I've been ordering online with my check card for two years, and I've never had a problem so far. I don't order from shady websites though... it's been mostly newegg, zipzoomfly, and ebay. When I'm ordering from lesser known sites, they usually accept paypal. so I use that instead. However, I noticed on your site that you accept money orders, so that would work fine as well. I don't think my check card would let me spend $1800 anyway, so that may be my only option. I'm 19 years old, and don't really feel the need for a credit card until I'm out of college. I ordered my Z71V from istnc, and since it was a graduation present from my dad, he used his credit card.

2-3 weeks sounds good though, so If I can't make the first shipment, I should be able to make the second.

Hey Justin, can you tell us a little about the bank wire. I am thinking about doing that when I order my w3j, but don't know much about it. Thanks.

... if you're in the US, I don't really suggest it... Mainly because between the fees on your side and the fees on our side... there's no real discount... For US orders, the only way we usually are able to get people discounts through a wire is when they are placing large orders... it just doesn't pay either of us for a single computer... now if you're doing it because you don't have a credit card or a checking account.. that's another story. Basically you just go to or call your bank and say I want this money of mine to go to this account... end of story.. they charge a nominal fee and it's cleared by the next day. It's basically like getting a certified check... but it's quicker and no mailing involved.. and just costs a little more.

.... Now, for international orders, that's really all we do since there is an immense issue with international credit card fraud and no way to guarentee funds... not a great way to do business... most international customers however are used to this type of transaction and understand why we use it for them.

.... regardless, if you need more info on anything, you could always email me.... anything applying to you may be different and we don't need to get into that in this thread.

Ahh, I can't wait for this laptop to come out, I was about to get a Sony SZ until my friend told me to wait another month (Sony kept pushing my ship date out) I might be able to catch one of these. A few quick questions for PROPortable, how many pre-orders do you usually take? and if I won't be able to get into the first batch how long is it between batches?

    thanks!

Dangsy, Justin has already answered all of your questions. Firstly, he said he didn't know how many units he could get in from the first shipment, so we have to wait until closer to arrival before pre-orders. Here an answer to your question about the time frame between shipments:

I can't wait to purchase this lappy...

I hear Intel is going to cut prices on some of the Core Duo chips in May. Will the W3J receive a price break because of this or will the price stay the same?

I'll tell all of your right now there isn't going to be a change to the Asus lineup..... it's all these little things that keep pushing people back and the exact reason we can't trust what anyone says when they are like.. i'm finally getting this one now....

.... all the asus models are basically coming witht he 1.6 ghz duo.. with the exception of the W2.... but regardless, this only affects the top tier cpu.... because that'll drop a lot, but it might change the cost of the 1.6 by a few bucks, but Asus is already planning on making less on the first models (because the current 1.6 is about $25-30 more than the current 1.8's that are in the W3v)... but they are basically keeping the new systems at the same cost.... so when they drop $30 or so... Asus will just recoop some of that money they didn't make.... there won't be a price drop till mid-summer is last year is any indication..

    Justin,

do you know if W3j is going to be upgraded for higher CPU?
will W3j chassis be re-designed or something changed?

    Thanks a lot !

    Justin,

My apologies if this has been answered before, but will the Asus W3J have any way to output to DVI either directly or via a port replicator?

All info is truly appreciated, and my apologies if this has been covered.

    Thanks!

I don't think that is possible. There is no port replicator for the W3 series.

I think the current speed of the dual core cpu that it is spec'ed with is great, but yeah, more speed would be nice (but not if it ups the price too much).

A 2.0 Dual Core would be certainly nice - if the Acer 8204 benchmarks are any indication, the 2.0 CPU + MRX1600 should be killer. I'd be happy with the 1.6, though, especially if it will minimize my waiting time. I've bounced between so many options and now I finally feel I'm set - W3J :D

k, correct me if im wrong..

but thre's no way to know just yet whether it'll have the same heat problem. but in short and as of now, the duo core is designed to be more efficient in terms of power consumption and how much work is done in one cpu pass. so arguably, it shouldnt be hotter than the old processors, but it should be more powerful.

oh, though, i think someone mentioned that the duo can withstand heat and operate normally up to 90 degrees celcius. erm. maybe they're just saying that to say that it can stand the heat if it had to.

Max RAM for the W3j is 4gb with 2 x 2gb sticks, but at the moment 2gb DIMMS are very difficult to find, as well as being expensive. I'm not sure if the BIOS currently supports 4gb, possibly only 2gb, but the Napa chipset can definately handle 4gb.

It should be roughly the same amount of heat.. the W3J may run a little hotter since it has the X1600 though.

Those 2 are very different laptops... you shouldn't have a hard time choosing between them as one is more of a work machine while the other is a portable gaming machine

So, one question would be: if you turned down the settings and voltage, wouldn't heat be less of a problem? Though, if you're gaming for hours on end I could see the heat being a pain/potential problem.

All this talk about heat is getting me worried!

If they release the W3J with only the 1.6 then i'm probably going to go with the Sony SZ. The only reason why they would put the 1.6 in would be to do with heat. That X1600 is going to warm things up.

I would like to get Asus, and the W5F seems good, but internal GPU is just going to cut it with Vista.

I'l going to wait until Early June becuase that's probably when Asus with finally release the W3J and that's after the price cuts on Intel cpu's.

The W3J has not even gone into production yet.

...that's $2,280.72 using today's rate. Does that seem like a pricing point for this unit here?I guess this is incorrect as I just was on Pro's site and they have $1799 for pre-order listed...bwa...trying to keep these model numbers straight w/o my cheat sheet is awful.

Well first... the full model names are going to be used this year to keep configurations and so forth straight.. the full number for the W3j isn't set yet.... I know our production of the W3j doesn't even get made for a couple weeks at the very least....... It doesn't mean other countries can't have it, but The W3 was the most popular model last year and Asus wanted it to be the first to come in...but they couldn't get it done because they said it wasn't in mass production yet.... so I'll take that as no one should have them for a while.

In my news section on the forum I've posted the specs that Asus US ordered - which is what you get for that price.. so you can use that for comparision.

I will probably end up answering my own question but I just wanted to see if I could clarify something about the price for the W3J compared to the V6J. Is the lower price of the W3J because of the type of screen it has? I was expecting a higher price for it compared to the V6J because of the better video card. Also, is it safe to expect a better level of graphical performance on the W3J (as opposed to the V6J) because of the better video card working on a smaller resolution screen?
My apologies if this was answered already in the topic, I read through it and didn't run across any answers to my questions. The W3V color scheme looks nice to me, I think they might change it though, to distinguish between the different models, right?
