Uninstall P4G. It is useless. Use Vista's default power management. I assume you want the screen to dim and the computer to slow down/save power when on Battery, which Vista handles just fine.

There are a whole bunch of useless Asus crap that you don't need including:

ATK Media (I think it opens media player?)
Probably ATK OSD2 (I have no idea what this does)
    Power 4 Gear
    Asus NB Probe (always wrong)
    TPM drivers

    Hi there.

Recently I bought an ASUS G1-AK029G which has Windows Vista Ultimate and a Nvidia GeForce Go 7700. I love the machine however I'm starting to get graphic driver issues with it. When I'm adjusting graphic settings, when UAC prompts or when something involved the aero interface sometimes the screen blacks out and once it recovers Windows gives me this message:
    http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/2600/drivermp6.jpg

If it doesn't give that message it gives a blue screen instead.

As suggested by someone on another forum, I've been to laptopvideo2go.com to find a driver there. The graphics performance did improve but it didn't solve this issue.

After that I went to the ASUS website and installed their latest driver. As it turns out it was identical to the driver that was pre-installed but this time it wasn't digitally signed and it was very buggy causing my entire notebook to slow down.

I booted the computer into Safe Mode and completely uninstalled the graphics driver. I decided to let Windows decide what to install. It installed a driver slightly older 7.15.10.9802 driver version but it was dated on the 19/01/2007. The pre-installled graphics driver which is identical to the ASUS driver on their website has a driver version of 7.15.11.0040 and is dated sometime in December, 2006. Shouldn't a newer driver version be dated later than a previous driver version?

Anyway the graphics driver is fine again for the moment. Any suggestions on how to solve this issue?

Whenever you uninstall/install graphics drivers, it's always good to be thorough in cleaning out the old files - Driverheaven's Driver Cleaner is considered to be a godsend for serious tweakers who try out different drivers often, or even for people having problems with their current drivers.

Nvidia apparently is lagging with providing Vista-compatible drivers for their Go 7 Series - something that obviously doesn't help you. My only definite advice is to wait for a compatible driver release (or look around for someone's hacked version, though I doubt there are any for Vista yet), and maybe check out Driver Cleaner and do a clean install of the graphics drivers.

so what Asus driver do we "NEED" to install to get the laptop functioning...at first my laptop booted up in a couple of seconds...after installing p4g and all the asus stuff it takes for ever to reach the point when the wireless logs on to the network and the system finishes booting....
i'm changing my harddrive so i want to do a clean install, with least garbage in the background....
    any help would be appreciated....

Chipset, Graphics, peripherals (your mouse/card reader/web cam whatever you want to use), Sound, Ethernet/Wireless, ATK ACPI utility, Bluetooth. That's it.

i have a w3j running on vista business. i have all the drivers installed, including power4gear extreme. however, some of the side buttons aren't working properly, and there's no power4gear system tray icon (the one that shows up in xp). the sidebuttons that aren't working are the power4gear button, splendid monitor settings, and the media player keys. any idea why?

zonda, there've been several reports that you need to install the drivers/programs in a certain order, especially for the hotkeys. i'm afraid i can't find the specific pages in this thread that refer to it, but they're there. i believe people have been having different accounts of what order works - you should try the different methods to see what works for you.

Do we even need to install the Intel Proset software when using vista?

Never. If a dialog box pops out when you press the hotkey button for the wireless saying it requires Intel Pro/set to function, thats crap. Install ATK hotkey, and it'll work just fine. Vista's wireless utitlity is equal to the pro/set software.

Guys, i have an X600SE. The drivers from the NBR installed, but there is no Catalyst Control Center for me to fine tune. How do i resolve this? as the battery life is taking a toll.

    thanks!

Hey everyone, I just created a Vista partition and am now dual-booting an A8JP. I got everything in Vista to work except for the integrated webcam. It's detected in Device Manager under Imaging devices, but it doesn't show up in My Computer. I also installed the latest drivers on the Support Page. Has anyone with an A8 who had to upgrade to Vista get their webcam working? Any help would be appreciated!!

 I already did --did you read my post, "I also installed the latest drivers on the Support Page"? I see it in device manager -- however none of my programs or apps in Vista seem to recognize it. In XP all I needed to do was open up Windows Explorer and the webcam would be a device I can double-click and open up to preview. Now it is nowhere to be seen in Vista except for Device Manager.

Guess I'll try installing the XP version of Lifeframe and see what happens

A driver is a driver. The webcam needs software. www.download.com

MSN messenger, yahoo messenger or w/e else can do video chatting will use your webcam, as well as other webcam software you can download.

Thanks MelchiorZ, you're right -- seeing it in Device Manager should be an indicator that everything is fine.

Does the current Power4Gear switches between Aero Basic and Aero when on battery and AC respectively?

Yep. It switches to Basic at low power settings when on battery - it's pretty handy.

(Sorry for the late reply btw)

Erm, no. It did not change to Vista Basic. It went to Windows Aero Standard (AERO glass without the glass) instead. Am i missing something here? i'm using Vista Business x64.

The basic interface that comes with Home basic. I've to switch it manually. :(

What is the link for the latest hcontrol and acpi?
My battery isn't charing and holding a charge well and I think it could be a bad version of one of the two apps listed above.

My mobility Radeon X600 at W3V Notebook, dosen't support this driver....
I think the problem in Catalyst... because it didn't support it at all... the original XP driver was exact for my W3V x600 only (without Catalyst software)...
So is there anyone know, where I can get it?

Link no longer works. Did ATI release the final version yet? Got a link to it?

I'm running an ancient version on my Vista 64-bit W2P since there have been no newer versions listed on the North America Asus webite for the W2P since December of last year.

I suppose I can try the 8.33 version with a 3/20/07 date listed in the first post, but given that the version is the same, I'm not sure this is any newer than what I already have?

Also, how can I tell which version of Catalyst I'm running based on the above screenshoot? When I do the "About" from the help menu from within Catalyst CC, I get version 1220.2127.2446.38319, which looks nothing like the 7.1 or 7.1 or whatever version I was expecting to see.
