Haaa !
I have an ASUS U36SG and last night I decided to "clean up" the installed programs that I never use, so I proceeded to uninstall the Oberon Media (Game Park) games...
When I booted up the next day, I had grey vertical lines on my Asus u36s screen and that was it !
I can plug in an external monitor and it works fine, but no way can I get the built-in laptop screen to work any more even after several "restore" attempts !!!
Oberon appears to have destroyed the video screen driver (or something)....
I'm considering doing a full re-install :-( if I can't find another solution soon.
Has anyone fixed this problem yet ?
Thanks,
John -
Great info indeed, but it would be better if you could add warnings about adverse effect when using, enabling, modifying, disabling or uninstalling these programs.
One that obviously need huge ominous warning is the accursed FancyStart. It's a ticking bomb that may brick your laptop, and the worst part is it would brick in seemingly random pattern, maybe when you try to use the feature, uninstal the feature when still enabled in BIOS, enable the feature in BIOS when program not installed, reinstall OS when enabled (effectively "removing" it), or maybe it may do no harm and work like charm.
I'd experienced several not-so-soft brick because of these little program and had to remove BIOS battery. A friend with this exact problem hands his laptop to service center (still under warranty) and somehow harddisk ended up replaced. No way i'll hand my harddisk to stranger, not to mention that the original harddisk not returned. -

How up to date is this list perchance?
-
Else you could always do as I did initially and read through all 41 pages of posts
But considering the date you joined and the date you posted your question, I presume you recently bought an ASUS Notebook else are enquiring because you are considering buying one...
The OP contains many things which were in my partners ASUS (which I removed after numerous Google searches) and two which I will remove later today.

As per my thread in the Site Suggestions etc Forum ( something I mentioned in my previous post here in this thread:
She bought a ASUS X553MA and after two weeks Google searches & using whats in this threads OP, here's my breakdown of what is (or was) in the XM553MA (in not particular order):
Splendid - still pre-installed but the link in the OP is no longer available so maybe amend the OP.
Smart Logon - I saw it somewhere in the X553MA so it's probably still there.
LiveUpdate - still pre-installed.
WINFLASH - still pre-installed.
Fine if you want it but from what I was taught years ago; Never flash the BIOS unless you are told to do so by the manufacturer's techie because if you flash to the incorrect update you can easily end up with an electronic brick. Replacement of the brick will often require buying a new computer & binning the old ( unless you have a preset extended warranty etc ).
Power4Gear - I saw it somewhere...
Fastboot - It's pre-installed and works but not found an option to remove it so maybe in win8.1?
Cyberlink Power2Go - saw it somewhere in C:\eSupport but not found how to activate it. Maybe a Win7 or Win8 option that never fully got removed?
ASUSWebStorage - Pre-installed and like any Cloud offering... Your choice.
ASUSAppStore - Pre-installed and the less I say about this the better...
KB Filter - does as per OP.
ATKOSD2 - saw it somewhere...
ATK Hotkey - seems a pre-install but can't be removed!
ASUS Screen Saver - I binned that!
Welcome Kit - it's buried in C:\eDriver\Windows\ASUS\Videos\ Not watched it having to have to find whats in teh computer so probably already know...
The rest of whats listed in the OP are no-longer available to anyone owning a X553MA.
DO NOT try to get either of the following as they only work on an ASUS running under Win7 (or earlier):
ASUS AI Recovery
ASUS e-Driver
Note for the Mods: Move or update etc as you see fit. -
Not on list:
- ATK package - presuming just all the ATK items in one pack. Kept
- ASUS check device
- ASUS usb charger plus
- Audiowizard
- Device setup -
Hello. I recently got an Asus X553MA for my father and have removed all the bloatware I could but would be grateful if someone could advise me on what else I could remove (see screenshot). I only want to keep anything that is essential to the running of the laptop. I also want to keep Chrome, Foobar and VLC. Would ideally do a clean reinstall but don't have enough time. Many thanks
