Fujitsu has the i7-640UM offered in this Ultra-Portable: http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=P770

And Lenovo X201s uses the i7-620LM/i7-640LM which isn't CULV, but it's in between M and UM.

Are those the U.S. prices? I see "without GST" under there so, I'm guessing no... $1,550 is way out of my budget for the 3820.

*Edit* Nevermind, just saw Singapore in the top left... Are the American release dates going to be the same?

The Fujitsu configs suck with only integrated graphics and small, slow 160 gb hdd and to put the icing on the cake they cost $1650 and $1950!!!!

Thats the plan :) , but I really don't want to cross the 1k mark. If it means that the laptop will take 5 secs instead of 3 secs to perform an operation then ill just have to live with it :)

You can preorder now from the Singapore website and they ship out on April 12th.

Hopefully the US/Canada preorder will be available this week!

Hopefully we get Turbo33, from the CES ad stand it is on the UL80JT i5-520UM. Does the Acer do Turbo33? You may want to hold out a bit. BTW this was screen shot from the ad stand between the UL30JT and U30JC video...........

Edit; sorry had to add my 2 cents...........

We are doing you all a favor by keeping this thread ALIVE. Asus havent release anything on its release date/price/specs. This thread was dead for awhile. we kept it alive by comparing UL30JT to Acer 3820gt. You should thank us.

I have no problem comparing a speculative machine with another speculative machine. Knowing Asus's machines track records and the possibility of Turbo33, in addition to Intel's Turbo Boost, I'd hold out for the Asus machines..........

I wasn't recommending either laptop, I was only answering this post:

I was just showing that Fujitsu did have a i7-640UM in a laptop for sale. I know that there is some "toughbook" (I think it's a panasonic?) that also has either the i7-620UM or i7-640UM. And Lenovo has the X201s with the i7-640LM processor. That's all I know of that have the i7 UM or LM.

And yes, I agree with you that the Fujitsus all seem overpriced.

2010 - The year of i5 notebooks aplenty and Nvidia Optimus!

I'm waiting for this baby myself! The UL30JT places itself smack in competition against the MSI X360. Lenovo pretty much conceded the high performance 13" laptop market by choosing to add 14" and 15" versions of the Thinkpad Edge line without including i5/discrete options for the 13er." I don't see too many other potential contenders joining the field except maybe Acer with its new Timeline series.

While the Dell Vostro 3300 may have its shortcomings, it is clearly aimed at the same market as the UL30JT with its I5-310M combo. The big difference is that you can actually buy the Dell. :D

Oh and the Sony S too = 310M GPU and Icore processor. In fact, Best Buy has the new Z at $1,699 now. With Bing cash back you can buy it for $1,500 and its available too. Time is passing this JT by.

But Dell Vostro 330 battery life and weight doesn't compare to the UL30s. It is well designed though, but pricey.

Is there any laptop avalaible now with ICore CPUs and offering 8h+ of battery life ?

Lenovo only has Core 2 ultraportables. Standard laptops, nothing extraordinary from these laptops.
Dell Core i5 but not really ultraportable.
Acer I prefer to forget it.
Asus only Core 2, but offering an incredible value.

Yeah that's right. I don't think you can compare every i5/i7 notebook with a 310m GPU in 13" format to the UL30JT. The big advantage is the battery life and the weight. That's why you have to sacrifice some CPU and GPU power, but get a serious Notebook that survives Transcontinental flight.
BTW I'll probably by the UL30VT now from Amazon. I have to leave overseas End of April and need a NB till then.

Well, at the price it's selling right now, I don't think we can make a mistake by buying the VT. Sure, the CPU inside it is not recent, but I expect the JT to be over 1000 $ at its release. We have seen in 3 months or so a price drop of almost 150 $ for the VT after its release...

For me, the [speculated] battery life on the UL30Jt makes it the winner. The 3820TG looks really nice (especially the gpu -- directX 11 == tesselation), but under load it looks as though it will only eek out 2 hours on integrated graphics (and that's with the 33% larger battery). If the UL30JT performs similar to the UL30VT, then under load it should still comfortably handle a full day.

I truly despise having to plug-in when my 'moblie computer', and 2 hours of life makes it feel as though I'm working against the clock! Not needing to pack a cord is truly a beautiful thing! Just a spare battery in my lappie bag, pick up the computer and go -- free of worry and ready for anything.

In short, the better battery life is more attractive to me than some additional PCMark/3DMark points. Of course, I seldom game, so I appreciate the general preference of the 3820 for this type of consumer.

Of course, I'll still wait to read the reviews before making my mind up as to which I like more ;)

I'm also curious how much of a benefit the turbo33 will have on the processor speed...

As far as I read the A1 features Bluetooth but just has 100MBit LAN. Correct me if I'm wrong. But that would probably be a question for the UL30 Owners Lounge.

Where did you get that number from? I have never heard of any estimate for only 2 hours on integrated graphics for the 3820TG. Do you still have the links? I would really like to read that.

Maybe I just am not sure what you mean about "under load." The UL30Vt & UL30Jt battery life is listed as up to 12hrs & 10hrs respectively & I have seen numbers of ~3-4 hours for UL30Vt with dedicated graphics turned on. Are they running Prime to force 100% CPU utilization or something?

I checked the Asus Facebook fan page and found the post mentioned but saw no reply from Asus. Did they remove it or am I missing something? If that really was posted, let's hope there is some merit to it.

Two weeks would feel like tomorrow if it is really true. We've been waiting months with no word from Asus. JUST MAKE IT OFFICIAL!

Also, in this Facebook group someone asked:
"Any word on when the UL30JT will be released? Theres been no word since CES2010 and the wait is becoming unbearable. i need a new laptop and may have to go with another manufacturer if there's still no news or even a confirmation of a release by the end of the month."

    Asus replied:
"As stated before the ul30jt article posted from ces had wrong information. The unit below that was talked about is the u30jc a different model which is what the model that was supposed to be the ul30jt that everyone is thinking about."

So that would means more waiting for UL30JT.
I am going to give up and go for 3820TG or Vostro 3400
    Since I need esata.

No, the JT exists. It was in the official Asus March magazine seen in this forum a few dozen pages ago. Here's the link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=465353

And based on what the Asus rep said on Facebook, we CAN expect a release date/pricing in a couple weeks for all of the models listed in that magazine. This is the first real lead we've had for a release date. Good news! I can wait a couple weeks and then do a real comparison between the JT and the Acer 3820TG.

Hmm, can a couple of weeks be 8 weeks? Or is a couple more like 2 weeks? I just hope a couple doesn't mean 2 months again for a release date which could then be another month away.

Also in that magazine how come the UL30JT has a i7 option while the UL80JT only has the i5 option. I thought the UL80JT was just a 14" version with an optical drive.

Couple of weeks?! Ah ah !!! Keep dreaming !

A couple of weeks before PRE-ODER, maybe. But don't expect to have it in your hands before the beginning of May or even at the end of May.

Asus is good for releasing their laptops at the end of the expected month .... I would not surprised to see the JT released for pre-ordering on April 30.

And then, at what price ? I expect it to be over 1000 $. New technology has a price. I prefer to pay 1000 $ for a UL30VT and a SSD in it for 10 % less CPU performance but an increase in global speed.

This is exactly what I am trying to decide. I'm also leaning towards getting an SSD for my next laptop, so I have to decide if the price that the UL30JT or the Acer 3820TG come out at, plus the cost of the SSD, go past my budget. If they are much north of $1000 I will probably stick with the VT and get the Intel X25-M Gen 2 160GB.

The Above is from the ASUS Facebook fan page.
Does that mean that information that they plan to release "shortly" is for another model and that announcement would exclude any information about the UL80JT? I hope I am wrong....

sorry p0int, looks like the ice caps may just melt before the launch of the UL30JT.

Its looking to be that way. In that case I might as well go with the U30JC thats being released in 2 weeks, a lb heavier but at least i get an optical drive. Although i think that only the i3 model (lowest end) of the U30JC is being released. Im sure the culprit for all these delayed releases is Intel with their i7/i5 chip shortages.

I change my previous prediction and give UL30JT an early summer 2010 release.

Well, I made the move guys. UL30VT-A1 and Intel X25-V SSD 40 GB ordered from Bestdirect.com. 1100 $ CND with taxes and air shipping by Purolator. Buying it from the US was about the same price as I pay (taxes, duties.....).

Anyways, I wouldn't have get a JT with SSD for that price. I won't regret it.

    Thanks to all !
