Yeah, here's an attachment of my boot tab in the bios. The boot options priority is not selectable. I've neve had a problem selecting boot order on any of my other pc/laptops in the past... but drawing a blank here. I've pretty much tried F8 and all the other F keys as well, nothing's working. Legacy USB devices is enabled on another tab.
Couldn't get the attachment working, but here's the picture of it:

I inserted my bootable USB device first then when I went into the BIOS boot tab there was an option to add another bootable device.
You give it a name then a boot directory and save it.
Restart the machine hitting the escape button will bring up the boot options directory.Select the one you created and it will then boot from the USB drive. -
I'm considering the UX302LA from Best Buy. I've not seen an unboxing for this particular model. Does the BB version come with the laptop sleeve? What about the VGA and ethernet adapters?
Edit:
Found this post which seems to have answered my question:
Edit 2:
I've narrowed down the search to this or the Yoga 2 Pro. The Yoga 2 Pro is $150-200 more, but will have a 256GB SSD. Other than that (and the screen), the two are speced pretty evenly. Choices.... -
Yups, I've only had it twice yet, and it only happened when I got out of sleep. It probably has to do with the amound of memory (RAM) in your system. You probably only have 4 GB, which may cause problems in windows 8 in combination with "instant on". I'm not sure about this though
-
Very unlucky me, My unit comes with a few dead pixel, have to go through the trouble to RMA this unit
-
Woot has the UX302LA refurbished!
Asus 13.3" Full HD Core i5 Zenbook Touch -
Anyone have an issue where the computer won't reconnect to a network after waking from sleep? Sometimes the automatic troubleshooting will reset the adapter; sometimes it says it can't reset it. I have to restart to get it to reconnect, which isn't the end of the world, but is annoying.
I went into power settings and set the network adapter to always be at maximum performance, but no change. Any ideas? -
Windows 8 or 8.1?
Do you have all of the latest updates/drivers installed?
-
8.1, and it says I have the latest drivers installed. I guess I can try uninstalling and reinstalling those drivers.
-
Nice price:
You know they were returned because of the key board issue.........
I wonder if they even tried to fix them or just send them back out????? -
Ha, it would be interesting to find out! If anyone gets one, let us all know so we know what to expect on future refurb sales. I'll buy one if the price ever hits $600
-
Has anyone bought a spare power adapter for their machine yet? If so, can you tell me which ones are compatible with the UX302? There seem to be two ADP-45AW adapters out there - one which supports the UX-21E/UX-31E, and another that supports the UX-21A/UX-31A/UX-32 machines - but no-one is listing support for the UX302 yet, so I'm trying to work out which of these (if either) will fit. Oh, and any specific recommendations on one that definitely works? (NOTE - I tried to buy an ASUS OEM adapter, but seemingly they don't sell them :-/). Thanks in advance
-
What was the refurb price? Didn't catch it, and the price isn't shown anymore.
-
I had the same problem. No obvious way to boot from alternate media. What I had to do was disable boot security, reboot, enable "Launch CMS", reboot, and then it would boot if I just let the computer boot from it, but it still wouldn't let me install in UEFI mode and I had to install on NTFS. I'm really surprised everyone else had such an easy time booting from USB.
-
Has anyone found a tool to undervolt the UX302LG? I tried Notebook Hardware Control and RMclock, NHC doesn't work for W8 x64, and RMclock doesn't detect the CPU.
-
I am going to buy a refurb this summer for my daughter.
-
It was $699
I've had the same troubles with booting from USB. Booting from external DVD writer, I've had no problems though -
I'll try my tool later to see if it works(forget it's name) but I have to question why you would want to undervolt a Haswell processor. They run at such a low voltage when not in use that it's almost negligible. It might be better to just run the balanced power plan instead of high performance so the clock can throttle to 5% when not used - or just make your own power plan to optimize battery the way you want.

I ran into two other blue screens last night, both with different error codes. Have you all seen any of these or do I have a lemon?

Lol I've never seen a Windows 8 BSOD before. I think you've got hardware issues, either your RAM or your HDD. Because the error is different each time and it's inconsistent, I'd say it's your RAM. Either way, invoke your warranty on that shiet.

Yep CPU or memory, most likely memory.

First off, thanks for all of the tips in this thread. I bought a UX302LG and upgraded the RAM (8GB Patriot Viper) and put in a 500GB Samsung SSD inside.
Just wanted to add something when it came to taking apart my machine. I took out the 9 screws on the bottom, and tried (and failed) to take off the back feet. I ended up looking inside, and there were no screws under the feet. So check before you peel them off.
Secondly, when I was trying to pop the bottom off, I found it easiest to stick something underneath the rounded part at the back (like a very small screwdriver), and slip a credit card under it for leverage. Popped off easily.
Seems like a great machine, though it's a bit larger than I expected. Was spoiled a bit by the size of the Dell XPS13 -
Did you make any mods to the factory shipped configuration?
-
I had dead pixels and I just received mine back from Asus. They received it Jan 15 and shipped it out on Feb 6th.
Hopefully they will get yours back a lot faster! -
Wow, they've improved over the years. They used to take over a month.
-
not so familar with the difference between ssd cache as opposed to having a full-on ssd in there.
Do you guys think it's worth the upgrade of buying an ssd seperately, and replacing the hdd with the ssd, or would you say that having hdd + ssd cache combo (which it comes with) is more than sufficient enough? -
It depends on what "sufficient enough" is for you. Personally I think it's worth it. The standard HDD (at least in the LG) is 5200 rpm iirc, which is about as slow as you can get these days. The cache supposedly helps, but I'm looking for the ultimate ultrabook powerhouse so there was never any question for me really. On top of the speed boost, I don't want to have to worry about damaging the hdd when moving the pc, I want to squeeze every drop of power from the battery when not plugged in, etc, so I threw a 512GB Samsung 840 Pro in mine. I'm planning to use this PC for upwards of 5 years, so I think it's worth it for me. Probably a little overboard for most people though; the better bang for your buck is definitely the EVO.
-
I did not. It was a stock configuration. I took it back in and they swapped it out. Once I know this unit operates fine, I will move forward with the ssd and ram upgrade.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You don't want to fill an ssd anyway so having spare room keeps it snappy and healthy.

Those who have installed a SSD, did you clone the existing OS from the hard drive or do a clean install? If you cloned the existing OS, what software did you use?
I have been trying to clone the OS to a Crucial M500 using various methods, but all of them resulted in a non-booting copy of windows. I have also tried a fresh install of 8.1 but for some reason it fails to detect the drive at all.
Thanks. -
Hey guys, I've had my ux302LG for 19 days now and I'm sad to report that some dead pixels have appeared on my screen. I really hope i can just return my laptop for a new one, but it really sucks that I have to go through all this annoying stuff. If I have to send my model back to asus I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on the service that asus delivers
-
I did a clean install, ran into some problems but managed to make it work. Someone earlier in the thread cloned their drive using the Samsung clone software that came with their SSD and said it worked fine.

https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX302LG/#overview
So, I don't know how many of you have looked at this page, but if you scroll halfway down it says the LG comes with "Radio 0". Uhh what? Did they mean Raid 0? And if they did, why is it not in the specs? Or in the LG I'm currently using? -
That's awesome - they even incorporated the typo into the logo and animation! Looks like they fixed it on the Zenbook Inifinity page. I'm sure it was just an oversight when they were making the two pages. The only RAID 0 SSDs laptops are the ones that use msata as their primary drive(or dual HDs of course). The Zenbook Infinity has one. My Acer S7 also had one. Interestingly enough, it was a single msata with 2x 128GB and 2x controllers. Got 900MB read and write but I never noticed the difference in anything I did. Overrated gimmick imho, like RAPID mode on the Evo series.
-
It is either an error on the web page or (more likely) marketing bull to make people believe that this laptop has two SSDs in Raid 0. Other than the nearly useless 16GB SSD used for caching in conjunction with the ExpressCache software, there is absolutely nothing remarkable about the storage system in the 302LG.
-
For you, I would think that if the pc boots up fast then you should be happy. that's what the small SSD is giving you.
-
I cloned the 500GB HDD to a 256GB Samsung 830 SSD and it's working brilliantly! The Sofware i used was ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE 2014. You can download it and run 14 day trial. The Space used on the HDD was around 70GB. So i just created an image of that partition, ran the acronis dos programm and put it on the SSD.
-
You could also try going into the control panel, creating a recovery boot disk on a USB stick... swap the drives, boot of the stick and install the factory image.
-
I didn't want to deal with the whole Win8 key / ISO / installation, so I cloned the drive with the free software that comes with the Samsung drives. Took about 20min.
-
I was looking at my startup programs in task manager, and there is a thing called the "Asus Product Register Program." I registered my computer with Asus, so does anyone know if I can uninstall this? Task manager says that this program has a high impact on startup times.
-
You can't just right click it and disable it from the startup tab?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You can use msconfig from start menu to check out the start up items. -
In Windows 8 they moved it to the task manager.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yes, but you can access it via several ways.
I am used to type msconfig in the start/metro menu and System Configuration screen will come up. -
And you can also press the Windows key, type "run", hit enter, type CMD, hit enter, then type msconfig, hit enter, click the startup tab, and then click the link, but that's way more steps than just pushing ctrl+shift+esc and then clicking the startup tab.
-
A small question regarding the RAM. I would like to change to 8GO + 2GO from MB, is it possible and is there something to do in the software side? TY
-
Yes it's very possible, and no to anything involving software.
-
Thanks dustinm, do you know the "name" of the tool for opening the backside of the notebook for adding new RAM? -
It a torx driver. Cheapest would be to buy a precision set including sizes from T5 to T10.

i just bought an ux302lg from ncix, had been using for almost a week. there was a line of dead pixel on the screen so i took it back to exchange. luckily, they had another one in stock so they gave me that. the second one was fine (a little screen bleeding on the bottom, but it doesnt bother me).
the configuration of my ux302lg is i7-4500u, 8gb, 500gb w/ 16gb ssd.
after using it for about a week, everything seems to run excellently. there wasnt too many bloatware to remove (except for the asus utility software which i wasnt sure if i should uninstall). surprisingly, after removing everything, it still take up to 30gb of storage space. battery life goes from 6-7 hours with lowest brightness while internet browsing and document writing. i havent heard anything from the notebook so its pretty quiet.
I upgrade from windows 8 to 8.1 but something weird happen to my screen resolution. the text on some software seems really blurry and not as sharp as it was when the computer is still running windows 8. i check my device driver. they are all updated. dont know if anyone else has this problem. if anyone here had this issue and solved it, please tell me. its really annoying me.
I also plan to switch out either the hdd with a ssd, or the 16gb cache with a larger storage msata mini and make this my boot drive. dont know which is better. but whatever. thats all.
