Got an S6F and using Vista 32. Using all the drivers previously mentioned. 4 problems left, would appreciate some help..

    1. Powerprofiles don't change the screen brightness. I can change it with the Fn+F5/F6 keys manually. Tried with and without power4gear.

    2. 9 times out of 10 the hardware switch to disable/enable wireless (bt +/- Wifi) does nothing. If you quit the wireless console and reload it, the PC then updates the wireless status to correspond to the switch position.

    3. I always get 2 copies of the wireless console icon in the system tray. I've only got the software in the startup folder for my user. It's not in the registry run key or in the all users startup folder.

    4. Can't get card reader to work. Doesn't recognise the ricoh drivers. I have 5 entries in the device manager with yellow exclamation marks:
    SDA standards compliant SD controller
    Base System Device (x3)
    OHCI 1394 thingy (firewire).

Interestingly if I lock the 1394 devices in the bios all of those entries disappear, so the card reader must be tied in with the firewire port.

I'm most bothered about question 2 and 3.
    Thansk.

I read through most of the thread but didn't see answers to my questions, so does anybody know if there are solutions the following issues or if anybody sees the same thing? (I basically installed all of the drivers on the front page), with the exception of a slightly older ATKOSD2 which seems to work better for me on my A8JS).

    1) I have Hcontrol.exe, ATKOSD.EXE, and ATKOSD2.EXE. It seems to be the only way I can get things to work
    2) My OSD is a pretty fancy graphic that shows in the middle of the screen using my ATKOSD dated from 070117. If i use the one on the front page dated 070125, I have the old XP top left one but it doesn't work. Is this expected?
    3) my atk0100 driver itself always installs older atkosd.exe and hcontrol.exe into c:\windows\atk0100. is this normal?
    4) I cannot save my power profile settings. Inside the same windows 'session', if i save it and look at it it's set, and it will work for that session, but after a reboot or a sleep and restore, the settings have been reset to default. Anybody else have this problem?
    5) I cannot always change the screen brightness from max-min. On a fresh reboot, it's limited to a range of maybe 1/4-1/3. If I sleep and restore, I have full range, but on restore it's full brightness. If I sleep again, then it restores on full brightness but i have a range of full to maybe 80%.

I'm assuming it's the drivers, and not vista causing these problems.

Thanks to this thread, I have been able to solve all but one of my A8Js Vista Drivers. The only one I still have an issue with is the Synaptics (touchpad). It does not appear to be digitally signed and every time I log into Windows, I get a warning window about it regardless of whether I uncheck the "check this program every time" box.

Anyone else have this problem and has anyone found a solution?

There is an updated Catalyst driver for the X1700/X1400/X1600/X1450 here:

    http://dlsvr05.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/G2P/VGA_vista_070320.zip

    Dated 3/20/07

I don't know if its Cat 7.2 or not... I'm downloading it now for my A8Jp.. will report.

You can change the Dsvr # to 1-4, I find the Japanese server to be the fastest. (around 100kb/s), all the others crawl.

Edit: Tried the install, states my drivers & CCC are already up to date... darn. Asus hurry up with Vista 7.2 Cats please! ATI get off your lazy butt and make drivers that support Vista and 7.2.

I don't know it has anything to do with the BIOS, what BIOS version you have? also try reinstall the Intel INF update see if that helps.

I actually downloaded a driver directly from synaptic that is signed and I'm no longer getting the warning window. It is v9.1.0 27Oct06. The only problem now is that it does not give me the option to disable the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in.

I'll download and install the one from this thread again and report back.

OK, I just downloaded and reinstalled V9.1.5 and everything is great. I must have downloaded the wrong one the first time around.

Power4Gear and Splendid are the only two things I don't have installed and working now. Neither of which I terribly miss but do others have these working on the A8Js?

Don't install Power4Gear, install Power4Gear Extreme, it works for A8JS.

And here is the Splendid Utility:

Well the only two that i knew of was NHC (doesn't work with vista yet) and RM clock. you might just have to be patient.

I'm going to format, install XP again, then dual boot Vista. I've dual booted on my desktop.

I also just received my Asus express upgrade with i installed on my desktop, it said it was an upgrade but just installed onto my 2nd HDD fine. It also cane with a driver disc that had a bios update on it which wasnt even on the website.

Next i found out that Asus removed all drivers for my A6T from their driver section yesterday.... hope it was just a glitch..

just so you guys know, these drivers don't work with all asus notebooks using the specified hardware. the ATK0100 HControl thing doesn't work with the V6Va (replaces the vista default but then completely bugs out. on the reboot AFTER the reboot following the installation, the driver lags vista to hell 100% CPU usage, totally unusable)

I have been trying to get my G1 working with XP Professional x64, but there are still a number of drivers I haven't been able to work out yet. Can you post a list of just those drivers pertaining to XP Pro x64 for the G1? It's making me crazy!

    Here's what's happening.........

On bootup, once the desktop comes up, I get 3 popup error windows:

ASUS Multiframe - Multiframe can only be run on ASUS Laptops! Please check whether ASUS ATK Driver is installed
D3dcheck - ASUS ATK ACPI Driver not found!
ERROR - Can't open ACPI ATK0100 kernel Mode Driver

I can close those out and go on.

In Device Manager, there are a number of issues I have not been able to fix:

    IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers/Base System Device (yellow !)
Imaging devices/USB 2.0 Image Capture Controller (yellow !)
Other devices/Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus (yellow ?)
    /Unknown device (yellow ?)
    /USB device (yellow ?)

Finally, whenever I try to drag a window by the top blue bar, or move other items around, the display response is VERY sluggish. It redraws about 4 frames per second. Graphics/display driver????

Other than these issues, the G1 is terrific. Overall response is superb, once I get these drivers done it'll be perfect. Display is gorgeous, although I don't really like the widescreen aspect ratio, graphics and images are slightly squeezed vertically, prefer standard 4:3, but I'll have to live with it!

I would not suggest using those Nvidia drivers from Asus. The best way is to go
    here:

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?drivers&series=100&os=3&type=1&dir=1

Download the latest drivers, go into the forums and download the modified INF file and off you go with the latest Nvidia drivers on your GO cards.

Now if only somebody is willing to modify the Catalyst 7.3s for Vista 32/64, I would jump all over that. I'm still using the Asus drivers... which cause my screen to flicker. .. (I believe they are 7.1s).

    Hi there,

I installed Windows Vista Business 32-bit today on my M6Va notebook. I can get everything to work, exept for the Infrared controller. Windows Vista in fact has drivers for it, but the device always give a "This device won't start properly" error. I've also tried some other SMSC IrCC drivers from Dell, again they do support the type of Infrared controller but I still get the same error. The controller works fine under Windows XP.

Any ideas, or do people with an M6Va/Z70Va have the same problem?

    Thanks.

For those of you who want the Mobile Catalyst 7.3 drivers for Vista 32 bit, you can get them here:

    http://asustreiber.de/download.php?view.496

I have successfully installed these on my A8Jp, but keep in mind the BSOD IS a problem.. I couldn't figure out what was causing it, but some changes in my system config (In my case, I changed the DPI), and I totally could not fix the system. I did a system restore, and all is fine now, so I'm not touching any more settings that will change the graphics...

So far, I haven't gotten any new Mobile Cats drivers to install in 64 bit.

    Hi Ken and everyone,

I just installed Vista premium on my S96J and have the same problem. Microphone doesnt work at all in all programs including sound recorder and Skype. In Realtek HD Audio manager there is an option to choose between external and internal microphones and it is set to the external microphone and it is impossible to switch it to internal microphone.

Does anyone know any solution to this problem?
    Thanks!

Is anyone having a problem with the NB Probe program? I can't use it at all (I just get error messages or a messed-up application window), and I can't even uninstall it normally. It seems like a really strange problem that no one's mentioned - I can't find any complaints about it anywhere.

Ever since I've owned notebooks neither nvidia nor ATI supply mobile drivers, but I've never used the manufacturer's video drivers either. Doesn't omega or other custom driver support your card?

(I have the a8js and have been using a modified nvidia driver with vista64)

I have a question for everyone. I just upgraded to Vista Business (got it from school) and after 5 days realized that Power4Gear Extreme did nothing. When I change to different profiles the screen does not dim or nothing. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

My lcd also does not turn back on when it is turned off through closing the lid or leaving the laptop alone for a while. I was also wondering if anyone knew how to fix this, or if anyone had this problem.

Right now it just seems like its the little things spoiling my Vista experience, overall I like the look and feel but am really tempted to go back to xp for school purposes. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
