, stable version.

Okay. I just installed it. What can I say? I'm a sucker for new updates. Just can't resist them.

The extra gestures are good so far. I like the pinch & zoom. Very nice.

I see that extra ElnTech tab in the mouse options and I'm avoiding the left one.

Thanks for the heads-up on that. :eek2:

maybe the extra tab is from the old driver? the way i see it, maybe it's the old and new driver conflicting with one another during wake up?

as much as i'd love to get the new features and show my mac-loving friend who's boss, i gotta keep this work comp in tip top shape, so stability is number 1.

on another notes, i've flashed my bios to the newest version and installed newest nvidia optimus driver, no problems there. it even has a built-in function to let you see if the GPU is on or not.

and to the person asking about the SHE stuff... i got no clue. i need to research what SHE does in the first place

Have used the 'new' drivers for a few days and still appear 100% stable... sleep, wake, etc... and it nearly eliminates all jumping for me, so it works MUCH better (for me) than the official release, not even counting the new gestures. As far as the tabs... for me, both have the new driver number and it doesn't seem to matter which I click on... the first I click on works OK... but clicking on the second (right or left) crashes the window. Weird.

Shotgun has installed them successfully on a U35JC with no issues when waking up from sleep. I am curious to hear how he installed them or if he did anything special. The drivers work great and its a shame to lose them with every wake.

I have been running the new touchpad drivers with no problems for several days now. To install the drivers I first uninstalled the old ones the re-booted and ran the setup.exe from the elan/seven_x64 directory. I have only one driver listed under my mouse drivers.

I just rolled back to the original drivers. I then uninstalled them. Upon reboot, Windows automatically re-installed them though. I decided to install the new drivers. I re-boot again and it works as usual. Put it to sleep, then woke it up and it still loses the functionality. :(

I do have the stock U35JC... installed when I saw the post on this forum the day it was posted. I would love to say I did something 'special' installing... but I truly just downloaded and installed... did not remove previous version nor anything else. My windows installation is factory... ie. I did not do a clean install or anything... not certain if that matters. Only other thing I can think of is I DID install 7.0.13 from the driver folder on the Asus web site. If you look, the top three versions are .12, then .13 then .12 again. the .13 seemed to be smoother so I installed it. Only reason I bring that up is maybe the .13 added something. still has worked seemingly flawlessly for me except for the tab issue under the mouse control panel previously mentioned.

To see startup programs run msconfig.

Where did you find 7.0.13 drivers? For me on the drivers site there are only .9 and .12.
