Hmm time is ticking down to the wire...I am still debating. I need to have a laptop in my hand by no later than April 14th, as I need it for that weekend to do a wedding shoot.
Dang...decision decision.

Well the Z71v's haven't hit the shore yet... but they'll certainly be enough to have one in your hands by that time... but you still have time to hold out.

Our shipment isn't supposed to hit port until the 4th.
This isn't the thread for info on the W2, but we're looking at say 5 weeks or more, and obviously more expensive than the W1.

Hmmm...Geared2Play just posted in a competeing forum that the z71v has been pushed back (his words) to around the 31st. Feedback? Also, anybody have any word on the w2?

By the way, for anyone who are interesting (and a bit expensive compared to proportable) hypersonic-pc.com now has it as well.

Let me give you a word of advice... We deal directly with Asus because we've been with them for about 4 years now. All of the newer companies who are selling asus' notebooks have to deal through distribution.
The word from the horses mouth is - a couple weeks ago, Asus' main distributor was told the landing date was monday the 28th in Asus' office.... about last week, that distributor placed that date as the ETA on their website... about the same time, these other dealers started repeating that date in the fourms and what not.
The truth is.. and still as of right now... the landing date in Asus' office is the 4th. There is only one shipment.. nothing that is coming in any sooner.... nothing that will be coming in for weeks afterwards.... just 1 for right now. Everyone is going to get a few.. just about enough to cover everyone's pre-orders... then they are going to be out of stock for a little while.. But as of right now..... the single shipment to north america is still not here... that means when it does get here..... someone like voodoo who has to paint their units are going to take a while to start getting out.
I'm estimating with the build time and shipping to the customer.... to have the Z71v pre-orders in customers hands by April 15th.. Unless they arrive earlier (in which my estimate would change)... I can't see and END USER with one in his hands before that.
Thanks,
Justin

Oh I see the differences with your website now.
When you click "notebook" from the main page, it will call the "buildonasus.html". But once you visit anyone of the product and click on the "notebook" from in there it calls "SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=2"
No wonder, I've been pondering why the listing look a bit odd.

i don't know...... all i know is the superior shopping cart system someone sold us on stinks..... it's all .net and causes problems visually... the important thing is it works...... and when we scan in something that gets delivered..... just like that one microsoft .net commercial.. it goes right into the stock you see on the site... so thats neat.... but i hate it because html doesn't always want to work correctly with it...... as most people have pointed out...
While I'm on the subject.... all your CS dorks I ripped yesterday..... we don't have a full time .net guy anymore.... drop me a line if you want to play with a .net website.

Okay, as it stand right now and I've come to terms with myself. If the Z71V hit your store this week, this is what I am getting....
ACIZ71V
PROPortable Z71V Centrino Notebook (New Sonoma Platform) - Advanced Order
1. Intel® Pentium® M w/ 2MB Cache; 533MHz FSB : 750 - 1.86GHz; 533MHz FSB; w/ 2MB Cache -Standard
2. DDR2 533 so-Dimm : 2048 ddr2 533 (1024mb x 2) - Corsair
3. Hard Drives 2.5" ATA100 : Hitachi Travelstar 60GB 7200 RPM w/ 8MB Buffer
4. Optical Drive : 8x DVD Dual Layer / Dual Format Burner (+/- R/RW)
5. Internal Wireless Card (Required for Centrino) : Intel PRO/2915 Wireless 802.11a/b/g MiniPCI
6. Operating Systems : No Operating System (Barebone)
7. Warranties : 2 years parts & labor w/ 1 way paid shipping
With that, I should be able to receive it in my hand at the latest April 10th time frame.
But if it is next week, I am going with the Acer 8104. I've come to term that I won't be able to live with myself spending over $2k on a laptop that look so sleek and elegant (V6) but wouldn't able to hold the performance in a few years like these other two.
I'll check in with you on Wednesday if you receive it, then I'll place the order at that time as well.

Kev,
It's not coming here on Wednesday... It'll be at Asus on probably thurday.... here next week. When they get to California, we'll know when they will get here and so forth... but as it stands right now, as long as we can have it to you on time, I wouldn't wait till they are actually here, because that might be too late. Thats not some sort of ploy, but I think as it stands there are 4 units left in this allocation when all the pre-orders are said and done with. They should last this week, but if there are any when the unit is actually in.... most people wait till the unit is out to buy it... and often thats too late in situations like these... we'll see, just keep up with me over im or something.
Thanks,
Justin

don't post that spec sheet, that is a good 6 months old.... certainly atleast don't purchase a unit from us based on it.. those sheets are things made up during planning and preproduction of those things.
The only thing for sure is that the Z71v is going to be darker than the Z71a. We don't have a ton of pictures of the Z71v on our site, because there are none yet and the Z71v is probably only going to be available in the states.. so pictures won't be taken till they arrive here. The picture on our site is of a Z71v.... I wasn't thrilled by the color or the fact we had to use it on the site to show off the computer..... but the units are certainly darker..... how much darker, we'll have to wait and see... but I think personally that the darker color fits that computer much better than the champaigne color..... so it'll be slightly better looking.
Thanks,
Justin

I don't know what you just said.......... but that spec sheet was from November, as you can see we're just about in April.... a lot can happen between then and now. I'm not saying it's wrong, but for people to be judging what is coming in based on something that was made while this system was still in the development stages is obviously not the best thing to be getting information from.

Justin

Just curious, anyone ever tested out the light sensor function on this lappy. I wonder how well it works. It could be cause for distaster if you think about it.
Hmmm I wonder if there is a way to disable that from the BIOS.

Well the color is big..... no one liked the color of the Z71a... once we can post the Z71v pictures, it would probably help sales..
Um... Well we're out of 60gb/7200rpm drives..... as will everyone shortly. We have enough to handle the pre-orders, but Hitachi might not get more into the country till June (so said an email from Hitachi' product manager today to all of the major distributors).... Yet some of them are still holding out for a shipment in May...... Who knows, but the delay is so long we took the option off the site tonight, even if people would wait for them, it's so far down the road that we don't want to give people false hope.
The way I figured it, all pre-order customers should have their Z71v's in hand by April 15th. The way it looks now, everything is on par for that... maybe a little sooner than expected.
Thanks,
Justin

Some resellers are advertising that they have it in stock...this is going to be a hot item...and if it get good reviews, will translate to be a very good business for asus. I am waiting for your review smilepak (and pictures too!)
The specs are just one of the best that is available out there with sonoma chips..and at a very reasonable price. -
Justin will you be putting up any pics and benchmarks? just enough to show us graphics performance since there is nothing really out on the 6600 right now, nothing in depth. Anything is appreciated. The sooner the better, and that means some of us can have peace of mind and make a purchase.
-
One reseller is reporting that there were 80 pre-orders for this model. If accurate, this is a good initial offering. Hope to see reviews soon (pictures too, but right now that is secondary to what I am looking for).
