Yep, Norwegian. Sandisk U100 is correct, and 7.4 was straight out of the box. Haven't changed anything. I just now ran the test again, and the score was unchanged. It's the same as I have on my Intel X25M.

I still haven't done anything to stress the CPU, but the exterior has stayed cool so far. I haevn't thecked the temp on the CPU. The only time I have noticed the fan spinning up, was while the Bios was being updated.

There's no other ultrabooks or lightweights available!
Would love to get Vaio Z, but many said that the speakers suck balls!

Lenovo U300s, the few people that have it give it good reviews.
I had to send 2 ux31 back because of not funtioning WiFi

Why do I get 5.9, and you guys 7.4?

I have write cache enabled, and use the latest WHQL Intel Rapid Storage driver.
It was 5.9 out of the box, and 5.9 with all drivers updated. :(

2 different sandisk SSD's i think. The Windows Index is too good for the sandisk model we got. The norway guys with the 7.4 score should perform a as-ssd benchmark and post their scores... i think this sandisk model could be a very fast one...

Are you sure you changed the wifi power save mode deep in the windows power setting structure. I thought I had changed mine, but it's confusing if you do it quickly because it says Maximum Power Saving, and further down it says Maximum Power. I clicked Maximum Power Saving thinking I had fixed it, and of course it made it worse. I was all set to send it back when I checked again and realized my mistake.

No, I think they have that policy every year for the holidays.

You guys think I'll be happier with an i7 over the i5? I do a lot of multitasking and video editing, but don't know if my Nikon and Pinnacle software take advantage of the i7 structure.

Man, that's weird. I could even notice the fan spinning up while browsing this thread. And the only thing I'm running is Chrome (for approximately half an hour or so).

    Hi Everyone!

I can confirm that using the older Atheros wifi driver results in a 100% improvement in transfer rates. Using .459 as provided by asus averages 2MB/s rates whereas .432 averages 4-5MB/s+ rates. This has been consistently proven. I have linked to the .432 driver below, let me know if anyone experiences the same.

The only thing i need to make this ultrabook complete is a usb 3.0 to Gige adapter.

    Anyone find one?

I just ran the AS-SSD benchmark, score are attached. The 4k scores are quite bad, right?

BigZ12: I believe I also got 5,9 score when testing on battery, have you tested plugged in (performance profile)

Btw; Just checked and write cache is enabled, also added Atto score. To me the picture looks a lot better there.

As many people mentions, it's the ones who has problems that are the loudest so I'll just want to say that I'm very happy with my UX31 so far.

Wireless works just fine, trackpad is good (elantech), keyboard is good (although need a little getting used to).

But I'm just curious to see the performance of the Sandisk SSD compared to the adata, from my test scores the AS-SSD get's 7-8MB @ 4k but the Atto gets 65-88MB @ 4k. Who's right and why the difference?

Is it possible to test WEI on batteries? I thought the OS says that the power should be connected.

Your 4k / 4k-64 and total score in AS SSD is not good at all. Very similar to mine. That is why the WEI is only at 5.9.

Yesterday I tried both installing av clean version of W7 Enterprise X64 and then used the System Recovery (F9) to check if the Sandisk U100 would start performing... But no... 5.9 in WEI, and really low scores on 4k / 4-64thrd.
(And while installing / uninstalling, the fan was very loud because of the high temps...)

This UX31 is going back... :(

I only saw the 5.9 score after the first time booting up the machine (then it was on batteries), then I saw the score as 5.9. Then I connected charger and ran it again and got 7.4.

Yeah like you say abit dissapointing to see the 4k scores 4-5 times better on the AData. I saw a review on dinside.no which they mentions adata ssd on the same model (i7/128gb), will you try to get it replaced to one with adata? Or just return it?

Unfortunately speakers are the Z2's weakest point -- speakers on the bottom? What was Sony thinking! It's telling that Sony US provides a free set of noise canceling ear buds with the unit.

I did not experience this. I got 2.8 MB/s with the newest driver, and the same with the one you linked to. My wireless router could be the bottleneck, but I don't have any way of checking this at the moment.

Hello, i have the ux21e and i experienced a strange behavior.
When i connect the external monitor with the micro usb to vga, electrical sparks are coming from the aluminium frame and the cable.
Can you guys try to reproduce this? Take the micro usb connected with the vga cable and scratch over the aluminium body of the computer, do you see some sparks?
    Thanks for answer.

FYI; The WEI isn't possible to run on batteries. Just tested that.
Ran the WEI on a 100% clean System Recovery, and still 5.9 on HDD.
The fan is really working while doing the test, and the computer runs a bit hot pretty soon. Can one of you run WEI, and listen if your fan is spinning up too? Don't like the sound of it either...

I called the retailer where I bought the UX31 today, and said I would like to return the computer because of the slow SSD and that it runs hot (and the aggressive fan)
The guy I talked to said that the Sandisk SSD on the Sandforce controller was "unstable", and that some could get a good one and other bad ones...
He also said that a new firmware would correct the problem.
Anyone here found such a firmware update?

Most of the time I'm pretty happy with the speed, but when I want to make fine adjustments of only a line or 2, I find it difficult to control. I tried searching, but there doesn't seem to be much there or I worded it wrong.

One of the major retailers in Sweden (Dustin) pulled the UX31 a few days ago, and I mailed them and asked what was up, and they said that they will not continue to sell this current revision due to the problems people are experiencing, BUT they also said that they will get a new revision of the UX31 in late December.

Hi! Just got the UX31 and been configuring it for the last few hours. So far I like it. Got one with the Sentelic touchpad and after the driver update the touchpad is working quite well. Also disabled everything else except two finger scrolling in the Sentelic options ('Finger Sensing Pad' under Mouse). Somebody else was asking how to adjust the two finger scrolling speed. I could not find any option for that so far. Anyone?

Where/how can you set the above mentioned color settings? I didn't find any place under Control Panel -> Display.

Wireless is working very well so far. Audio is great both with the speakers and headphones, no problems with the headphone jack on this unit.

Will post if anything comes up.

Thank you everybody for all the info I've gotten through this thread!

Since when does the UX31 have a micro-USB port? I thought it was mini-VGA? Anyhow, while I never tried to connect an external display to my device, I did have the problem mentioned earlier in this thread, where the device body was giving mild electric shocks. This may or may not be related to what you are experiencing. I have since returned this PoS and would suggest you do the same. The problem might not be dangerous (but who knows for sure?), it is however not acceptable in my opinion. At all.

Yes you are right, it's the mini vga, sorry my mistake. Ok, the computer also has some BSOD and crashes, could't reproduce this, it happened over night or when i wasn't there. Uh oh guess i will return it.

Thank you very much for the answer. :)

Heh... don't let brand un-loyalty get in the way.

I'm getting the TFPrime too... my current TF is almost like a netbook and so the TFP will be more like an Android ultrabook.

I still need a super thin Win machine so the $799 Z835 seems like too good of a deal to pass up. Next year, when Asus gets their 2nd version better (like from the TF to the TFP), maybe that's when I'll get a Zenbook... and hopefully they'll have 1080p FullHD available.

There is no adjustment for the scrolling speed in the config for the Sentellic that I could find. I'm hoping I'm missing something. I'm typing and scrolling on my 4 year old Dell and I'm amazed at how much better the scrolling is on this old thing.

Maybe I just need to turn off the 2 finger scrolling.

Although the dock has USB, I think you would have to root it to get USB modem connectivity (and it depends on the modem brand). Will your carrier let you change out your USB modem for a MiFi hotspot? Then that would work with any tablet.

I use PDANet Tablet (beta) to tether to my Android phone via bluetooth but it's kind of kludgy. They just added AdHoc WiFi capability to it so I can also tether to a jailbroken iPhone.

    Hi,

I've just got my UX31E in the UK with 128GB ADATA SSd (7.9 in performance index) and Sentellic pad (this sucks!).

I have updated the bios to 207 and the Sentellic driver to the latest on the Asus site and the trackpad still sucks. I hope they fix that.

Interestingly, I hear an audible "click click" every three seconds coming from the back left section of the unit. Does anybody else hear this?
