Hi! New user, long-time lurker here! Anyway, could anyone give me their opinions/reviews on that particular aforementioned model? Performance rating and build quality especially.. Also, if it was just a remodelling of a previous Asus brand.

I only know few words on that X80N (yup, couldn't find that much info on the net) ... From what I get from the shop, it's a Turion 64 X2 1.6ghz, 2gb ddr2 667, 120gb HDD.

I am planning to get one for my younger brother for his secondary school graduation and it is within my budget.

    Thanks

    Where are you from?

Might want to fill out the FAQ?

No need to as I have narrowed my choices down to that. If I were to buy a new laptop, then that would be a different story. Anyway, I just wanted opinions on this particular model as it is quite unknown, even though decent.

I am originally from the US but usually my work takes me to southeast asia (taiwan, etc).

I really don't know about these X models, sometimes, they are rebranded "mainstream" models (F, A, ...), perhaps with some changes to make them cheaper. If that's the case for the X80, and you can find the "mainstream" equivalent, maybe we'll have some information for you. :)

Here are pictures taken from their website. Might help you identify if it was taken from an A-model or an F-model based on chassis, hinge, arrangement.

The G-series is a adaptation from the original A chassis, but this isn't from the G.

It doesn't resemble the F-series at all. This looks more like a black A-series chassis to me, probably the A8.

Is there a site that details the Asus chassis types and clarifies their lettering naming system?

Oh yeah, could you please critique it based on its design? Particularly the hinges and layout?

I'm just wondering if Asus has the same standards on the internal design (i.e. having a reinforced inner frame) even on budget notebooks.

Ok, it was a rebadge of an A8...

Anyway, this came as a surprise as I now have two choices:

the other is a Lenovo Y410.

Any opinions on the Y410 in terms of:
    - durability

    - chassis design

    - longevity and long-term reliability

    Thanks!!!

It's best to fill in the FAQ for this type of information, please.

It does resemble A8 somewhat, e.g., # of USB ports. But it's a bit too thin for an A8. I don't know...

We just recently purchased X80Ne and it's a good budget notebook. It's very reliable but I'm having problems getting the switch keys(for splendid, Power4Gear, Bluetooth, Wifi) and Splendid to work. I installed the drivers but I think something is missing, the hotkeys work(Fn + _) only the switch keys don't). I'm having a hard time with the ATK drivers since the drivers/utilities CD that came with it is for Vista 32 and 64 bit and I installed XP. I'm trying to find ATK100 for XP driver coz I think this might be the solution, but I can't find it so I installed the ATk100 Vista(from the driver CD) but it doesn't work. And I'm not sure if the X80N have integrated bluetooth. It has a blueetooth switch key but most sites I visited states that there is no bluetooth(it's only in X80Le). It is based on a A8, A8N I think.
