So does this thread get any kind of special award as 'the longest conversation on a single product based entirely on conjecture and press releases'?

Well at this rate we might break that record......since Asus have still not pulled their finger out!!!

If they don't hurry up and at least say something to keep me interested, i'm gonna go out and get a Sony SZ!!

We can only hope that the ETA at Proportable is an accurate one. That's what I'm waiting for.

I am looking forward to, hopefully, getting the W3J aswell, however I would like a better screen resolution e.g. 1440x900 instead of 1280x768!

Does anyone know if there will be a variation of the W3J with a higher resolution??

This is my main grudge with my W3V(or all the sub 15.4" widescreen displays). Why is there no 14.1" Widescreen laptop with higher resolution than 1280x800? I hope to see a W3J variant with a WXGA+(1440x900) res screen especially now that AUO makes a 14.1" WXGA+ screen

Justin, porhaps you could push for this? You are probably the one with the mose influence here. If the Asus engineers don't read the forums.. If they do: Please give me more screen space for pr0n! ;)

I would doubt it. As an ensemble the W3 is pretty much 'what you see is what you get.' As has been addressed ad nauseum there are pieces that you can modify (hard-disk, CPU etc...) but I think the screen's standard. I don't know anything about 'built on ASUS' notebooks though. Does anyone know if there is a whitebook slated for release that's similar to the W3? If so, that's probably your best bet if you hope to get a higher resolution. (I've also heard that a higher resolution is really impractical on a 14" widescreen since it makes text nearly unreadable.)

what?! :p i hope so. i think so anyway. oh i went to the asus support shop yesterday, and i have a feeling it's outsourced. -gulp- anyway the dude there give me a number for the asus sole distributor in singapore. most of them out there in contact with us are just resellers. i know, cause i keep bugging them about w3j too. haha i'll try n ask them too.. but darius is from cnet asia, he should be a reliable source . . sigh

Screen resolution and dpi are really personal preferences. For those that like larger fonts you can always change the font size in windows, although it does make some things look funny. If you want dense I have a buddy that has a notebook with a 15.4" screen with 1920x1200 resolution.

I first have to say that I think it is funny that we are trying to break a record on a forum for the most number of replies - but if we are this far, lets just do it!

Anyway - I think that this screen resolution will be really good. Too much more and it would be very difficult to read. My brother used to have a 15" SXGA and I really liked the size, but for extended periods it got really annoying. I just hope the w3j makes it soon - my laptop has permanent lines on the screen from damage over time - that makes it really annoying to use.

I have no problem with the resolution as long as it has good color tone (hopefully not "cool") and is very bright.

Does anyone (PROPortable) know what the weight of the W3j will be?

Off-topic, what is your guys' ideal weight to carry a laptop around to school? (I know the smaller the better but, when you're sacrificing weight for performance, what is the heaviest you would like it)

^I hope the above made sense... :/

    w3 weigh ard 2 kg.

personally, for me it's more on the dimension issue than the weigh cause i dun want one that's hard to fit anywhere. of course if you travel for long hourss.. u wouldnt want anything above or nearing 3 kg. i think. :p

oh oh, OT and tangent. i spoke to singapore asus distributor.. and he said v6j/w3j coming here early may or end of april. yeaaay.. :p so it's really coming haha joy u get tat

well.. if its ok for me, it shd be ok for you since i'm a short girl. >.>
dimention wise, i think the w3j should be just fine coz the 15.4" lappys are all rather big to fit into my bags..

I'm hoping the w3j won't double as a portable warming plate.

That's been one of the knocks on the Macbook w/ the x1600 (and same/similar proc).

That's why part of me is thinking about the v6j - the graphics card isn't as powerful, but the rig won't get as hot either.

I'd prob. go w/ the Lambo if it wasn't over $2,500. We can all dream right?

It's also a bit thicker, so the cooling solution could be a bit more robust than what's available on the W3 chassis.

Acer 8204 is a system with loads of problems for a price of $2440CDN is a system i wana buy. Acer is cheap and afforable, but when it comes to quality acer is down ****py. Acer 8204 all most think its a uber system, but it really isn't. Someone reviewed it before and it aint what it is.

Recall that just a month ago Acer launched the 5762 or was it the 5672 and it was in the Aspire line...but it had DVD RW 8X, 2GB RAM...I don't know its speed...it may have been 667...it was at least 80 GB HD, but I think it was around 120HD....had Wi=fie a, b, g...15 wide XSGA ...for 1299....

it was on their site for a week....it was an ACER...felt like a good machine...

OS was...I think it was MS HOme....

    I didn't buy it...I was waiting to see the Z62F...also the Z35f...

for me, a diminutive small-boned- person, I believe that form will fit my sized hands, fingers and touch more comfortably than the magnificent and bold 15s that are the rage by my colleagues and friends. Everywhere I go, these young men and women seem to crave 15 inch and wide.

I have to move my eyeballs too far for that size. Makes me fatigued to follow that.
