Bronsky, you are such an idiot, man. Stop writing here always the same about the specs of Asus JT model and graphips. Who the F**K cares for what you are waiting for and want to buy???? That was on my heart. Sorry for spam.

    ok guys,
there are deals on amazon for numerous ULxxA or VT series popping up. $100 rebate for ul80a-a2 making it $577 after rebate. $100 rebate on 2 other models and $50 on some. Offer expires Feb 28th.

Also they're giving away free external asus dvd drives with some ul models that doesn't come with a dvd drive on amazon (ul30 models). this offer expires Feb 18th.

COULD THIS BE THE BEGINNING OF THE UL30 and 80JT?!? I think asus is trying to squeeze out some of the people who are waiting for the JT, but still very tempted to buy the VT (like me). Could this mean an announcement will be coming soon from asus?

Was responding to a guy who was debating cancelling his order for an M11x because he thought the JT was going to out perform it. I was offering my opinion. I thought your post was inappropriate and juvenile and think you need to get some manners.

While his reply was quite rude I am also tired of all the people that keep on repeat if they add XXXX to this laptop then I will buy it.. I don't find those post very constructive at all and a lot of the conjectures you see are quite off base. People like to throw up every spec in the world and it often gives new readers looking for real information false expectations.

Don't get your hopes up. I highly doubt the JT will come out with anything as fast as the 330M GT or better. Remember, it's still a CULV laptop with the added bonus of switchable graphics. It's not gonna rival the Z, which is twice the price or the M11x that's over half an inch thicker.

This might have been asked before but I don't believe its been answered. Does anyone know if Asus is overclocking this processor for turbo33 mode in addition to the turbo mode that all i5/i7's have?

Actually, the m11x has a 335m which is even better than the 330m by quite a bit.

but doesn' you think it is like having a desktop
    with hd 5850
    with a pentium E5300 (2.6ghz)
and playing game at 17" monitor?????

i used to love the idea of playing game on small netbook, but after a while, i keep asking myself..why i have to play the game this difficult???

    at screen like 11-12"
you will not notice the different in many games between low and high setting
games like mass effect / L4D

    i tried on my 1201n 12"
even is not playable, i just tried it...
between high and low setting just doesn't looks that much different...

to me now.. weight , thickness , screen size become important..
as long as i can play games at low setting with like 30-40 fps...

i believe the geforce 210 or 310 can run most game at low setting with native res.
( on't say no ... i played alot mass effect 2 on my 1201n at 1280*720 at low setting, ul30vt should do much better)

fury looking at your sig you have two very capable machines for different uses.

What do you want another laptop to really do? In my opinion people looking at the Asus ulvt/jt should be looking for three main things above all others.

Portability (it's under 4 pounds), Battery Life, and then being more powerful than netbooks and able to match decent laptops.

If you are looking for more straight performance I think you are better served in waiting or getting one of the more powerful i5, i7 solutions that will come out.

the reason I mention this is that the two other laptops you mention are both heavier and has less battery life.

Oh man, I swear I read that they changed the trackpad. Jesus I think I'm going to have to go with the m11x now. I've used the UL30 for a fair bit and hate it due to that alone. Sorry Asus but I must betray you for the first time since I began buying laptops =(

I think many of us computer geeks (computer enthusiasts if you will) are simply getting too hyped about this JT. The VT can already handle most games. The only thing JT really has over VT is the faster processor, which is not THAT important when it's supposed to be an ultra-portable laptop.

and for $577, the ul80ag-a2 is simply the best choice for people who doesn't need hardcore gaming on the go. I mean honestly..do you really see yourself playing games during work or school, especially if you have a gaming console or desktop at home. and don't forget, playing games unplugged on the JT or VT will drain the battery extra fast!

I think JT (or even VT) is only a good purchase if this is the ONLY computer you will be using, you know what i mean? So you can plug it up at home for gaming and power-stress use, and unplug it during the day for on-the-go use.

For budget shoppers, I think you should stop fidgetting, and just buy the best laptop suited for you, not the most modern one for some extra functions that you know you will rarely use.

my 1201n will be sold...!!! i got someone willing to buy it...
so the main is.. to replace my 1201n with my future laptop...

    this really get me...

if i get the r480 samsung..
a really well balance gaming system which can play anything you throw at it
but heavy and thicker then what i really want to carry everyday

the 11x is a heavy weight ultra portable..with really good gpu but average cpu
and with a smaller 11.6" screen
for playing games longer then 30 min, you will know,,

i played L4D on my 1201n online,, the first 30 min was ok but after that my eye hurt..!!!!!!

Ul30VT have the perfect in size and weight but with average cpu and mid to low end gpu, can't play game other then low setting at native res

it just give me headache keep on thinking about it,,

and one of the biggest advantage of samsung r480 .... I CAN PICK IT UP TODAY NOW!!!!!!!!! damn it

I feel you man. I had 2 asus laptops [1 was a netbook] and I just sold my netbook 1000he in anticipation of either this or the m11x. The other Asus F9J's battery last like 20 minutes =(. So right now I have no laptop and school starts in May. Hopefully everything will work out.

I am working right now, but i do love to bring my own laptop with me

    i don't go lan party
i just think the 11x is just too small to be a good gaming machine,
as screen is one of the most important thing,,,

I am just kind of pissed as the VT is not even here in Canada Calgary, and the JT is already on the way out,,,
when i get VT it will be already 2-3 months after the rest of people,
if i wait for JT then i will be without a laptop for 3 months.. which is no good.

    HELP!!

Compared to the M11x's SU7300, my thought is the i7 should handle MAME better, since over 2.1 ghz at full clock.

Then again, the main reason to get it is I wanted a small netbookish sized device that has a long lasting battery and will play games and game emulators well.

I actually ordered a CW27FX, but returned it. A little too big for what I wanted it for and the battery does not last what I thought it would.

M11x is a better fit- all things considered. If I did not have a very good gaming rig desk-top, I might have kept the CW27. Battery may not last long, but it chewed through MAME and 3D games better than any similar priced lappy I have tried. Nice system if you can only have one computer

Anybody has any idea how big will be the difference in speed of this processor in compare to the UL30VT processor? I know it is a new technology and it should take less power but how big is the difference??

The graphic card will be prolly pretty much the same, and I didn't notice any other difference. I don't really care that the palmrest is matte because it seems like coming only in black color and the black aluminium lid soaks oil which is nasty.

So huge improvement in processors speed would be the only deal breaker for me, since I will use the laptop for rendering 3D graphics.

I am interested in both the M11X and JT...however after owning an asus A8.. I am reluctant to pull the trigger on another as the screen quality and build quality is sub par.

I don't think we've seen any real numbers, but I think the difference will be significantly noticeable, thanks to Turbo Boost nearly doubling the maximum clock speed and the natural increased efficiency of a new architecture.

i don't want to have head ache

i got myself the samsung r480 14" laptop
    it is like 5lb total

but the spec is good for the money
    core i5 430m
    geforce 330
    4gb ddr3
    500gb harddrive

    thought about it

for me to enjoy game like mass effect when i am away from home,
i have to get something with good cpu and atleast mid end gpu..

none of the small ultra portable will do if i stay at under 1000 dollars

i rather carry abit more weight and get myself something nice for gaming....

    going to replace harddrive now

My situation got worse than you. I have one laptop that lasts like 5min and I cant even browse a website after a fresh bootup. My school has already started and I feel really bad as I have no laptop to use.

I just cant make a decision whether to buy UL30VT or wait till UL30JT to come for a better cpu, while I think UL30JT would be a lot expensive than the present price of UL30VT.

    i know...
my plan is... have two laptop

this heavier gaming laptop( i know it is not REALLY good for gaming,,, but atleast i can run mass effect 2 smoothly)

    and then

get the UL30JT when it comes out....
for light weight, long battery life
    or...
wait for the ION2 ultra portable

there is no perfect laptop!!!! at this range,.

The JT was shown almost a month ago and we still don't even have an official specs list, never mind a price. I'm guessing it'll easily break $1000, considering the UL30VT-A1 goes for $850.

I don't really need the boost in graphics, since I don't game much, but the new CPU would be nice to have. I might just settle for the VT if Asus doesn't announce pricing and release date soon.

I was considering the same thing, but Alienware m11x came to rescue. It's portable yet powerful. Aesthetics may not be on par with Asus, but who cares if it's $800 powerhorse with excellent battery life. Also, if I need bigger screen I would hook it up to tv or projector. Problem solved.

$800 is the base price with SU4100 1.3Ghz,
    2gb ddr
    160gb 5400rpm
after you upgrade it you'd be around $1100

Heh, you guys just made me think WHY exactly Im in the market for a new laptop. I currently have a 4 year old Acer which surprisingly runs fine. Not to mention it has a decent gfx card in the x1600m. Plus the battery life still eeks out 1hr of surf time. And I just realized all my classes are in classrooms with desk that have plugins in them...

I suppose I want a change and something lighter and the added bonus of not lugging around the adapter. Even though, its not a justified purchase, Ill still get a new laptop haha; gotta help the economy :p

So that said, I guess Ill just wait around for the JT or other options. The problem with the 30VT series was that while the black looked nice, its overpriced compared to what you get for the silver one, which imo looked uglier. So I was kinda on the fence for a long while. JT seems to change some of that. And from the CES shots, the JT looks nice. Now I just hope the JT release puts in that 5600 or 5800 mAh battery in a black version. And from the CES videos, it seems like the black has the matte plastic on the inside. Hopefully its not just the lighting, it would be nice to move away from the gloss crap.

Any idea when it's gonna show for sale? I was about to buy the UL30VT tomorrow, but I could wait a month for this gladly.
One question though. How can this laptop has the same battery life as the old one with a i7-720UM chip? That's just doesn't seem possible.

Likely not, but do you really need 12 hours? You can always lug around a second or larger battery, Im sure its fairly small for that laptop.

One quick question, what is the difference between UL30Vt and UL30Vt-x1?

the i7 cpus for laptops aren't all equal. the UM type i7 are ultra low voltage type CPUs, not unlike the SL and SU series in core 2 duo.
there aren't complete benchmark data yet, but looking at the i7 620UM, my guess is that it will probably benchmark just above a SL chip running at about the same clock speed with maybe somewhat better battery life from to the turbo boost feature, depending on usage.

Because the i7 low voltage chips put out less wattage than the c2d low voltages due to the 32nm sized die rather than the 45nm.

The Core 2 Duo SL series is not ultra low voltage, it is low voltage. It will be replaced by the LM Core i's.

Yesterday all Asus websites were down for about 2-3h. Maybe it was just a server glitch, or they we're doing some secret updates. We'll have to wait unfortunately.

On the heels of NVIDIA's anouncement of the Optimus GPU's (automatically switching integrated/GPU's) Asus has anounced that 5 of its laptops will have it. No mention of the UL30JT. But the N71Jv will come with an I3/I5 and a NVIDIA 325M GT, 1GB GPU. Is this the mysterious 1GB GPU slated for the JT? It looks to be much better than the 310M, performing similar to the 230M GT. Still hoping for a 330M GT or better.

Good to see Asus rolling out more info. It also says that Asus will be producing some ultraslim and light units with a SU7300 and 210GPU but that other GPU's are possible (they're talking about the VT?). Is there going to be the new platform for the Ion 2, which has also been anounced by NVIDIA as an Optimus GPU? Dual atom/Ion 2/integrated graphics and 10 hours of battery life in a 12"?

No answers yet from Asus - only more questions.

With that said, it looks slim now :( why would Asus roll the same gpu/cpu combo into a much smaller lappy ... but my hope lives on!

edit: I'm not to sure about auto gfx switching unless you can turn it off completely and do it manually. I mean, maybe I want to run flash on the IGP rather than discrete.

Anybody waiting for this might want to wait a little longer, a 1.33GHz Core i7-660UM is coming in Q3 when the Calpella platform refreshes.
