Hey guys, I wrote the review on noti.blog.hu. I have to return the UL30Jt on monday so until then feel free to ask about it, I will try to answer.
-
Have you tested any games? Is the battery life as bad as you stated in the review? Is it worth the jump from a UL30VT?
Thanks in advance... -
1) The cpu in the UL30JT is the Core i5 520UM?
2) What is the measured battery life w/ Nvidia card? Intel card?
3) No LED screen, right?
4) What do you think of the screen quality? Is it a good screen? Only one resolution option, right?
5) Is this released in Canada, yet?
6) No eSATA port? I doubt it but wondered if there's a usb/eSATa combined port but noted no mention of it in specs.
Thanks for any answers. -
About 4 hours with boost 33% and no optimus.. GPU accelerated flash using the intel GMA should reduce CPU load and enlongate battery life. Can you run the test without nvidia but with flash 10.1 beta? Could you try the test with nvidia?
Can you try to repeat the test without the asus boost33? Boost33 changes Vcore which significantly changes CPU power usage.
When performing battery tests could you test how long the device is to charge to 50% and 80% and 100%?
What is the win7 perfomance index score for cpu / overall?
Is it possible for you to repeat battery tests using an SSD (preferably intel) instead of the 640gb power monster?
Nice test (like the thermal images) but the battery tests are not of scientific grade.. Is the battery lithium polymer or lithium metal? Anyways these batteries have a running-in period before reaching maximum performance which might bias your results -
use the below to test the temp can?
IntelBurnTest, MSI_Kombustor, HW Monitor
hmm... can re benchmark again? thanks
-
"Have you tested any games? Is the battery life as bad as you stated in the review? Is it worth the jump from a UL30VT?"
I haven't.
Yes, the battery life is bad when Turbo Boost is on because it's running the cpu around 2 GHz if you do something, for example browsing etc., it doesn't have to be a cpu-heavy program. It's switching back to lower speeds instantly but even a flash banner can increase the cpu speed. You will find yourselft thinking 'what is eating my cpu' all the time.
If you already have an UL30Vt, I think you should stick with it. I'm thinking to buy one for myself. -
Could you do a CPU benchmark at standard setting vs. Core 2 Duo SU7300...?!?
Thanks -
that is if til have got both CPU at the same time which i reckoned almost not possible? hmm...

1) Yes, here is a picture of the BIOS: http://m.blog.hu/no/noti/image/IMG_0544.JPG Sorry for the quality, it's just an iPhone...
2) With Intel card.
3) The specification says it's LED backlight screen. I didn't disassembled it to confirm
4) The screen is a good one for a TN panel screen. Which means it's ok compared to an ISP panel screen. The native resolution is 1366x768.
5) I have no idea, I'm living in Hungary
6) No eSATA. -
wireless N? intel 6300 or Atheros? Windows WEI score have?
-
Intel + Flash 10.1
Turbo33 off
Charge test
I will do these and post the results.
Windows 7 index is of the CPU is 6.1. The lowest score is the graphics, it's only 3. If I force the Optimus to use the GeForce always, it's still 3.
About the SSD, I can't, I don't have one.
Thanks. I know the battery test isn't good enough. It's because originally I should have been returned the notebook by this week's monday. But it's still with me so... -
I was requesting for the Cpu Benchmark score of the just the Core i5 520UM...
Then we can compare it to SU7300 as we already have them...
til could you run a benchmark of the cpu by itself...
Cheers -
I don't have a notebook with SU7300 right now, sorry.
-
With the PassMark's CPU Benchmark? Sure.
-
It's Atheros AR9285 b/g/n. WEI screenshot soon.

These are with Turbo33 on, Turbo Boost on, Nvidia GeForce on. -
woah, kinda sad.
Single band @ up to 150Mbps max.
Powered by Google Docs -
Ok, but I can't make thermal images now
If the temps enough for you, so be it.
-
yup, your thermal images covers what i want le - is good enough for me.
inside temps are what i am concern as well
-
Well, CPUID Hardware Monitor is not responding. I tried the 32 and 64 bit versions too, the CPU is running at 2.48 GHz and nothing happens
Any idea?
-
[wrong post]
-
I couldn't get that to work on my U30JC either when I first downloaded it, I haven't tried to troubleshoot why it wouldn't work (maybe doesn't recognize the chipset?)
-
Til.
+1 rep for you. Thanks for the info... Off to buy the UL30VT... -
hmm.. no idea. so far have not been facing any issues with it. tried the one that doesn't require to install ?
-
Lavalys' Everest says it's Atheros AR9285. The ethernet controller is Atheros AR8131.
-
I tried the 64 bit zip first, then the 64 bit, and then the setup version too
-
Run intel burn test together with Everest > Tools > System Stability Test > Statistics
-
The 3DMark score is 3200 compared to the UL30VTs 3400 possibly because the UL30VT figure is usually 1280x1024 instead of 1366x768. I believe at the same resolution the two would perform the same, it'll be interesting when someone finally runs the exact same benchmarks on both.
So far I'm glad I bought the UL30VT... -
You are right, 3DMark06 runs on native resolution by default. I will run it in 1280x1024, but the same score is still not enough. I expected higher than the UL30Vt, it's a Core i5 CPU after all...
-
hi til,
How is the battery life if UL30Jt is running in battery mode, with turbo33 off but with wifi on? Just like simple browsing.
Thanks for your information!
-
Thanks for the benchmarks, however could you please post the CPU Benchmark with....
Turbo33 Off, Turbo Boost Off, Nvidia GeForce Off
I am trying to compare the Cpu Benchmark this with a UL30A1 with SU7300
Thanks a lot in Anticipation... -
Question regarding these benchmarks: http://m.blog.hu/no/noti/image/PassMark_Performancetest_70_64bit.png
If anyone has the UL30VT in this thread, can they also run the exact same benchmark in turbo mode? (Passmark 7.0)
The biggest factor of my decision to wait for the UL30JT is because of the processor but if the benchmarks come back with only a sight improvement this will immensely help me make my decision of UL30JT vs UL30VT
Thanks!
[edit]
Went searching through the forums and the closest thing i could find to a passmark score for comparison is dalamchops's post in http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...ul30vt-ul80vt-ul50vt-beyond-turbo-mode-2.html where he stated he received a passmark score of 1619.3 but the UL30VT was overclocked beyond turbo mode.
So
UL30JT Turbo'd = 2246.5
UL30VT Overclocked beyond Turbo = 1619.3
that's a 38.7% increase -
With the JT being such a let down I just picked up a VT-A1 for $503 (had a $250 GC from Christmas). I cant wait. JT took way too long with not enough of an improvement to warrant the wait and price premium. Even if the 2 models are priced identically I don't think I will be remorseful. I am traveling this Summer through Europe and need the extra battery life. See you over in the Owner's Lounge shortly... Cheers
-
Yeah I think I'm leaning towards doing the same thing. I don't see much benefit in the i5 with the JT. The only thing is I think I want the VT-X1 because it's black. I just wish it had the slightly bigger battery as the A1. So weird that they came out with 2 such similar devices.
-
Thanks for that, you have pretty much summed it up for me. The wait for the UL30jt has been disappointing. We can overclock the SU7300 to around 1.9 Ghz quite stable too so thats a nice free boost in power.
I have be reading into Optimus tech and well, I think its over rated. I'll explain why.
Sometimes for maximum battery life its nice to keep the integrated solution running. You know that your getting maximum battery life. But with the auto switching optimus you really don't know. Viewing a website that has a flash banner it would jump over to the GeForce card and start guzzling power. Maybe its not even needed or you dont want it? And if your without your power brick you want to max your battery, but you can't get this as the Optimus tech takes over and us using the dedicated GPU when really it shouldn't.....
My 2 cents on that...The UL30jt extra cost doesn't justify the slight CPU boost and almost equal GPU power in my eyes. Unless you really needed that i5 chip as you encode videos all day etc. -
This can all be controlled in the control panel, just as easy as the button but w/o having to close every program you have open. (just for information only)
I understand that you've made up your mind, and for you... the VT is where it's at! Trust me, it was a HARD choice to step back to a VT from the JT until the JC came out and I nabbed one of those. My post is only to inform others that this can be controlled by the user. -
Thanks, I didn't know that it could be controlled. I've narrowed it down to this or the Timeline X if its released in the next week or so. If not I'll just settle for a UL30vt as my travel lappy
-
I was on a deadline myself for this week but saw that there was no way that the JT would be released by then so I settled on the U30JC when I saw it come into stock a week ago. To me, the ASUS would be better then the Acer. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever you decide on.
-
I think the A1 is a better deal for the battery and the extra year warranty. If the X1 wasn't such a fingerprint magnet I would prefer the black color as well. But the VT really seems to be in a league of its own.
-
Well, I hope asus learned it's lesson after the JT. What it needs is better features, if they're going to make a subpar clone to the VT, at least make it have more expandability such as firewire and other ports. I don't even understand the point of the JT after reading these last recent posts.
-
+1
If it had USB 3.0, a 320-335 GT, maintained 10-12 hrs on battery and a high res. glass screen. I would be all over it like a fly on sh*t. -
Hahaha ^ so true.
-
My CPU-Z 64/CPUID is working fine.
-
Yup, those work fine for me as well. HWMonitor isn't working though. You mind trying that one and seeing if it works on yours?
-
I have a feeling the UL30JT is a prototype/precursor for the very system you've just described, which I fully expect to come out at the end of this year.
-
^ I hope you are right. Anybody wanna buy my ul30vt this Winter?
-
I've had enough of the waiting. I ordered the UL30VT-A1 on Monday, and it arrives tomorrow. These test results only confirm that I've made the right choice, despite the proprietary ASUS drivers for the switchable graphics.
This will easily tide me over until the next version of the JT arrives with the power-optimized Core ULV processors and other bells and whistles (USB3.0, etc.). And assuming that happens within the year, I should have pretty good resale value.
Thanks to our Hungarian friend for providing the review and benchmarks! -
I don't really get what people were expecting of the JT... I only really expected a boost in CPU and everything else being pretty much the same as the VT.
Sadly, I can't get hold of the VT, JT or JC here in NZ, so I might have to settle with a Macbook Pro. I don't know what happened - we have 3 Asus distributors but the good laptops never arrive. -
Your right, i guess we expected something more in a icore refresh of the line up.
Well you could try trademe? Or what about just ordering from ebay.com.au I know they have VT's and ship to New Zealand. -
So where we are at now is no boost in graphics and the i5 being a disappointment in that it doesnt add much horse power to the computer even when boosted?
As of now its actually looking like Ill make the portability sacrifice and go with the U30JC, but I really want somethign under 1 inch with decent computing power and good battery life
