Anyone know what the UMB/UMBBUS device is (Device ID in Device Manager)? That seems to be the only device in Device Manager that doesn't have a driver on my W3j, but I can't seem to figure out which drivers I may have not installed?

    Thanks.

for p4g click on the power options the battery sign in the task bar and click on power4gear. It looks good but its functionality is terrible and it uses a LOT of system memory so i gladly got rid of it

Is there any description as to what each driver (mainly the undescriptive ones) do?

I have vista installed on my V1JP and the only ones that seemed to install with the included disc were:
    - ATKACPI (what's this?)
    - Audio
    - Ricoh Media Card Reader
    - FIR Driver
    - Camera
    - Finger Print Driver (doesn't work tho)

Got the updated ATI Video driver.
    Anything else you all recommend?

Only some of my FN functions are working... wondering what I would need to install.

Wow thanks Ken, Bender! This'll be useful if Vista Enterprise doesn't come with the drivers for all the hardware on my S96J.

    HI There

I just installed Vista on my Asus M6Ne Laptop computer, and I can´t get the internal Ricoh cardreader to work. Do you have any solutions to that problem??

I think the cardreader is an R5C593, I hope you can help me... when i take a look at my hardware in the Device manager, I get an error (when the Sd Card is inserted, when I remove it the error dissapears... look under here:

Error = Microsoft WPD FileSystem Volume Driver

I tried the driver from this string without any luck..

I also need a driver for my Canon Pixma IP4000R printer (wireless edition), untill know nothing usefull is found.

Tahnks a lot for helping me.

    Best regards
    Leon

No. From the ASUS function key Fn+F5/F6 XD!
You need it for P4G to work. P4G allows you to change brightness from Vista's Power Options

A couple questions to those that have installed Vista already.

Are signed drivers required? i.e. Can you use the Omega drivers or are you forced into official graphics card drivers? Also, were you given the choice of 32-bit or 64-bit when you installed/upgraded (if you have a 64-bit capable processor)? The upgrade center told me the disk they send out has both on it and you can select which you want to install as you upgrade, but for some reason, I won't believe it 'till I hear that from somebody who's done it. Actually, asking people who've already installed it might not help since they're not using the upgrade version we'll be getting from Asus anyway. Oh well...

    Thanks,
    ~ Brett

No dice, but ATKDrv alone allows me to control the brightness with the function keys. Plus, P4Gx is too extreme for my poor ol' W3V.

I asked Asus last Friday about the BisonCam driver, should be up pretty soon, I let you guys know.

Asus server is slow, sometimes you get broken link and sometimes it works.

    GenTechPC,

Have you heard anything from ASUS about the W3J updates for vista? When will they post them on the ASUS site?

More than that. The drivers for the W3J listed here are not actually from the W3J upgrade page; they're all from other computers which Asus has posted updates for that we're hoping will work with the W3J as well. A BIOS update is also lacking and there have been numerous reports of audio driver issues. Basically, Asus has done nothing to prepare W3J owners for Vista whatsoever...

Nrbelex said it all. When will ASUS provide driver support for W3J owners? I understand that ASUS has phased out the W3, but we need updated drivers for Vista which will be out in a couple days. GentechPC please ask ASUS when or if they will be updating the drivers page on the ASUS site. Also I'm referring to all the drivers not just the bios.

Unfortunately, I don't have Vista yet so I can't say for sure... but proper video drivers and sound drivers are two which definitely need an update. The rest may or may not work (I can't test) but it would be nice if Asus confirmed it by putting compatible programs under the W3J page instead of forcing us to use their programs intended for computers like the G1. It just feels weird installing software intended for another model computer (which is every driver listed since there are literally no recent updates on their page for the W3J). If the programs are compatible, all they need to do is post them again under the W3J upgrade page to make us happy.

Yes I agree with you, they should update drivers for each model and make everybody happy.
But the ATI driver should work for all models so is some of the other drivers? anyway I'll tell them tomorrow as it says "Vista Capable" on W3J sitcker. :D

The Splendid package installs, but doesn't seem to do anything, either when run via the icon or when the button on the left is pressed.

The Power4Gear doesn't seem to work for me on the W3j. There are no P4G options in the Vista battery monitor for me (that I saw), and the P4G button on the left doesn't switch profiles.

I'm using the Catalyst Mobility Video Drivers from ATI/AMD, and they seem to work just fine. My Performance Index is 4.7, with most items ranging from 4.7-4.9 on my 2Ghz W3j.

Edit - Oh, here's a tip that I came across over the weekend: If Vista can't find the driver, select "Have Disk" and point it at 'C:\Windows\System32'. I don't know why 'Search my Computer for the right Driver' doesn't look in here, but after finding this tip (which I should've known to try myself), I managed to get a driver for that one 'unknown' device in Device Manager as well as 'find' drivers for 2 different USB Memory sticks that I just couldn't get working under Vista before.

You can access P4G from the Power Options icon in the taskbar

    YaHsin Camera Driver

I think the Bisoncam NB Pro is an ALi based camera, not chicony or Yahsin, so I doubt those would work.

    Hi,

Several of us W3J users are unable to even install Vista. It goes into a reboot loop after it prompts "Press any key to boot into CD"

This seems to be only a problem for those using the Yonah 1.83Ghz variant from what I noticed. Can you help us ask Asus about it? :)

I think I have the latest BIOS update, but I re-installed (installed? Maybe I skipped one?) the ATK Hotkey and ATK OSD drivers and everything seems to be working now! The OSD does seem a little sluggish to respond, but that's OK...

Thanks for the post and the help!

So it is. Is there anything Vista specific about that 2.10 BIOS? The two fixes it notes I don't seem to have a problem with, and with all the latest drivers posted here, I seem to be running pretty well, so I'm not going to jump on that update unless I think it may fix a problem that I haven't noticed yet. I will, however, be uninstalling that useless Asus Update app - this BIOS was out for 3 months and it never notified me? Bah...

That program is AWFUL. It has memory leaks and never notifies you of updates. I disabled it too. They may have made some more changes to the BIOS not noted and BIOS updates are nowhere near as stressful as they used to be so maybe its worth a try. The Asus program Winflash is really easy to use.

Really appreciate the compilation of drivers - it was really helpful!

I have everything on my W2v working except the TV tuner card. I don't even know what kind it is - anybody know, or know where I could find a driver?
