It also gets to use Nvidia drivers.

Thanks for checking Jim. I think its a common thing then. it seems like the previous zenbooks had it too; I wouldnt be surprised if samsung used the same screen in ux302s.
Overall, im very happy with the zenbook as well. One thing I noticed however is that it drained like crazy during sleep. If anyone else notices this, go into the asus power management app (Power4Gear) and turn off Instant On.
-
After trying (and failing) to find a user interface for "Intel® Smart Connect Technology" to configure it, I simply uninstalled it and now it sleeps properly. -
-
but they seem to have de-listed it, it's not on the site anymore. Must have sold out... -
I'm not sure whether to get this or the 13 inch rMBP. I was hoping the Zenbook would be more competitively priced to make this decision easier for me.
-
This is probably a Windows 8 issue, but is there a setting somewhere to disable whatever it is that causes targets to be selected unintentionally? Sometimes when I am just trying to scroll of just move the pointer, I unintentionally select a target or perform some action that I don't want.
Thanks for any insight, Jim -
Thanks for the heads up. I just checked my Energy Report using command prompt "powercfg /energy" and found yet another possible culprit:
Platform Power Management CapabilitiesCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled
PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer.
Not sure of how much of an impact this could have on battery life.
Another problems I just noticed, the wear level on my battery is being reported at 5% already after only 3 days of use (full charge capacity is at 47.5 mwh, not 50.10 mwh as designed). I'll have to keep an eye on this

Someone was worried about what kind of glass was used in the UX302LA display. The answer seems to be Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

If they used it on the back then they would use it on the front too most likely.
-
I havent tried it, but a member here, GTragnarok (sorry if im misspelling it) did the upgrade without completely removing the plate. He just propped it open like a tent using a screw driver. Another member was able to take the whole thing off but he said it took some delicate manoeuvering. Its a cicular hinge that seems to be shared by the LCD, so try opening the LCD at different angles and see if it comes off.
Regardless, you should be able to do the upgrade without taking it off completely.
-
Yes, all of them have the English style keyboard.
Now that the UX302LA is on sale for 800 dollars, I am very sad that I brought it. -
-
^^ thanks for sharing your experience. Let us know how things work out with your upgrades

Can the LX302LG be downgraded to Windows 7? I'm not interested in Win 8 but want ultrabook Haswell + discrete graphics goodness.
-
Thanks a lot for the great posts guys really encouraged me to buy the ux302lg and I am glad I did!! Its truly a great machine and I haven't run into any problems with it so far. I will be updating this regularly if I find any bugs or anything like that.
However reading through the post I have a questions:
-
updated to previous
-
For US buyers, is there a best place to buy the UX302LG? I know Amazon CA has it in-stock.
-
Every time I power up, I find the Power plan set to "Power4Gear High Performance". I reset to Balanced, but the next time I power up it is set back to Power4Gear. How can I make it quit doing this?
Thanks, Jim -
Here is my first complaint. I can't get a SDHC card to go in the slot. It slides in about half way, then seems to hit something solid. It won't go in far enough to make contact with the pins.
Anyone else have this problem, or does this go back to Best Buy?
Thanks, Jim -
stop power4Gear from changing power scheme - Microsoft Community
Update: I was playing around with the services on msconfig and you could try disabling the instant on service as its a part of P4G and it may resolve you issue.
-
OK, I uninstalled Powe4Gear, and no more power plan issues.
Thanks, Jim -

Thanks, Jim -
Jim,
If the card is inserted properly but still wont show up in My Computer, perhaps the drivers are not installed correctly. Check Device Manager and see if there are any exclamation marks anywhere. Also, make sure an SD card reader is listed sonewhere there as well
-
OK, It does read. I was sure that it didn't read earlier when I thought there was a problem with the card not going all the way in. Maybe I just thought if the card didn't go in, there was something wrong.
Anyway, I wonder why Asus designed a card reader where the card didn't go in all the way? I guess because it doesn't need a spring release mechanism?
Thanks, Jim -
Some questions:
how to make a restore disc for the ux302la bestbuy model?
Where do I change the scroll speed and direction? -
For those that now own the Ux302lg, could you detail your impressions? There's a surprising lack of reviews and coverage on this model. I'm sure many of us would like to hear how the machine is functioning on a day-to-day basis. What are your thoughts on Asus' newest offering?
-
Just got my brand UX302LA from Bestbuy.
HELP!
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and somehow my max brightness isn't that bright anymore. I even compared it with my girlfriend's last year model Zenbook which is way brighter on maximum brightness than mine. Has anyone else faced this issue? If so, what do I do? I know it is software/graphics thing but google doesn't have any answers for this.
I got this after I returned my first UX302 because of a display issue as well. -
-
Thanks a lot! That fixed it. -

How well does the GT 730m handle League of Legends in 1080p?
-
Cons:
- the glass lid is just a completely stupid idea in my opinion. it feels much less solid than the previous zenbooks with aluminum lids (ux32vd), and while I'm sure it looks nice to some people when clean, the aesthetic value is completely lost, as it's literally dirty (fingerprints) all the time.
- I'm a little nervous about how the notebook will stand up to travelling, it's pretty thin (on the other hand I guess that's why I bought it).
Pros:
- It's really light, easy to schlepp around
- It runs my apps, which are developed for desktop GTX690's, obviously slower, but solid and stably
- battery life seems good, haven't really tested it on a long trip yet though
Upgrades:
- I'm upgrading the RAM to 12GB, but probably not the HDD. I've recently upgraded a number of desktops to SSD's, and quite frankly haven't noticed a difference in day to day speed use. In fact my compilation times for large projects are within a few percent of each other. So I'm not sold that upgrading the drive will add much benefit to me. However, if an SSD would significantly increase battery life, I might be sold...
- I bought a 3 year extended warranty from ASUS due to my nervousness about whether the notebook is tough enough.
Cheers -
Control Panel > Recovery > Create a recovery drive
It makes a USB drive not a CD. And the USB drive must be at least 16 GB.
Good luck, Jim -
-
Does anybody have a picture of the charger/power brick?
-
The directions I gave you will create a bootable USB drive that has restore options on it.
Good luck, Jim -
It is similar to the previous Zenbook generation charger. -
Here's a follow up to an older post in which I crowed about a successful conversion from HDD to SSD without buying another copy of Windows OS. d
Well, scratch all that. The new setup worked OK but there were bugs and no recovery options and after a bunch of fighting with Asus over why they won't send me OS reinstall media (including conferencing Asus and Microsoft together), I finally gave up and bought a new copy of 8.1 from the Windows Store.
And now everything is perfect. No bloatware, no bugs, battery lasts forever (but it did before, too) and takes up tiny space on my ssd.
I still love the computer but I don't much love Asus anymore and will definitely think twice before buying another one of theirs (this is my third in a row). -

guys i got a huge problem.
ive got a ux302lg replaced a intel 530 ssd into it...its ok as it detects it...
so i carried on and installed win 8 pro using the original iso...everything went well drivers and all, windows update too...there after i went to store to update to win 8.1....once it downloads finish and restarts it does its thing for a while and gives me a error report...shuts down and goes straight into bios as the ssd is no more detected....i need to shut it down from bios, start it up again then it will say windows failed to update...ive made sure all drivers are the latest and also updated the fw of the ssd....
so i went on and gotten the win 8.1 pro iso thinking it would be ok....instead the installation cant even detect the ssd at all...
can i conclude this intel ssd not compatible wif my laptop and 8.1? if so im planning to go buy a samsung ssd.. -
THE UX302LA IS ON SALE RIGHT NOW AT BEST BUY FOR $799!!!
At that price, you could almost get the OS and SSD and not be out too much. And certainly not if you compare to the prices of other SSD-equipped Ultrabooks. -
Hi,
The intel 530 has a know problem in firmware DC12, I experienced the same problems as you and ditched the SSD for a Samsung Pro.
However the new Intel firmware is now out and could very well fix your problems, if you in fact have updated the firmware to DC23 then we can conclude that it does not work with the UX302. No problems with the Samsung though.

Has anyone heard of the white version coming out? Anyone?? I see pictures of the white one but I don't know if stores are just using the UX301LA images.
I'm going to be in HK and Taiwan in a week so perhaps there'll be news (the UX301LA has the white version in select countries too?), but I'm hoping someone can share some light on that beforehand. -
with everything set to very high.---60fps most of the time with drops to 50fps
this is what I got without overclocking -
Large Visual Studio project rebuild time:
before: 2:27, 2:20, 2:20
after: 2:19,2:19, 2:16
Large multithreaded + CUDA image processing task:
before: 3:09, 2:56, 2:57
after: 3:11, 3:00, 3:00
Both tasks are very RAM intensive, and they are within less than 1% of each other. So I'm satsified that the RAM is certainly not any slower...
It would be great if someone who upgrades their SSD could share a similar result. Especially not on benchmarks, but rather real world usage.

Holy thank god man! I was almost worried its my laptop problem...Yes updated to the newest firmware wif intel toolbox 3.20....ok ditching it tmr for a samsung....Thanks alot, u made my day!
