Could you post your source too? :) It's probably too late now but I have messed with it in visual studio too, would be nice to see your code.

No, this is a program for windows. I use it all the time for controlling winamp... You would need a BIOS mod for that, or to customize expressgate to load with a custom image. But beyond changing that, you can't change the buttons at the top.

I can't believe I took so long to try this program out. It's been working flawlessly on my W3J with the stock drivers under Windows XP SP3.

On a side note, the media hotkeys worked flawlessly (and with no special tweaking/programs) under Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, and Kubuntu 8.10.

Hey, just a thought: Can you add Fn + (blah) to keystroke combinations?

Also, can you explain what the
Additional Options: Enable Fn button lock hotkey (Win+Space)
does (like, what do you mean by "lock")? I never knew what Fn+space did.

Lastly, on a G50VT, it appears that 1 out of 4 of the hotkeys are non-configurable (the Power4Gear Mode one), can you look into it?

    Thank you.

read the whole thread but not quite sure I understand (prolly since I just woke up?) is there a way to assign in a different way the vol up / down ? (fn+f11/12) I'm interested in doing so since I got a roccat kone mouse and would like to do a macro with volume (so far got with global keys on winamp next / prev track and play/pause) ?

    tks in advance

You have to install the driver for Windows Vista.(ATK0100, ATKHOTKEY, ATKMEDIA, ATKOSD2). They will work with Windows 7. I didn't get an error.
Restart you PC and start AsusNbKeys.exe.
Wait 1-2 minutes --> no error? Then start AsusNbKeysCtrl.exe.
If there is an error then select following checkboxes.
    http://img5.imagebanana.com/view/6hjl86ma/Unbenannt.JPG

The Windows Hotkeys and AsusNBKeys works fine on Windows 7 Pro ;)

I downloaded the Files from the Asus Support Page.
But you can download them here.
Deinstall the existing files. Install the Driver inside the archive and follow the instructions.
    Then start AsusNBKeys.

    I hope it works.

I have Asus K50AB laptop with Windows 7 64bit system. I tried to install Windows Vista ATK Drivers, but they're not compatible with my system. When I try to run asusNbKeysCtrl with my present drivers I receive a message "Can't synchronize with existing ATK000 event!" Help!

The Driver I posted are only for Windows 32bit Systems.

AsusNotebookkeys works only for 32bit Systems.

    @Blurpik
This is the driver for Vista 64bit for your NB Model:
    http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/ATKDrv/ATKDrv_VT64_090420.zip
    Perhaps it works. I don't have a 64bit System so I couldn't test it.

The "can't synchronize" problem probably stems from the fact that the new drivers for Windows7 have a HcontrolUSER.exe now instead of hcontrol.exe

You only need the ATK Hotkeys Vista64 Drivers(Use the one for your laptop model. Use the asus website). I'm currently running all Win7x64 drivers minus that one on my G1sn. Make sure you uninstal your current ATK Hotkeys first. After this, start up asusnbkeys and let it sit for a bit. Then run that fixed Ctrl file that's found earlier in this thread and give it a shot. It should work.

I have done what you said: Uninstalled ATK hotkeys in 7 and reinstalled with the Vista 64 variant. I am still getting a Cant Syncronize error. Any ideas?

    I'm on an ASUS UL30A Win7.

All i want to do is get the mediakeys working with itunes!

Wonderfull, great works %100 with my A6V nb. Congratulations.

I have a question. Can we add another key combination (not existing nb default combinations). For example FN+E or FN+Ctrl+E.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I solved the problem with "Can't synchronize with existing ATK0100 event!"
AsusNbKeys.exe waits for "ATK0100 AC EVENT" event in the process HControl.exe but can't find it. Asus for some time adds to that name a random number changing each time you boot. Thus it is necessary to restore the name of the event to the previous form to bring back AsusNbKeys.exe to work.

Here's how to do that (Tested on Asus M51Ta, windows 7 x64):
    First step you can ignore.

    1. Uninstall current ATK Hotkey and install the latest drivers appropriate for your system.
    ATK Hotkey

    2. Terminate HControl.exe in task manager.
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, switch to Processes tab, look for HControl.exe, click on the file and click the End Process button.

    3. Using your favorite hexadecimal editor open the C:\ Program Files (x86) \ ASUS \ ATK Hotkey \ HControl.exe file. I used XVI32

    4. Search for the string "ATK0100 AC EVENT"

    5. Get rid of " %d" from "ATK0100 AC EVENT %d"
    In the hex panel replace carefully "20 25 64" to "00 00 00"

    6. Save changes and reboot the system.

That's all. Now Asus notebook keys should work fine.

    Regards

Is there any way to use this program for setting a hotkey to make iTunes skip song? Any way to set it to where it will work regardless what I'm doing on my computer?

Whatever. I have a question. Can i make a backup for this? How can i?

@sixfeetunder, you just have to backup the HControl.exe to some folder (might be in the same folder it is originally).

NP, thanks for the tool, I just put it on my G73, works great with Windows 7 x64 with the workaround of konradb4, I needed those media playback buttons for Foobar2000 :)

One question, why can't I disable the Ctlr+Alt+Shift modifiers when assigning a key ? I'm kinda used to Control + MM Play to work as Random-Play...

I've followed the steps Konrad said to get it working on Windows 7 64bit, but whenever I run AsusNbKeys.exe now it says after 2 minutes that it can't find the HControl.exe process. I had to end that process to get this program working, but now it won't boot up again. I've just restarted and it still not running.

I found it on my PC at C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Hotkey, but when I try to run it it says HControl.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

How can I fix this problem?

You probably edited the HControl.exe the wrong way...you should restore HControl.exe to it's original file and try again.

Yeah probably. I've tried to edit the HControl 4 times now (always restoring to a clean one in the process) but it just won't work :(

Couldn't somebody send me their HControl.exe file? Seems like the easiest way actually, this is just not working.

i've been using this for awhile now on my ul30vt, works great, disabled the Fn arrow keys, and mapped Fn-C and Fn-V for win explorer / firefox

the first time i was trying to edit HControl.exe it wouldnt let me save, even when it wasn't running and not on auto-start, so i had to boot in safe mode and do it there

    Thanks for that!
I copied it to my system, and I've started AsusNBKeys.exe .
I think it's working now, because in AsusNbKeysCtrl.exe I can now add new events. But there aren't any existing events though, is that normal?

Also, how could I set the FN + Right key combination to the next track key in Foobar2000?

    Thanks so much again!

u should get a popup after you click add new event, asking you to put in the key combo, just press Fn+key when you see that, you need check the execute file box and browse to the execute file

You set those shortcuts inside Foobar2000. Before that you just do shortcut aliases from the AsusNBKeysCtlr.exe...that is, when you press the Fn+Down (play), the Asus NB Keys will simulate Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Play in your system...Then go to Foobar2000, go to File -> Preferences -> Keyboard shortcuts and you set Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Play as a global shortcut that plays/pauses your player

Here's how I have it set up at the moment.

When I press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT+Right arrow now (while Foobar is running, AsusNotebookkeys is not running), the song goes to the next one, like it should be. But I want it to be FN + Right arrow. How do I do that?
I still don't get it, sorry. You've helped me tremendously so far!

Run AsusNbKeysCtrl.exe. Press on "Add New Event" ...you'll see a dialog that tells you to press a key which you want to bind to some event - press your key, for example Fn + Right arrow ...the program will catch your key and you can now assign a key combination that it will simulate, for example Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Right. Save that into AsusNbKeysCtrl.exe. Now - everytime you press Fn+Right, your windows will "think" you have pressed Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Right.

I know this has been mentioned before but no-one seemed to answer the dude so I'll ask..

Will this program work if I wanted to change the fact the on the Asus U35JC using any of the media keys automatically open Media Center and then only work within that application, will this program allow me to make the media keys work will all media players (such as spotify and itunes)? No matter whether iTunes is in focus or not.

What I am trying to do is lock the Fn key down so that I don't have to press it to do thing like dim screen, kill my wireless, or disable touch pad and turn off the screen.

    I have an asus u43f.

Tried pressing the check that said lock Fn key which sounded like what I want but it seems to do nothing. Need some sort of quick action keys since my model laptop lack any touch buttons.

    Thanks,

The cause is "ATK Media Utility".
It opens Windows Media Center when the multimedia hotkeys are pressed.
    Just uninstall it.

To backup hotkeys configuration export this registry subkey [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AsusNbKeys]
Here is How To Backup Registry Keys

I've got the same problem. I'm trying to map hotkeys for Zune (can't change hotkeys) so I want to map Fn+Down (Play) to Ctrl+P.

Any advice on how to unlock those checkboxes?

    Edit: I'm using the G53jw.

Watching the source code, those 3 checkboxes (Ctrl+Alt+Shift) are coded as "disabled" for user input, they are automatically checked when you check the "keystroke" checkbox, it's definitely done on purpose, maybe cuz when you press a key like Fn+Play and if the keystroke that it simulates is same key the app will enter into infinite loop...or maybe there's not a clean way to simulate Fn+somekey...howerever I can live with that :)

    Hi,

I've uploaded a recompiled version of the tool. You are now able to select/unselect the checkboxes for CTRL, SHIFT and ALT.

    AsusNbKeysCtrl_Rebuild.exe

    Have fun,
