Thanks, djembe! Now just praying to the Asus/laptop gods to please push it out soon.

A trackpoint would be cool, but I wouldn't mind if there was only the touchpad - I use the touchpad for photoshopping and it seems to work better than a mouseI personally haven't tried the trackpoint. Is it more sensitive than the touchpad?
But yes, a matte screen would be great. And definitely improvement on build quality.
-
So any news if it will be a better trackpad/mouse buttons and if it will still have the crappy glossy exterior? That is what is gettng me to return my ul80vt.
-
from the pics the palmrest don't look glossy
-
So i'm deciding between the Vaio CW (14in) or waiting for the ul80jt, anyone have a idea of when it's hittin the market? I like the vaio but honestly 4 hours in a vaio = 2 hours real world. 12 hours in a asus = 6-7 hours.. that's realistic but than i guess that depends totally on what your doing...
the prob with the asus ul30 is it doesn't have a CD player/burner!! I think if you have time to kill you should all wait for the Ul80JT that's being refreshed. It's gonna have 1Gb dedicated GFX, and the i7. -
The U30jc will have a optical drive though.
-
I shall have to borrow someone's Lenovo thinkpad to test the trackpoint outThe touchpad isn't too good even for normal online games (the mouse is better), so if the trackpoint is just as good as the mouse, then I'm all for having a trackpoint option on the new Asus.
-
The UL30JT will not have a optical drive, it's the U30JC that will have an optical drive.
-
Honestly the Asus website is total crap. They could do well to take note from Sony's or other laptop manufacturers websites.. Like Sony's easy to navigate and take information on laptop screen size/specs.. Like Ul80vt. < This is a RETARDED way of naming laptops honestly the avg. joe will have to spend extra time and may be put off from buying the laptop because of it. Why not call it the Ul14? or Ul40? At least that would make a slight bit more sense..
Anyways the Ul80 has so much potential of becoming a insanely great laptop and honestly anyones best buy.. Great Battery life and specs.. drop in a backlit keyboard , kill the glossy screen that glare in the sun is unbelievable annoying honestly (although it doesn't have to I suppose its to much to ask) , throw in a optional SSD drive , fix a little build quality from what i've heard its lacking a bit , and market the laptop it would sell amazing than. The warranty on asus is bomb btw. Than this would be the ultimate laptop for anyone and everyone..
I sometimes wonder why companies don't make the perfect products sometimes.. Take car companies for example. They put in 1 thing in but leave the other one out. than the next car has that 1 thing but not the other.
Sorry for the rant... lol -
Anyone know if the JT is coming to the UK, or Europe? A bit miffed why they have released versions of the UL50 and UL30 here, but skipped on the UL80.
-
Nothing's perfect that's the human flaw. We look for perfection, but we're never happy with anything.
If you have the perfect laptop it never need to be upgraded and it'll never fail on you. -
And i am like the other two posters, i am about to pull the plug on a delivery i am expecting tomorrow on the Sony Vaio C26 about to be delivered because with all i have read today regarding the 1600x900 on a 14" laptop, it seems "squinting" woulda become my national pasttime.
So i was about to order the ulvt and saw this and said "whoa nellie". an i7 processor vs the su7300? isn't it a no-brainer or am i missing something?! -
Dummbunny all the info from CES indicates the U30JC will have an optical drive. Read around some more...

I hate playing the waiting game. I almost wish I didnt know about the JT upgrades so I would have been content with the VT....Now...I have to wait for the JT to appear and that could be months away....ugh

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+...lack/9723951.p?id=1218159867078&skuId=9723951
although no switchable graphics, of course. -
. I'm also looking around, thinking of the T410 thinkpad from Lenovo...
Btw, I might as well ask it here: is it so important to have switchable graphics? I understand that discrete graphics may be slightly better than integrated (please correct me if I'm wrong), but people seem so upset about not having switchable graphics... please enlighten me. -
Sorry about that. Try searching for this SKU on bestbuy.com
SKU: 9723951
i5, BluRay, GT330M graphics, etc, etc
Nice overall combo for $950. Can save $50 by not getting the blu ray drive.
The switchable graphics would be nice for power savings. Turn on descrete GPU for games, and then turn it off to save battery life. As opposed to having to leave it on all of the time and suffer battery life.
If you don't plan to game on it, I would opt for a laptop without a dedicated GPU. -
SO what would be the battery life on that thing? Like 2 hours?
-
Ah switchable graphics for power savings... it would definitely be useful in the long run, I suppose. I don't game, just watch movies and photoshop a little on the laptop. -
Will the UL80JT support user control over the graphics vs automated? Also, any indications about a solid state drive option? I know the UL80Vs(UL80Vt with SSD) has a 160GB option but that model has not been released here. It would add a bit of cost to the unit but would be worth it to me for the increased speed in boot time and application launch. I'm a student and all the little time adds up to me from shuting off and turning on multiple times during the day.
-
SSD not so much, hehe.
EDIT: So I've been doing some research on the side. I'm told the notebook will be put on sale around the end of 2010. Any word on the exact month?? -
-
-
A release date and specs would be nice. Why keep us waiting Asus?
-
Obviously things always change, but that's the timeline I'm sure we're all looking at. Something in that range, give or take a month or so. -
I'm ready to buy!
-
any details of asus /nvidia switchable graphics?? screenshots...bios options....compatibility and battery life in linux
-
is there any way u can add an extra HDD in place of optical Drive??? some sort of casing ........just wondering if it can be done
-
on facebook fan page, someone commented "should i buy ASUS U30JC-A1 or wait for ASUS UL80 JT, and can someone tell me the deference between them? thank you"
Asus replied: "Wait in about 2 weeks and you'll have an answer"
such a tease, i don't know if i appreciate that. -
-
If you go to ASUS' website they have updated the front page to reflect the new models. There is a video is supposed to come out on April 5. Perhaps we'll get an idea then?
If these are ready to pre-order/ship in the next two weeks I'm just going to say screw it and buy a Mac. I'm tired of waiting on this company. -
Release Date!!!!!! Please!
-
WE ARE IN APRIL!! come on asus!
-
Anyone?
Some info please! -
Dammit. I've become a turncoat. I was rooting for the UL30JT until I decided I need a slightly bigger screen. Deleting the UL30JT page from my favorites and adding UL80JT!
-
I know this isn't much, but here's some info I found on the asus website..

Any news? Asus seem to be taking their merry time...

http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/product_finance_calculator.php/asus+ul80jt+wx002v+black
Looks like it is imminent. Some stores in DE write the 16th.
I really like the UL80JT but am wondering how cpu-power is compared to "normal" i5. Is it enough for doing some graphic work, having lots of tabs open, office and entertainment? I am totally out of the loop understanding intels new cpu names..so confusing.
Whats the loudness like and what about the display and usb3? Also I am missing an umts card and does it have keyboard-light?
If anyone has some alternatives to the UL80JT with more cpu power, please let me know. I looked into the N82, seems to be fine, but too few battery time and on the other hand I´d prefer an i7. -
Any info about amazon?
-
Anything new about the Notebook? I think i gonna buy it but wanna see a review first...
-
AzzzzZZzzzussss.. maybe i´ll go chek other notebook...

Whats with the Acer TimelineX 4820TG-434G64MN? or TimelineX 4820TG-334G50MN
Is this CPU much better than the i5-520UM with 2 x 1,06 GHz? Acer tells us that it will have 8hours Battery, the graphiccard is nearly the same (except the 5650), but it has double cpu speed. Is the i3 even bettter than the 520UM?
This suxx -.- -
Though the base clock frequency of the i5-520UM is 1.067GHz, things are not as simple as that. It can actually go up to 1.6GHz on two cores with Turbo Boost. In addition, ASUS seem to be using their Turbo33 with these Core i ULVs as well, which means another 33% extra clock speed in addition to Intel's boost - that would mean 2.133GHz.
You should note that the Core i3-330M runs at 2.133GHz as its default clock speed, and doesn't have Turbo Boost, which means that at absolute peak performance the i5-520UM would match the i3-330M. On the other hand, the i5-430M reaches 2.533GHz with Turbo Boost, which is another 18.75% faster than the i3-330M's 2.133GHz.
Keep in mind that clock speed is almost all you need to know to compare one Arrandale against another. There are some differences in features, such as the lack of AES-NI, VT-d, and TXT in the i5-430M, i5-350M, and i5-330M; AES-NI can make a significant difference in performance for certain properly-coded encryption applications, but on the whole it doesn't really matter.
On the other hand, the mobile dual-core i7s offer 4MB of cache rather than 3MB in the i5s and i3s, but again I doubt this would make much difference in most cases. -
Thx lackofcheese, forgot the integrated turboboost. thought it can go up to 1.86 + asus33 --> about 2.47ghz but nevermind ^^.
is there any review about the ul80jt yet? i only found the ces vid -
The 1.867GHz->2.489GHZ would apply when only a single core is active. The Core i CPUs have different levels of Turbo Boost depending on the application, but overall the clock speed on two cores is of more importance.
Mind you, there should also be faster models of the UL80JT with the Core i7-620UM and the i7-640UM. On two cores, the 620UM offers a maximum Turbo Boost speed of 1.733Ghz->2.311GHz with Turbo33, while the 640UM offers a maximum of 1.867Ghz->2.489GHz. The i7s also offer 4MB of cache as I said previously.
I'm not sure about reviews of the UL80JT, but there are a couple of UL30JT reviews listed in the UL30JT thread, and the two are clearly very similar. -
To owners of UL30JT,
How is the vents on the left side holding up?
Is it barely hot or very hot? -
Hello everybody. I've got one question.
Asus claimed core i7 processor. However on the official site I see
"Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 520UM : 1.06 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 1.86 GHz"
link: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=KtrJvpc9jBC956Le
What processor will they eventually use? -
:O In the videos on youtube at CES 2010 say Core i7...
-
I think initially they will release them withe the i5 520UM and later on in the product life cycle they may release another version with the i7 to boost sales. Isn't that what they did with the UL30 and then the UL30VT?
