    Hey :)

    I bought the ux31 i5 + Elantech tp +128GB Sandisk SSD and I have a few problems :

    - the screen produces some high pitched sound (a whistle)
    - my usb 3.0 hdd sometimes disconnects by itself as if there wasn't enough power. It works fine on my old vaio and this probem doesn't occur with my usb 2.0 hdd
    - when connecting the pc to my tv via micro-hdmi cable, it stops transmitting the digital signal when I move the ux31, I noticed that the micro-hdmi connector (of the cable) could slightly "move" when plugged in, thus I suppose that the pins don't touch each other anymore (but can't figure out if this is because of the port or because of my cable).

Does anyone have the same issues ?

Just got a UX31E-DH52 from Amazon US today. Elantech touch pad and aData 128G with 7.9 WEI.

I disabled the touch click on the pad (it's really sensitive), but otherwise, there is no problem with the touchpad. All the multi-touch gestures works wonderfully. No precision problems or cursor jumping.

Applied all Win7 patches, updated bios and Atheros WiFi drivers using Asus update utility. Then backed up to ISO via USB 3 port to a USB 3 Seagate GoDrive.

I have experienced none of the problems griped about yet. This sexy laptop is a Christmas present for my wife, so after setting this up, it'll get wrapped up in a couple of days.

I use a maxed out Sony Z11/12/13 with 512Gb RAID 0, 8Gb RAM, Blu-Ray burner, 1920x1280 HD screen, etc myself. And I'm impressed with this Zenbook so far. The instant resume and standby time is impressively better than my Z!

New revision of UX31? Did they mention if a differed digit would be affixed to the UX31 model name or simply updates?

M3 rocket - just a quick question, what's the sound quality / volume like on the Sony Z's compared to the UX31?

    Cheers,

Perhaps most of the people who don't have problems are not here to announce it.

P.S. I have no problems after updates.

I don't have any problems either. I just dumped everything on the notebook once I got it... then I installed a clean Win 7 Ultimate and updated all the drivers to the latest (besides the bios which still is 206 and the drivers correlating to the bios).

I have a Sandisk SSD which is slow when I run the test, but I didn't experience this during real life yet. On the weekend I'll move all files from my old laptop over and I'll give a feedback on speed after that.

I don't seem to have any other problem. The fan runs randomly when plugged in, but it doesn't bother me. Keyboard is smooth, I don't have any issues typing and it doesn't seem to miss keys (guess this is related to the style of typing).

Oh, there is one thing (of course). I seem to experience the "hinge problem" once the screen is not completely upright. It always slowly moves to the "fully open" position. Is there a way to fix it? Can I get a hold on that myself somehow?

Ok cool. Thanks for letting me know. The Zenbooks are amazing but the first generation has lots of kinks to work out. My order is still on back order. I am still debating if I should just cancel and wait a bit longer.

So the only way to have no problems is update everything (including a BIOS flash that could brick your system) or wipe everything and do a fresh install?

That's not a very consumer friendly way to sell this notebook. It should be good to go out of the box... much like the infamous fruit brand.

I always do a fresh install.
Don't understand why everyone is so against that nowadays it's pretty much impossible to mess something up.

Anyways, I need a computer basicly now. So I'm contemplating on buying the UX31 tomorrow.

If a revised model is surfacing somewhere near the future how do you think Asus will handle customers returning faulty units or (the UX31 E?)

This notebook if AMAZING. Beautiful, Sleek and very lightweight.

Yes, I did have all the issues everyone complained about. Mostly wifi and the trackpad. BUT, after the updates, (all drivers and most recent bios), everything is running smoothly!

I have no issues with the keyboard. I did in the beginning where the trackpad would move the curser around and make me type over what was already typed.

But no issues with it now. Super fast laptop. I have the Sentelic touchpad. And everything is fine so far. It's blazing fast, runs quiet and very cool. Doesn't get warm like my old HP DV1000.

I was debating between the MBA, the Lenovo U300S and the UX31e.

I was very close to getting the US300s but no one had it in stock. Everyone has a MBA so I am happy I got the UX31.

I got mine on Nov 14th.

And yes, there is a buzzing noise from from this laptop when using it late at night when it's quiet. is this?

Bannanachipz, I finally bought my UX31 and would love to calibrate the screen using your ICC profile. If it's not too much trouble would you share it with us? :)

Also, if anyone else out there has calibrated their UX31 screen with a Spyder or equivalent calibration tool I would also like to see your ICC profile if you don't mind sharing!

Interesting find regarding the crappy Sentelic touchpad. The touchpad itself isn't bad at all on a hardware level, it's just the drivers that are naf! Uninstall the drivers and just let the Windows drivers do their thing. No more locking, jumping or any other weird behaviour. The pad just works again. The down side of course is that you lose multitouch gestures but this at least suggests this may eventually be fixed by a newer driver someday.

If you mean the 9.1.7.7 Sentelic driver released October 15th then for me its horrible! I'd love to get multitouch back but not while the cursor jumps and stutters around.

For me it's working fine 98% of the time. Every now and then it would start to jump and stutter and I have to reboot.

I downloaded the new Live Update software they just released today. And downloaded all the current updates for my laptop.

So that good I think. Whereas previously, Live Update would not work for jack shlt.

So besides that and the BUZZING noise, everything else is fine. Not sure if the buzzing noise is the fan or the LCD screen at the moment.

I dont believe in what this website claims anymore. No sources at all, it seems everything completely guessed. The very same website claimed some weeks ago that the ultabook sells will be quite below the expectations, now comes a completely opposite new... blahhh

Anyway it will be nice a new revision in the beginning next year.

    Left speaker issue

    Hi all
I bought a week ago UX31E (i7 128GB ADATA) from X-KOM from POLAND. It is the only shop in Poland where I could buy it.
After updatingthe drivers and downgrade the WIFI driver to 9.2.1.432 everything workedwell.
Then I installed Winamp 2.95 and play THE XX - „INTRO”. at the beginning of the song is heard awful crackles.
When I moved the slider on the left side of the balance, it appeared that only the left speaker is not working properly.
Shop Service claims that another UX31 play as badly. I do not believe them.
I send it back and now waiting for new one.
My old Lenovo T61 plays everything without crackling

Can you see how that looks in your UX31?

So here's a question. I was always told to never image a SSD drive as it messes with how the drive balance the bits.

Can we get some standardized tests (Crystal?) from people using the pre-loaded image and from people who have installed a clean OS?

Unless OEMs have a way of loading drives that won't adversely affect the SSDs...

Perhaps there's something wrong with the driver. Where did you buy your mini hdmi cable? Is it a cheapo cable from a China-based web site? They usually suck and don't work.

Did you try to work out the settings? Maybe the UX31 does not automatically output to the HDMI. Did you try something like FN+f8 ?

Anyone knows how to enable Write Cache for the SSD?

Im on a ux31 128gb sandisk, and my WEI for disk transfer rates is only 5.9.

Further, the graphics is only 5.6. Any ideas??

Enable write cache should be enable on windows 7. Right click C drive and go to Properties. click on hardware tab and then click on properties tab. Go to Properties tab. Policies tab. btw all Sandisk ssd in the UX31 gets only a 5.9. The Adata ssd gets 7.9

Thanks, i saw it enabled by default. This is frustrating. You're paying the same amount of money for the zenbook and it has varying standards in the ssd.

Is there any way to get Asus to replace my SSD with the adata/sandforce one? or am i pushing my luck?

I dont think Asus will replace it. The only way is to return it and hopefully you get a Adata drive instead of a Sandisk. I believe only the i5 version come with either the Adata or Sandisk but the i7 is all Sandisk..

    Not in Germany.

    I have the i7 128GB -> ADATA XM11 / 7,9

I read many complaints but can`t confirm many. For me just little bumps (like keyboard) to get used with it. Only WIFI was not working right the first day. But now its working for 5 days without a problem.

At $799... it's hard not to buy one... you basically get on par Windows performance and a lighted keyboard like an MBA but with more ports.

I think I've said this before but I can sell my 2010 MBA for about $900 and trade "up" to the z835 (use the change to get a Bluetooth USB mini dongle if I really need BT... and the z835 has an extra USB port available).
