If you click on the pics they become 1024x768 size
And you ask what I think about W3 right? I wrote it in last sentence and it goes something like...
"The machine is great in every single aspect, even if it's not 100% ideal, just 95...well, nobody's perfect, leave that 5% for next occasion." I think it's the perfect summary of this laptop.

The click is not working for me - IE - I deplore you!

    What's the 5%?

5% - hmm it's couple minor things like 4200 rpm hdd, no DVI, display not so good comparing to Sager, no webcam. Like I said, for me - it's nothing, but think how better this laptop could be with 5400 hdd + DVI. With this it would be perfect. HDD I can replace but for this price (in Europe I paid over 2400$!!!!!) i would like to have something faster. But I won't complain - I have amazing laptop and that's what counts at the moment.

IE sucks man, on Opera it works great.

They didn't work for me on Firefox either...

I couldn't agree with you more on the 5%. I wish it had DVI too. But you can't win em all I suppose.

I bounce back and forth w/ Firefox and IE - thanks for the heads up the FF doesn't work (b/f I tried, which I was going to do).

DVI is a non-issue for me...I'm expecting that the hard drive speed will be as well (5,400rpm for US).

I'm just hoping I like the screen - res seems low but on a 14 inch I've been assured it's just right. Hopefully I agree - this is my first sub 15 inch laptop

Hmm strange, on my Opera it works like a charm. But if you erase the http://img486.imageshack.us/img486/7863/dysk13sg .th.jpg the TH from address it will open in full size.

TH is for thumb that's why pictures are so small.

I also added couple more random pictures in 5th post.

Is that an infra red port below the express card slot?

Looks like the screen has a built in mic, too.

Awesome pictures dude - thanks for making me remember why I was so smitten in the first place. This is the best I've been able to see it yet.

I'm amazed at the little aesthetic flourishes on there - like what the Asus logo is filled with, and around/in the power button. So high quality.

gusto5 yes i believe the mouse connects via bluetooth. but for the bag i think you only get that on the euro models. the N American models wont inc the bag if i remember reading it earlier from another post.

Thanks for all congrats - it's nice when somebody appreciate your work ;) glad you like it. Mouse is BT, it's Logitech V270 but with Asus logo. Bag is really good, I wanted to buy backpack but I think I will stay with the bag. CPU is T2400 (1,83) and that's enough for everything. There was no way no change it. And for the 3dmarks : I use newest Omega's + ATITool for OC. I saw that one picutre missed - it was screen with 3dm05 WITHOUT OC and the score was 3951. Oh and the OCed clocks are : 510/510 (stock 450/450).

Here's a random question that just occurred to me. With the power button on the outside of the closed laptop, does it disable the button when closed, or could it turn on if bumped in just the right way?

ASUS implemented a safety feature that won't let the computer turn on unless the screen is open to a certain degree. So you don't have to worry.

Will N. American models come with Bluetooth mouse? I thought they would come barebone (w/out mouse or bag)

before NA used to get freebies with their Barebone systems. However, things are getting cut back. So i don't think there are any free stuff with barebones.

The only freebie that i think MAY or MAY NOT come with it is the bag (case), the mouse, headset and anything else WILL NOT COME... especially to NA. All other countries get those freebies.

    Thanks,

@nocturne sa : hmm maybe it's not the best protection on market but I'm pretty satisfied with it. But if you have many laptop accesories and travel a lot you should think about buying something else. I just need to have laptop, power adapter, pencil and notebook so it's ok.

    @NZwaverider : Dell? Don't make me laugh ;)

What if the laptop is hooked up to an external screen, keyboard, and mouse? Does that mean you won't be able to turn it on unless you tip the screen open a bit? Sounds like a design flaw...

Don't ask me, I don't own a W3V or W3J as of yet, but I'm sure you can turn it on with the screen closed, if not. Well, you must be pretty lazy not to just lift up the screen, turn it on, then close it... not that big of a deal.

You should be able to set the screen switch to do nothing (or turn the laptop screen off) , at which point you can close the notebook and use everything external. I do that with my V6j, its just a setting in Windows, go into the power options.

You can use the notebook with the screen closed. you just have to turn it on with it open and switch to monitor then close the notebook. thats the way all notebooks are.

Is bluetooth a big deal? I am trying to decide between the w3j and the A8jm (like many others I'm sure) . W3j - BT, A8jm-no BT. The only thing I most likely will be doing with BT is using a mouse. I don't really like the dongles for the usb mice. Since I am going to be playing a few fps games, is the BT mouse a bad idea or a good idea? Will the newer BT in the w3j be ok for a mouse in fps games?
    thanks

Earthdan, bluetooth mice are fine for gaming. There are even quite a few mice out there with over 1000 dpi (800 dpi is still over twice as accurate as normal mice).

Bluetooth just gives you more options for expansion with peripherals...if you want to go with a BT Mouse, Keyboard, use it for a phone handset...etc, you can.

Personally I don't have anything that I NEED to use Bluetooth for, but I wouldn't want to be without the option.

I have the logitech dinovo keyboard mouse combo that runs with bluetooth and i realy like it. And if you are going to use a regular mouse often then i recomend you to get something that supports bluetooth to skip some cables when you are moving around. Also nice when you sync with your mobile to update schedules and contacts and stuff like that.

If you're really worried about bluetooth for your mouse.. I'd recommend getting the Logitech G7 mouse, it's 90$, currently the best mouse out there, with up to 2000 DPI!!!! I'm using a Logitech MX310 with 800dpi and its accurate as hell, i cant imagine what 2000DPI would do, but it is surely insane quality and performance. You'd probabiyl save a lot of money going with a G7 over the bluetooth in W3J.

The G7 is nice, but for earthdan, i think it would be overkill.

The Asus-branded logitech mouse (V270) that the international W3J ships with is very nice, and at 1000 dpi it has a lot of value for around $40

So the Asus A8Jm doesn't have BT? I thought it's included according to the specs by Asus. Although I do notice that it says "optional" beside it.

Also, according to the specs, there is an option for a 1.3MP camera but all the ones I have seen by retailers are the 0.3 MP one. How do you get the 1.3 MP?

Also you can check that 05 score is 3rd in Mobility X1600 category, and the 06 score is 1st!!:D with over 200 marks more!!than 2nd place. In 05&06 category first 8 places are Acers 8204 with faster CPU, faster memory and HDD!!
