    Do you mean you're able to set one button to Fn+F5???

    Hmm I might be missing something... I can only choose Keystroke Ctrl, Alt or Shift + another button... it doesn't give me the option for the Fn button...

    Hey NP_,

    I put a AsusNbKeys.exe shortcut into my Startup folder, but when I start my computer, it says 'Can't synchronize with existing ATK0100 event!'

    To get AsusNbKeys.exe to work, I have to open up the Task Manager, end the HControl.exe process, open up HControl.exe again, then try AsusNbKeys.exe again and it works.

    Do you have any idea why this is?

    Thanks for any help!

    --

    Sorry ppl, by now I have no time to update the program :( maybe a bit later...

    --

    The AsusNbKeys.exe awaits execution of HControl.exe and then rapidly tries to access it's "ATK0100 AC" event. That error can occur in case of the event is not created yet.
    Run AsusNbKeys after HControl.exe with some delay.

    I'll fix this later :(

    Greetings,
    I have just installed the utility on an S7F.
    It appears to be working quite funnily, although I am just thinking that I have not understood properly how does the utility works.
    One main question: i tried that as soon as i close the main program, after having 'saved to the system' with the control-utility, all the hotkeys cease to work, at all: is it overwriting on the asus software? :eek: Moreover, how can I keep most of the asus settings? that means: when i install the utility, it looks like it is putting to blank all the hotkeys automatically!
    Thanks!
    G.

    Updated to v1.3!
    See #1 post for details and download links. Please pay attention to "upgrade" section.

    PS: any feedback appreciated.

    --

    Done, please upgrade to v1.3.

    --

    Please try v1.3.

    --

    Please try v1.3.

    --

    Erm.. Did you mind you close AsusNbKeys.exe, not AsusNbKeysCtrl.exe? The AsusNbKeys.exe must be always loaded. Closing AsusNbKeys.exe with Task Manager will result in totally not working all additional keys (except of hardware ones like Zz, brightness, bluetooth). Do not kill AsusNbKeys.exe!

    No. Never. The AsusNbKeys.exe acts as some kind of filter between ATKACPI.sys (driver) and HControl.exe (controlling software that manages all additional keys by default).

    Thanks NP_ ! Cheers for the new version!
    Still though, i have some old issues: keeping the asusnbkeys.exe running i can use all the old buttons, but for f10, which appears to be already modified by the initial file. although it does not do anything on my laptop. Moreover, the fn-lock does not have effect: on / off, i still have to press the fn button in any case.

    Lastly :0 could anyone please let me know how to set up my buttons? (i have a s7f, with only the power4gear and wireless/bluetooth buttons, and the rest as fn + f1 to f 12). Let's say for example, i want to put notebookhardware control in place of p4g, and 'gmail' in place of mail (fn+f3): how would it be?

    Sorry for bothering with this question, and thanks a lot for the great program :)

    Is there a way to fix the Intel Wireless button issue with this workaround? I always get the "Unable to load the Intel Muroc API,..." since I use the Windows wireless app. I remember downloading a tool that helped enable disabled/enabled the wireless utility and controled the LED, but this was like months ago. Any ideas?

    Erm. Read 1st page of this topic.

    Example, how to set NHC instead of P4G:
    1) Run AsusNbKeysCtrl;
    2) Click "Add new event...": now you should see "PLEASE PRESS KEY TO TRAP EVENT" window;
    3) Press Power4Gear key on your notebook: that window should dissapear and you should see some code in "Event" field;
    4) Fill in "Description" field (for example, "Power4Gear key now manages NHC");
    5) Set mark on "Execute file";
    6) Press "..." button and select C:\Program Files\Notebook Hardware Control\nhcmsg.exe
    7) Fill in "Parameters" filed: "-cs" (without quotation marks!); [ see picture below]
    8) Press "Save";
    9) Press "Save all changes to system".

    http://www.wlanbook.com/2007/11/10/enable-disable-wireless-card-command-line/ + that app you said to control WLAN's led + some script to check whether WLAN is enabled and enable or disable WLAN accordingly. And this script can be executed by AsusNbKeys.

    --

    No. But I'm going to make some diggs to try to do this...

    OK I finally found the utility and it works flawlessly now! The utility to control the wireless button is called ASUS Wifi. This apparently was written for the old version of the hacked Hcontrol which has disappeared long ago, basically it was to fix the wireless button for when your using the native Windows Wireless Utility on Windows XP which have errors like "Unable to load the Intel Muroc API..". This will allow you to have a fully functional wireless button to enable/ disable the wireless card and at the same time control the Asus status LED appropriately even after hibernation etc. This may work for a ton of other Asus models and not just for my W3V.

    Download ASUS Wifi Here. If by chance this download link ever dies, feel free to contact me or pm me about it, and I'll relink or upload this!

    It's basically using the Microsoft Devcon command line utility mentioned above, but they have written using VB script an application that can detect the status of the LED and the wireless card and display the LED accordingly. It's a tiny program that uses about 1500KB memory that you run on startup with -monitor parameters and it will light up the LED when you boot up. The only complicated part is to find out and modify the ini file with your wificard's hardware device ID which can be found through Device Manager>Properties>Details in Hardware ID. It should look something like this "VEN_8086&DEV_4229&SUBSYS_11008086&REV_61", just either type or paste the first line(without the PCI) right behind the blanked "card_id='.

    With AsusNBKeys, you simply have to link the button to the utility .exe file (without the '-monitor"), once you press it this should work accordingly with the latest ATK/Hcontrol available.

    hey NP_ thanks for the app works great.

    If it is possible to add keystroke of Brightness Up/Down to the list, that would be a bonus :)

    I think that one is somehow hardwired, since it works in the BIOS, during POST etc. without requiring any operating system. I'm therefore not sure that it can be changed.

    Still possible. Although it works in BIOS, without ATK installed, you can't change the brightness in Windows.

    Yes please! It is so frustrating that I cannot press Ctrl+Shift with one finger. In my programming editor I use Ctrl+Shift+some key a few times every minute and not being able to do this slows me down considerably. Pressing Ctrl+cursor keys is a hit and miss too...

    Which means that the ATK software is still detecting the keystrokes within Windows to the ACPI to make changes in LCD brightness. If there is a utility that can parse the information passed between ACPI and ATK, (which I think what NP has made AsusNBkeys to do), it can be technically possible to detect and change the "Fn" key. Now the complicated part is the "CTRL" key which is more difficult to swap than pretty much any other key on a system level.

    There are only 5 keys i wish to modify the, Prev, Next, Stop, Play/Pause so that they work with Mediaportal and they just need to be assigned to the keys F7, F8, B and space..

    And a launch the application key which works a treat

    Hey guys,

    I've downloaded this great app, but for some reason, when I try to assign a keystroke, the CTRL, ALT and SHIFT modifiers are all checked and grayed out, so I cannot uncheck them. I tried different keys, but it makes no different. Any ideas?

    I'm using NBkeys 1.3. The notebook is F3SV running Vista Home with SP1. The hcontrol is 1043.2.31.91.

    NP, thanks for your great work!

    Hey everyone,

    As the original author seems to be MIA, but thankfully open-sourced this program, I thought I'd post a modified AsusNbKeysCtrl with some small bugfixes:
    • Ctrl/Alt/Shift can be changed for keystroke mappings
    • Keystroke mappings can be modified when editing existing events
    • Various GUI fixes

    Rapidshare link: http://rapidshare.com/files/130238070/AsusNbKeysCtr-1.3fix.zip

    The Rapidshare link and attachment link are the same file; both only contain a modified AsusNbKeysCtrl, you still need AsusNbKeys from the author's original post.

    Enjoy!

    Hi All,

    I know that this program is only for software events, but has anyone come across a way to control the quick access keys on the top right of my G71V?

    What I am thinking is, change the ExpressGate key to boot into my Ubuntu partition instead
