I think the figures are in Singapore dollars. It is already on preorder in Singapore for delivery in early April. I think that the 3820TG and the UL30JT are really different machines. The UL30JT uses the lower powered I core CPU's so, it should have superior battery power but be less powerful. The problem with the UL30JT is that it has taken so long to get to market that even Dell has a metal clad machine with similar stats Ix/310M coming on the market this month (Vostro 3300). It was an exciting design when it was anounced but the competition is catching up or, in some cases, surpassing it.

I had no idea why you refer to the Acer as a technological abortion. The highpowered I5/I7/HD5650 combination makes perfect sense (Sony Z) and will probably make the Acer the best performing 13" unit on the market. At least for now.

I have a small Acer 1410 that I use as a travel unit and it is a fine little device. I would buy another Acer in a heartbeat.

He means that it is premature to call something the "UL30JT killer" when the UL30JT hasn't even been "born" yet. Thus the tech "abortion" comment. That wasn't clear to me on the first read either.

Lol. Let's just say the 5650 runs circles around the 310. The 5650 is closer to 335m. Better in some games, worse in others.

I heard that taxes and stuff are pretty darn high over there and that if converted to USD (minus all the extra taxes and stuff) it would be <$1k USD

Ok, spoke to an Asus rep today. He said that starting price will be $950-965. And availibiity around end of April-May 2010.

If this is true, I'd be willing to wait.

according to ATI website, their "switchable graphics" means discrete graphics when plugged in the AC adaptor and onboard when unplugged. unless they changed/upgraded this i'll stay with my desktop if i have to stay plugged in to use the good graphics card.

Wow the ati graphics card is much better! Hmmm weight almost 4 lbs and battery says 12 hours from description but 8 hours on specifications...I wonder if the acer will make it's way to north America. Or is there no issue with different voltages if u buy overseas?

That does look like a pretty slick deal. Too bad it's USA only...

So this thought just came to my mind and I'm too lazy to google the answer to it. Is is possible to undervolt Intel CULV CPUs? Or is would it not go any lower since it's already "ultra low voltage"? It'd be wicked if you could undervolt that baby and get EVEN MORE battery life out of it.

The SU9400 in my 3810t runs at .8750V via RM Clock, aka it is undervolted. But for Core i processors, RM Clock does not work with them.

it's not fair ahah, Canadian dollars is practically 1 to 1 with US now and it's still rising. We still pay well over $100 for the same products. Grrr. Alienware m11x for example costs me $200 more in Canada than US for the same spec'd system. US gets the custom engraving too :(

Here's news, Acer is putting the low voltage I5 in an 11.6" netbook (the 1810T). If the UL30JT takes any longer to get to market there will be an 11.6" netbook with faster processing and a better graphics card. :p C'mon Asus release this notebook already and the N82 while you're at it. How many VT's do you need to sell? :p

This isn't news related to the JT, but I found this interesting:

    UL30VT-A1 - $794.55
    UL30VT-X1 - $749.99
    UL30A-A2 - $700.32

These are the absolute lowest prices they have been on Amazon since their debut...

Let's hope the JT pre-order debut is imminent!

    Oh what...really? That really sucks...*sigh*...

But I guess the promised battery life of UL30JT and 3820T/TG is good enough that it's not an issue for me. The only thing I'm worried about is if I get the 3820T/TG, it might get quite hot and in my experience, RMClock significantly reduces the temperature...it's really too bad.

General question about the 'i' processors...

So there are going to be notebooks with normal i3,5,7 and some with the ulv i3,5,7

Where do all of these compare with each other in terms of performance?

Asus seems to be putting turbo options on the i5 and i7 for both normal and ulv... do the i3 models get any kind of overclock feature?

I am waiting for the U30jc, which looks like will be available in a week or so... but it has the normal i3. I was wondering how this would compare to the UL30jt with the ulv-i7? I know the battery life is the primary difference but what about processing power. If I get 4+ hours of normal usage of the U30jc I'll be happy, but it's tough to wait for the U30jc since I need something soon...

I'm pretty sure the ULV i7 is the same as standard i7 in terms of amount of processing per cycle. Same goes for i3/i5 vs ULV i3/i5. So if you just compare the frequency difference you will get an idea about the difference in performance.

    For example:
    i7 620M: 2.66Ghz - 3.33Ghz, 4MB L3 cache, 2x256KB L2 cache
    i7 620UM:1.06Ghz - 2.13Ghz, 4MB L3 cache, 2x256KB L2 cache

The only difference other than frequency is that the standard voltage supports 1066Mhz DDR3 whereas the ULV only supports 800Mhz DDR3

    See wikipedia

So for the top end frequencies: (i7 620UM [2.13Ghz])... that is with turbo boost enabled?

It would seem the normal i3 would beat out the frequency for the turbo boosted i7 correct? (i3 350M = 2.26Ghz, i7 620UM with boost = 2.13Ghz)

I wonder if there is any kind of overclock for the i3

If the U30JC pans out it will really be an awsome Laptop. If you compare the i3-350M and i5-520UM you will find the i3 has no turb frequency. Asus is claiming Turbo33 just as it did to the SU7300's. So 33% increase on the base 2.26 GHz is 3.00 GHz. If this is true it will be one very powerfull laptop............

Where did you see the Turbo33 for the i3 model? I only saw it for the i5 system... The photo from http://zedomax.com/blog/2010/01/08/asus-u30jc-hands-on-review-at-ces-2010/ says "i5 only"

A version is Silver, Bigger Battery, Bigger HDD, More Fingerprint Resistant (because of the color)

X version is Glossy Black, Smaller Battery, Smaller HDD, Less Fingerprint Resistant
