fyi - the screen quality looks horrible based of the pics i've seen imo. a lot of faded/washed out colors around the edges and really bad angles....anyone else notice that?

Wow, that looks like one nice laptop.

I hope they are are least able to make it at least a couple hundred cheaper than the air.

well, according to this article: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2386149,00.asp

they said it would be cheaper than the 11" Air so it should at least be less than $999...looking forward to more information about this.

God, this is beautiful. I've been waiting for a UX refresh, and this is just too good to be true. I'm loving the design.

    METAL KEYS!!!!

I just hope that the battery life is good. There's no mention of it, which has me a bit worried.

The MBA doesn't have backlit keyboard either. The Samsung series-9 does, though.

Why stop at backlit keyboard? Why not throw in a dedicated GPU in there as well? Also it would be nice to see a 3rd USB as well... ;)

In all honesty there is so much they can fit into one small package while trying to keep up with the competition in so many fields (Size, hardware and price).

I wouldn't be too optimistic about the battery life. The 11" air doesn't have very good battery life either.

AMAZING bit of engineering if the i7 goes in and still gets around 4-5 hours though

Pity about the screen. Typical Asus quality: low res, low brightness, limited viewing angles, backlight bleed.

Asus is my favorite manufacturer otherwise in laptops, but they just do not understand good screens at all.

Since the USB ports are separated on each side...
How are we to plug in external optical drives/harddrives apart from lugging an extension usb? :p

You guys think this will come in a 13” as well? I’m looking for at 13” notebook, and can wait until September if this is the case. Otherwise I’m thinking about the Samsung 9 Series.

I tried the samsung series 9 weeks ago, well, it felt cheap like $800- laptop.

Sony SB felt pretty solid, the only problem is it's 1 grand, and u33jc is $475 right now with rebate.

These things have a mini HDMI *AND* mini DisplayPort, right? If so, any idea if they're capable of driving both at once?

I'm trying to decide between grabbing a Samsung 9 series now or waiting until September (hopefully at the latest) for one of these. Right now I'm weighing the pros and cons of each notebook. Obviously there's a lot to be seen (like the UX21's battery life, screen quality, etc.) but if it can drive two displays at once while the Samsung 9 series can only drive one, that would help my decision.

I'm pretty sure it can only output from one of them, not both. Most standard video cards can output one analog and one digital at the same time. You'd need specialized video card (i.e. AMD's Eyefinity Edition) to output to multiple digital sources.

Man, this thing needs to hurry the hell up and get here! September seems so far away. :(

I'm still itching to see what Apple pulls out of their sleeve with the Macbook Air refresh, but I'm just not keen on switching to a Mac. I was originally tempted to get a Samsung Series 9, but the WiFi issues and partially plastic construction just turn me off.

Here's to hoping the screen panel is at least decent!

I just can't bring my self to buy a laptop now, it just seems like there will be major changes in the next 6 months.., i will just wait it out

SATA III doesn't have to be expensive. Look at Crucial M4 or Agility 3 pricing.

I have no clue what formfactor SSD Asus will be using in UX21. It might even be impossible that the SSD is replaceable.
