I'm having issues with punkbuster and nvidia (games like BF2 and BF:BC2).
Is anyone else having them?
-
I have the U35J and I too am having the same problem with Punkbuster while playing BF2.
-
I haven't found any solutions. Aparently this is caused by some issues with nvidia optimus which punkbuster sees as 2 runing videocards or something like that. Nvidia SHOULD BE solving this in the next 2 weeks: Optimus issues with Punkbuster - NVIDIA Forums - Page 14
But I do not trust them. -
Finally opened and run u35jc for a day or so. Mine shipped with 208 bios. Upadted with 8gb ram and intel x-25m 120g ssd. Did a clean install. System definitely a slittle bit faster. Battery time is bit extended comparing with stock system.
There is option in bios related to overclocking, it has "turbo" and "normal" options. Anybody knows if one can play this combining with softfsb to get some o/c out of i3-370m? -
can you give an accurate reading of how much better your system have been after upgraded it with 8gb of ram and ssd?

Anyone help a notebook noob?
Trying to game a bit, and find some of the games a bit laggy (I know this is not a gaming laptop).
What is the prefer settings when you wanna game?
Is it:
- SHE off + High Performance mode on? -
Short answer is 'yes'. With the new version of P4G hybrid, you don't even independently control SHE... just select high performance mode. Also ensure your NVidia drivers are updated and obviously make sure it is turning on! With the more recent NVidia drivers a toolbar widget installs that shows you when the 310M GPU is active. Assuming you are High Performance and GPU is on, that is as good as it gets. Some have talked about overclocking the GPU using the NVidia software... but assuming you are a noob... that is probably not a good idea. As you said, this is an ultraportable 13" with some 3d gfx capes... not a gaming laptop. Frankly you can get alot more gaming power out of a cheaper machine if weight/battery life are not a concern. But if you travel with it and live on battery for school, business, etc... it is an awesome compromise of weight/battery life/power

Hi all,
if im format the c drive, will the expressgate gone forever?
because i want to upgrade to windows 7 pro and install it fresh. thanks. -
Gone forever on the hard drive, yes. But you can simply go to the asus support site and download expressgate and it'll be back.
FYI, the asus site also provides most of the up-to-date drivers/utilities if not all since it'll be useful if you encounter missing drivers. -
Thanks for your useful help

Hi all , i want to buy an U35 .
but i cant find any U35 with I5-520M & 8cell Battery with Silver Color ?!
there are some i5-450M but i want 520M . why !?

does keyboard Flex is very Intolerable ? -
It is available on Amazon in the USA. I don't notice any appreciable flex at all... and I type pretty aggressively. Others have complained of it however.
-
anyone here got the momentus XT with U35? i just dont feel nothing stellar using it ... controller maybe? i remember that i read a member talking about that here in the forum.
-
How about LCD crack issue ?! Is it delicate LCD and must be handled carefully ?
-
Again, no issues here... I have traveled extensively with mine and am actually typing this from Iraq... and I have noticed no concerning flex nor any monitor 'rigidity' issues.
-
I was an early adopter of the U35JC in North America. Ive owned the machine for about 4-5 months (since August - September).
My LCD cracked while in its protective neoprene case, inside my messenger bag on my trip home from college. The fracture was due to me lying on my bag while sitting on a soft coach bus seat (very light pressure considering the padding in place) The bag had nothing sharp or rigged in it, just my pencils, index cards and the laptop itself. The laptop was not dropped, bumped, or physically harmed in any way to warrant a cracked LCD which was why i was so shocked when i uncovered it. There is no evidence of damage anywhere, no dents or scratches. The LCD crack was internal (no scratches on the exterior plastic LCD)
The LCD flexes quite easily when held at its base right below the bottom bezel. In my experience the LCD on the thin U35JC is fairly weak and would not endure any sort of mild-hard pressure when applied at the correct spots. Be careful when handling. -
did you repair your LCD ?!
final question : does it have very warm palm rest and its getting to hot !? -
It just arrived at Fremont,CA today for accidental warranty repair
The laptop is cool when using the intel GPU but can get toasty when gaming for long periods especially with shader intensive games under the nvidia GPU. The palmrest however generally does not get super hot, meaning it does not get that much above body temperature. However the underbelly of the laptop can get quite hot under stress.
However, heat is generally not a problem with normal usage. -
Would the guys here take the Asus over the similar HP DM3/DM4 ?
-
Has anyone got their hands on the U31 yet? I like the specs, but it seems the battery is a bit weaker. I'm also curious about the problems that the U35 has (keyboard, whine)!

I can't connect with the wireless network card. I've tried 3 different networks. One home and two public at my university. If i choose the open network at my uni it connects to network but i get no internett access, the same thing happened at the home network.
If I try to connect through the secured network at school, where I use my regurlar username and password i get a windows notification saying the network is not secure or something and it won't connect.
I'm starting to suspect something is wrong with the wireless network card. I'm not supposed to use the microsoft virtual one right? I use atheros only. -
Hi Felip. Yes, I have the Momentus XT 500GB HDD. Nothing stellar in its performance. Boot up is half the time and programs load a bit faster (30%?), but when Word 2007 normally opens for me in 5 sec the first time and 1.5-2 sec after that on a normal HDD, the Momentus' 30% faster is hardly noticeable (3 sec the first time and 1 sec instead of 1.5 sec for the remaining times.)
I'm considering doing a fresh install as I moved it over as a disk image from my old HDD.
The Momentus XT is no SSD, but no one ever said it was. -
Do you know if there are specs available anyplace on these 31 series units?
-
Hi i brought the same laptop and a intel x25-m 80gb ssd, how did you install windows 7 on it i tried using the asus recovery dvd's but after i recover it just says missing operating system on boot, would it be best to install from a original windows 7 disc and install the drivers later?
-
Just got my new U35 a few days ago. I have been uninstalling all the bloatware and disabling some startup programs. Basically all I have done on the laptop so far. So today I try and change the volume using the fn+f11/f12 keys but it won't work. Anyone have any idea whats going on?
-
It seems that you've removed the ATK drivers too. Install them again from the Asus support site. They are called "ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities".
-
I tested out a new u35jc for a few weeks. Initially I was quite disappointed with the computer: battery life, gaming performance, screen. But after some overclocking I am beginning to like the computer more. However, the bad screen is really annoying, I am trying to decide if it is a deal breaker or not. I cant see anything if i'm not at the "sweet spot" which is minimal and hard to find. Do you guys have the same problem with the screen?

Picked up the U35 from Amazon. Got Crysis Warhead from Steam on sale. I am getting 20 FPS with decent quality settings. Here is my overclocking experience:

734, 795, 1730+ was the max I could overclock with 3DMark06, but Crysis actually ran slower. So I (arbitrarily) backed it down to 704, 785, 1675 for a 15% boost. One shortcut jumps up the clock, another resets to stock.
I am liking my little guy. -
Yup, the viewing angles are terrible. You definitely must hook a proper LCD Monitor for serious work. But unfortunately that's the case with many LED backlit laptop screens.
-
Not sure how you could be unhappy with the battery life, given the size/power... not certain there are any out there that do better in actual usage. As far as the screen... I think it is the 'weakest' component of the system. I feel the 'sweet spot' vertical viewing angle is PAINFULLY narrow... but properly adjusted I think it is as good as most. Annoying at times... definitely... 'deal breaker' for me... absolutely not. I think if you had the need/desire to allow multiple folks to view at the same time and/or had a unique constraint on display angle, it quickly could become a deal breaker... but if you have no constraints and don't care about others viewing it... it is pretty much a non-issue.

where are you guys sending your accidental warranty registration? I sent my card in and it keeps getting returned back to me.

Hey, i'm new to these forums, and i've ordered my first laptop, the u36jc and it should be coming soon! I own a desktop and am knowledgeable about computers, however I cant seem to find instructions on how to replace the HDD of u35jc or u36jc with a SSD. Can i get at the hard drive from the back panel behind the ram? or do i have to go in from the keyboard, and if so, how do you get the keyboard off? Thanks!
I just want to know which side to open and how difficult it is for you u35jc users who have already replaced or opened up yours
It seems pretty painless and easy from reading the posts, but noone seems to have specified how they replaced it.
-
I have the U35JC and there is a panel on the bottom with a cylinder inscribed next to it. Unscrew that and the HDD is right underneath. Easy to get to and switch. =) Pretty sure it will be the same on the U36.
-JFlem -
No, unfortunately you have to pretty much disasaemble it. --> ASUS PRO36JC MediaMarkt Angebot - Forum de Luxx
-
Hmm, it seems Poma is right. I looked into it more and there is only access to the RAM on the bottom. You have to delve much deeper to get to the HDD. Sorry for my assumption!

Hello everyone. I haven't been on this thread for a while and i'm wondering if there has been a fix on the jumpy touchpad. Maybe an alternative touchpad driver to the very crappy elantech one?
-
Im not quite sure what happened to the colors on my screen. Today I just noticed that all the colours are washed out and saturated, its not like this normally and I didn't even change any graphics settings. Anyone know what possibly happened? The only possible reason I think this happened is because I unplugged the secondary monitor I attach my laptop to from the power source to relocate it to another room. Once I plugged it back in I am receiving this problem:
-Image on the Secondary screen is washed out and too bright, image quality loses a lot of detail
-If laptop is attached the image quality on the laptop is perfectly normal, once I unplug the secondary screen the laptop image quality changes to that of the secondary which looks really nasty
EDIT: Apparently this color issue only shows up when I designate a screen(either the built in one or the external) as the primary monitor. The monitor when both is attached that is not set as the primary shows up perfectly fine. But still want to know what could I have possibly accidentally touched/adjusted so I can have my screens back to normal.
EDIT: Wow, its amazing what a reboot can do. Case closed. -
Can someone briefly tell me what exactly does overclocking mean and do? Is it necessary?

New video drivers launched today from NVIDIA : VERDE NOTEBOOK RELEASE 265
NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL
So far, I have been running for a month version 260.99 with bios 208 without any issues on my U35jc.
There doesn't seem to be much improvement (if any) to the 310M chip on this new release, so who wants to give a shot and report benchmark results vs 260.99? -
Just came back from china where on the 14 hour flight had to use my U35 and the power supply as a body wamer. I set the computer to the Bios screen for at least 8 hours (BIOS pulls ~45% constant cpu power, didn't have a cpu burn program installed). I put the computer and power supply between my and the arm rest to my left and the hot chinese girl next to me. Turns out the system got pretty hot with no ventillation and survived an 8 hour heat test with no issues.
-
what optimus drivers are most of you using?
-
Installed a Corsair F90 in my u35jc and have been running it for the past week. Load speeds are incredibly fast, especially for Adobe Creative Suite applications. Instant sleep and wake, 5 sec wake from hibernation.
Battery life has improved about 12% for normal use on Battery Mode. -
Hey everyone, I recently read the review for the ASUS U45 and I'm pretty sure this will apply to the U35 as well. The reviewer said that the screen isn't all that great. Are there any users out there that can confirm this? How was your experience with the screen quality of the U35/U45? And is there a way to adjust the screen settings such as brightness contrast, etc.? Thanks!
-
I dont know if the dynamic range is greater, but i keep feeling that there is a color cast, a bluish tint to the screen. Anyone wanna buy mine?

Hey guys i want to reinstall windows on my u35jc-a1 using a flash drive. I can't see boot device priority in bios (like my desktop pc) to set the usb drive as a first boot device. I haven't tried to boot from the usb drive yet, but i want to ask in advance, is there something i should change in bios or it is ready to boot from flash drive by default?
And one more question...I haven't updated my BIOS. Should I update it and what are the benefits of the latest bios version

-
You first have to plug the flash drive & reboot then enter bios before you can see it in the bios. From then on (assumed that you have created a bootable windows USB drive), you can select the USB drive as your boot drive (first drive), save, exit bios. install and have fun.
-
In the Save & Exit section of the BIOS you have the Selection Menu. There you select the device you want your system to instantly boot from. The USB drive will appear but you must plug it before a restart or powering on your computer.
I have BIOS 208, hope the section mentioned is still there for older versions.
Cheers! -
10x for the answers
And one more question
Is there a software, that shows which GPU is running?
