also the pl30jt http://www.shopbot.com.au/m/?m=pl30jt
http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=pl30jt&spos=3
someone should call penta and see if they actually have them in stock. not me though.
-
Ugh. Same basic specs:
PL30Jt
CPU: Intel i5-520UM 1.06G (Turbo 1.86G)/3M
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1066 2G x 2
HDD: 500GB 5400rpm
ODD
BT 2.1
BATTERY: 8 Cell / 2800mAh
LCD: 13.3" LED 1366 x 768
VGA: NV GT310M
VRAM: 1G
CAM: 0.3M
OS: Win7 Pro 64bit
Except that now they've ADDED the DVD drive for those NOT wanting the weight, and slowed it down with the ULV i5-520UM ... oh, and charge more.
My opinion? Either get the UL30Jt if you don't want the DVD drive or get the U30Jc if you DO want a DVD drive, classy chassis and a faster i3 processor.
What happened to the 1.3MP webcam ASUS was putting in ALL of their lower-end netbooks??
And what's with these puny 2800mAh batteries? Just for Australia?
Again, weird. -
Wait the pl30jt has a dvd drive now? NICE. SLOWED it down with the ULV i5-520UM?? I thought that's what it was always supposed to have along with the UL30JT. Also I always expected the PL30JT/UL30JT to have the 2800mAh batteries and 0.3MP webcam. Am I missing something here?
-
WHAT? you sure?
all the specs say optical > NA I thought PL30JT was the exact same version as UL30JT except for the matte screen and finish. that's just balls.. if it has optical and is heavier and thicker.. and says webcam > YES tho it didn't say what it was..
btw, PL30jt isn't listed in KOREA, tho UL30JT is listed as "black" I would assume they are calling PL30JT and Ul30JT SAME over there, around $1400 AUD. maybe they just sell black version.. no idea what the HELL is going on.. but it's made by ASUS china is that different? or do they only have one source?
btw, some of the review says they already have it..so.... i guess it's out over there..
http://mall.shinsegae.com/item/item.do?method=viewItemDetail&item_id=12769102&ckwhere=enuri
Australia is a little bit overpriced I reckon.. -
Well, I mean slowed it down compared to the U33Jc I linked to a page back. The U33Jc in Australia appears to have an i5-430M (2.26GHz) Easily TurboBoosted to 2.53GHz and perhaps boosted further by Turbo33, if ASUS provides for it.
The UL30Jt is to have the i5-520UM as well, I think. Will the UL30Jt come with that shrimpy 2800 mAh battery as well??! Where did you hear that? Yuck!
UrbanGlow, if you want a DVD drive, 5600 mAh battery and a faster i3 processor, why not get the U30Jc? -
That's what I was thinking too. I really want the PL model for the matte screen. But if it's a lot more than the UL I'll just go for the UL30JT. Also if the optical drive adds bulk I'll get whatever doesn't have it.
$1400 AUD?? Australian prices are always a lot more than USD right? How much do you guys think it'll be in the states. More than $1000? -
Yeah but I always considered the U33JC to be a higher end bamboo model. This doesn't surprise me.
-
Well if it's going to add bulk, I would prefer it not to have it. But if they can manage to put one in without adding bulk like the Sony Vaio Z (which I doubt) then I would be happy
-
I haven't seen any that lists PL30JT with an optical.. I don't think PL30jt has an optical.. I hate glossy screen.. I am going to email the korean place and get it from them I think..it's $1400 AUD.. roughly.. cheaper and comes with 5600batt I think.. seems like they already have it too..
their model number for UL30JT is
UL30JT-RX010V(black)
australian staticice.com.au has PL30JT as
PL30JT-RO025X
UL30JT isn't even listed in staticice.com.au so looks like PL30JT is coming out first? or maybe it's just a variation and is called differently in different regions? PL30JT isn't listed in korean sites too.. it's so confusing.. -
You're probably right.
Two of the sites listed it WITH a DVD drive. One listed it with an external DVD drive, and two sites listed it with NO DVD drive. The rest didn't say one way or the other. -
I bet the stores are just as confused as we are..
hahahaha FFS...
but looks like it doesn't have optical..PL30JT I mean.. I think Asus stuffed up the naming for these notebooks and actually is selling ONLY ONE notebook in silver and black.
as if a country has ul30jt they don't have pl30jt..and if they have pl30jt they don't have ul30jt.. but have blacks and silvers. well from korea and australia at least. -
Yeah I doubt the PL or UL will have an optical drive. There are so many times where websites will forget details or misprint them when it comes to specifics. If they have the same specs that were listed when they were first announced in Jan, I'll be happy. But I would prefer the PL with the matte screen.
-
What I listed was just a cut & paste. Two of the listed Australian sites listed the PL30Jt as having an optical drive (ODD).
I'd think that's a mistake in the ads. Doesn't make sense to me.
The U33Jc, maybe, as the U30Jc has an ODD. -
yeah for sure..and probably got mixed up with PL80JT as well.. since they have optical.
-
Here's what ASUS has to say about it:
PL30Jt (NO DVD drive)
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=LXkdJbGNlUNZJ1lu
U33Jc (DVD drive ?)
No info yet on their page
Aussie page:
http://www.barnsaustralia.com.au/product/i/496423.html
UL30Jt
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=dh1loes9V1IGKwCA -
if it's not listed you can pretty much assume it's not there. sellers always list everything as they "think" it's a advantage for their product.
-
I didn't realize this before but the PL looks slightly different from the UL. I thought they were identical except for the matte vs glossy screen and the touchpad, but the inputs on the side are arranged differently. Also, is it me or does the PL look a little thicker than the UL?
-
I agree. So what are they listing there in Australia? Vaporbooks or what?
-
No, the size specs on the UL & PL appear the same.
But I think both the PL (business model with satellite tracking of the notebook) and the U33 (bamboo model) should be more expensive than the UL30Jt.
We'll see. -
OK. Cool. Still surprised they look different though. With specs being nearly identical, you'd think they'd use the same frame.
-
hmm... PL30JT = 2KG.... stated on those given URLs above.
-
I doubt that's reliable. It even says (4 cell) right next to the weight. Then at the top of the same sheet it says it has an 8 cell. I think they're confused.
-
They're confused? Join the club!
-
I think even ASUS is confused.. don't think they even know what the hell is going on or what's called what.. I am going to order Ul30JT black from korean site tonight/tomorrow. Will see what comes of it.
-
But isn't the Korean one a LOT more expensive? Or are you from Australia? I'm in the states so I'm definitely waiting. I saw in the past that the VT was around $1300-1400 in Australia when it first came out and ended up being $800-900 in the states. It seems like a similar situation here.
-
Yeap I am in sydney but going to korea in 2 weeks!! haha.. so I will get whatever is cheaper but looks like USA will be cheapest tho. the thing is U30JC is listed here for $1500.. and it's only $900.. despite 1 AUD = .925 USD so it should be more like $1000AUD but then again it never works out like that.
I hope the PL30JT/UL30JT comes out quick in the states, maybe I will wait for it a bit too, now that u mention it.. if it's under $1000..USD.. I could probably save $300~ish easy..
damn you Asus -
Exactly. It is crazy how much more expensive it is there. I am hearing that it will come out in Europe on May 1st. I don't know about the US though. I am getting very impatient.
-
asus website is stupid..
:S took me ages to find the bleeding PL30JT and UL30JT..
the spec is SAME identical, yet the picture is different
the softwares are different andbut everything else is identical..even the screen.. how stupid.
feels more like it's ONLY cheaper in USA.. I thought it was going to be roughly 1k euro.. which would be about $1.5K AUD.. but doesn't = USD price though.
I am travelling in two weeks.. i need to buy a notebook soon..otherwise I am screwed..
-
If anybody can find a review of the fujitsu P770 with benchmarks, we are able to see how good the new I-core ULV's are. I haven't been able to find one but maybe some of you guys can?
-
is the u30jc really going to be $1500? could you please link me if there is a link? also one thing you should probably look out for is the power plug could possibly be in another shape because when i went to japan the metal parts on the plug were 2 vertical ones instead of 2 diagonal and 1 vertical on the ones we have.
-
power plug is different depending on the regions..
korea has two round ones.. USA has two vertical and sometimes..middle..
we really have weird looking one in AUS..
also the Power is diff regionally too.. 110V~220V... but that doesn't matter as the adaptor on notebooks automatically converts them.
www.staticice.com.au type U30JC
one place lists them at $1500 -
Crap, I just noticed the price for the UL30JT i posted earlier was without VAT. So it's the same price as at the earlier mentioned site, that is 7500 ddk and hence 60% more than the UL30VT. Looks like it's going to be quite expensive.
-
how much is u30JC listed there?
-
You can't buy the U30JC in Denmark.
-
The power cord coming out of my U30Jc adaptor is of the standard plug-in type, so getting a matching cord for your country should be easy.
As well, adaptor wall plugs are available in most countries. -
Being in Australia, we always get shafted in terms of prices (but sometimes Dell gives us higher specced models). I wouldn't read too much into Australian prices for a guide on how much they would cost in the US.
-
I wouldn't put too much credibility in the specs listed by Aussie retailers. Asus Australia isn't the most reliable/knowledgeable source of information.
-
I wonder if your import tax is higher on items like electronics. It's certainly that way in several of the Middle Eastern countries. PC's & parts can be hit with a 150-200% import tax which ups the price on resell.
The UK/England's import tax on cars, while I was there, was higher than in Ireland, so some of my friends were going over to Ireland to buy their car. -
The suspense of when this thing is coming out is too much!
-
Is this supposed to come out before the UL80JT?
Its taking forever and Im not sure it ever will at this pace. -
No, laptops in Australia have 10% GST like everything else. The higher price is due to smaller volume of sales and that suppliers maximise profit at that price point.
-
I have several Australian friends (from living overseas) and I really like them as a nationality.
... but I'm glad I could buy my notebook here in the US! -
Yeah. And remember: The need to add custom keyboard layouts as well.
~~DukeP~~ -
Custom keyboard? Is the Australian keyboard not QWERTY? It's still English after all.
... of course, my British friends were fond of reminding me that we Americans spoke "a form" of English. -
Countries in the southern hemisphere are reversed. Q, A, and Z are on the right side and it reads to the left

Serious? I totally didnt notice this when I was over there. All I noticed was the blatant lack of wifi and internet access.
Edit: didnt read that u said the keyboard was backwards too
Thought it only read the QAZ are on the rightLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

ASUS this thread is dying... Help us... Please. Send us the UL30JT A.S.A.P
-
*Sigh*. And here I thought I was making valuable contributions to these penetrating discussions while you all bang your heads in frustration awaiting the release of the UL30Jt (some time in May?)
... he says while he contentedly types away on his at-hand U30Jc.
-
Yup, I was a huge fan of the UL30JT, but now I am thinking maybe the long delay is a blessing in disguise, because for me I really wanted the battery life and the small form factor but I was also concerned about the CPU not being powerful enough.
But seeing the new laptops that are being released with mobile i series processors and still having decent battery life, I think I may go that route instead of the CULV.
Although the new macbook 13" has a Core 2 Duo processor it doesn't look like the CULV version and has a decent graphics card and still manages to have great battery life and performance in what I would consider a small enough laptop. ( However due to the work I do, a mac would not be suitable, plus I really don't like Steve Jobs .. lol)
I may jump ship from the UL30JT to the u30JC. Although its a bit heavier and thicker, I am willing to sacrifice that for the extra CPU power, although I wish it was slightly cheaper though. I think $900 is a bit high for that notebook, but we will see how it goes.
Sorry for my rant, just though I would express my opinion.
