Set fsb or Clockgen will allow you to overclock your E7500. I can't remember the PLL but I think it was the 2nd or 3rd PLL choice on the list of PLL codes that clockgen offered. You should be able to overclock it to around 3.25ghz and undervolt it to around 1.1375 volts from the stock 1.275 at that overclock to save yet more heat. Have fun![]()

Sorry, I don't think it is possible to make the BIOS/Chipset recognize .5 multi. Anyone is welcome to try editing the BIOS, thought.

edit 07-30-2009 : I've got a E7500 today.

Hi,
I try to get the 1003.ROM file from colombodk.
I saw the link above to burn a CD, but i would want the .ROM alone.
Can someone give this file ? I also send a pm to colombodk.
The rapidshare links are no longer working.

Have you downloaded the pre-prepared iso that ken at gentech prepared and uploaded for this mod? See page 4 of this thread.
-
second what interns said, i used the pre prepared iso from gentech
-
Thanks.
I've just burn a cd. But not tried yet.
I'm not sure to have understood every thing. Will it boot automatically ?
Or have I to press escape key ?
Does the C90S work with biosmod and old cpu as E6600 ?

Follow these instructions to carry out the bios update :
Make sure your computer is at AC power before update the BIOS and do it at your own risk.
1: Download the ISO and burn into the CD.
2: Restart the computer with CD in the drive and press "ESC" once when you see the Asus logo.
3: Select boot from CD drive and press enter.
4: Computer will boot to A:\ prompt
5: Type UPDATE and press enter
6: BIOS flash will start and DON"T turn off or press any key or buttons on the laptop.
7: It'll go back to A: prompt when BIOS flash is finished.
8: restart the computer and press F2 to enter BIOS.
9: press F10 to save and exit BIOS. -
Thanks alot King of Interns,
Done all you explain.
E7500 is working fine now.
Next step : upgrade my vga card to a 9600M-GT like NightWalker did.
I've already began to make the copper heat-spreader.
Have a good day,

No problem, glad I could help. The real credit should be given to columbok and ken though for facilitating this awesome upgrade
Good luck with your VGA upgrade that is one thing I failed doing with my C90S as I couldn't be bothered to make a proper custom heatsink lol. -
How about update cpu-list from ASRock ConRoe1333-DVI/H R2.0? Supports 1333MHz CPUs! May c90s run with E8200 or E8300?

I am afraid not aerosmit. The C90S has a 945G chipset that can only accept up to 1066mhz fsb core 2 duo processors that have a tdp that falls within 65-75W. As of now the E7500 is the best processor that will work. The E7600 may also work but it would function at E7500 speeds as the C90S bios ony recognises full multi's not half multi's so 11x is fine on the E7500 but not 11.5x. If you want to take the risk you could upgrade to the E7600 and then see if you can force the CPU to its full 11.5x(3.06ghz) multi using RMclock or CystalCPUID. There is a chance it is possible but this would be the very best CPU option for the C90S.
Still 3.2ghz+(by OCing) should be perfectly adequate until you get yourself a new machine that supports the i7/5 chips. Hope this helps and welcome to NBR! -
But Intel E8200 TDP=65Watts multipler=8 and speed=2.66GHz. All suitable for asus c90s except FSB1333. On the official site asrock says that "ConRoe1333-DVI/H R2.0 Compatible with FSB1333 In overclocking mode. Under this situation, PCIE frequency will also be overclocked to 115MHz."

It is the fact that the E8xxx series operates at 1333fsb that they are not compatible. The chipset is just too old. The C90P which is basically a C90S with a newer P35 chipset does support those CPU's.
Nonetheless the E7500 is a very decent C2D chip and is very cheap. Once overclocked it can compete quite competently with the faster CPU's in the E8xxx range(E8400,500) and at much cooler temps than the older E6600/700 processors thanks to being built on the newer 45nm process.
If you really do want to push the C90S to its limits then I suggest you try the E7600 using the methods I described above. If it works than you would be able to squeeze more power out of it than a stock E8600 would give as 3.4ghz+ could very well be possible to attain. Make sure you keep that receipt however so you can return it just in case! -
I just got one of these for cheap at work.
It came with a e6600 but I want to mod it like here and put something cooler in it.
Also sort of on the subject it has a bad video card. (crazy artifacting sometimes happens at boot but not always, other times it is fine but the VC hits like 100c)

What can I put in it and where should I get it from?
I see 8600 w/ 512 on Provantage for $135 but I'd like to go better if I could. -
The 9600m mxm ii upgrade by nightwalker is a good mod, about 150 on ebay. The mod does take some work, but there is a comprhensive guide. Good luck.
-
Edit: NM, too much work.
8600 it is. -
Hello,
Since I've updated to a 9600M, I need no more my 8600.
So I could sell it, I'm in France, have to see for shipping.
If you want, just pm.

Hey guys I need some help. I got my E7500 CPU today and went to download and burn Ken's ISO file for the BIOS and nothing shows up when I try to burn it. I am using Deepburner and Daemon Tools Light to download, unzip and burn but its not working.
Does anyone know if the file doesnt work right anymore or am I using the wrong tools to do this.
Thanks Guys!

(speaking for C90S Rookie)
Nope - no dice - We're getting the same results either way.
The .ISO file burns a disc with 1847296 bytes used, but the CDFS filesystem is EMPTY!?
I can (virtually) mount the .iso image with DaemonTools, and burn it via Nero or DeepBurner, and the result is the same, and empty CD with 1847296 bytes used (no hidden/system files to display either).
Further, the disc will not boot on the C90S...
More HELP please...! -
It does work, I've got a E7500 a month ago and it is nicelly running.
1/ You dl,
2/ You unzip => you've got a ISO
3/ You burn a cd, choose option to burn ISO,
4/ You have to boot on the cd => check and set your bios,
5/ If you can't boot on the cd, at start-up of your C90S press on escape key. It will give you a drop list where you choose how to start.
6/ At prompt A:\ just send "update"
7/ That's all.

Awsome, thank you very much she is running great at 2.93, arctic silver 5 and she is only running at 63C at full load. Now if only zepto would get back to me onthe GPU.
-
You can warm your CPU to have more airflow by using clockgen.
@+ -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Ha ha yup. Overclock to 3.2ghz to get those fans spinning once again.
-
She running great at 3.2, wierd but im only getting a 3DMARK score of 3127 with newest drivers with my 8600m GT 512 ddr2 shouldnt that be higher. Zapto finally got back to me though so 9600 soon. Any ideas though on how to improve my score?
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
What clock speeds do you have your 8600M GT at. Even at stock speeds the score should be higher than 3500! Make sure nothing is running in backround when you do it too. -
Before you have this E7500, I suppose you used TurboGear which oc both CPU and GPU.
Try RivaTuner ? But I don't know if it works (don't work on my 9600 with mod bios).
Or EVGA ? To dl more easily here. (don't work on my 9600 with mod bios).

Hi guys,
I just bought an E7500, but I can't OC it at all...
As you can see, there is info missed up! so I can't manage the temps, volts, and so on...I can't slide the CPU clock bar...
any Ideas??
The info missed under Windows 7 x64 is show under XP x32. But I can't still manage the CPU clock...
Help needed!!
Thank you... -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
That is odd. I assume you have the correct PLL code selected?
Also have you tried Setfsb just to be sure? -
My bad, the CPU clock on PPL control doesn't move, but it does overclock!!
Anyway I had to reinstal RMClock, it might be a problem with the stored configuration...and had to download latest CPUZ. (old CPUZ show all CPU info under XP but in Win7 x64...strange)
I had already the right PPL control setup, I OC my E6600...that's basic.
Thank you again -
Hi i just wonder if somebody already heared about the E6300 or E6500? Wich seems some newer Dual Core (not Core2Duo)
Just saw this now and i'm thinking why i still need to buy a E7xxx.
They are both also in 45nm with a TDP about 65W. The E6300 is clocked at 2x 2,8 GHZ. The E6500 is clocked at 2x 2,93 GHZ. They got both FSB set to 1066 MHZ so that should work. Sure got both just 2mb L2-Cache but the E7xxx just have 1mb more. Positive is also the lower price at same clock but the got no SSE4 but where do i need that...?
I know the bios is properly not suppose to handle that cpu yet but my minor issue is will the chipset accept them? -
hi all. I bought e7500. Instal it. when work with ac adapter no problem, but when only battery laptop stop worked(freezing). Stop loading when start windows. I think that battery have low voltage from this cpu. When may be a problem?
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
I had that problem too at times. I managed to fix the problem 90% of the time. Problem is the E7500 when running on battery runs at 11x 175 fsb. The computer deesn't like that and can freeze either when booting up or at other times.
To fix it;
1.) Dowload RMclock and install
2.)Under the profiles tab on the left hand side select "performance on demand"
3.) Under the battery section tick the box "use P-state transistions (PST)"
4.) tick the first box which is to enable 6x multi use only
5.) Click the profile tab again and under battery settings change the "current" and "startup' battery values from "no management" to "performance on demand". When you are done performance on demand should be showing under both current and startup for battery. LEAVE AC ON "NO MANAGEMENT"
6.) Finally make sure only the first box next to "0" which is for 6x0 multi is selected.
Then under the settings tab go to the startup options section and tick both boxes ; "start minimized to system tray","run at windows startup"
Now your machine will immediately downclock to 6x multi once windows is started on battery. Your machine may still crash once in a while when booting up if you boot up from battery but it should be a non issue once booted
If you are a bit lost on my guide please let us know and I will post up some screenshots to help guide you. -
King of Interns, thanks man, worked.
But stay on e6420 and OC it
On e7500 for example, if i install (recovery) OS on battery mode (lol) i can`t do this...
May be can change multi... (6x - 11x) or FSB on hardware level, or not? -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
nah you can't, best way to completely get rid of the problem is boot up on AC then run on battery once it has started up. RMclock only starts when windows is fully booted you see. Use the E7500! You will see a big difference in performance compared with the E6420 even if it is OCed.
-
9 months ago I purchased an Asus C90S which is working very well. However, because I want to use the E7500 CPU
I need to obtain the BIOS upgrade. Please can you point me in the right direction? Thanks, Mallo.

hi. Today reading about bsel mode. So this method allow change cpu speed, for exemple e6750 1333 to 1066, somebody do this? may be possible install new 45nm processors in laptop?
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Not worth trying it out. The E7500 will outperform the E6750 and even the E6850 because it is a 45nm CPU's vs older 65nm. This means clock for clock more efficient and quicker.
If you want a 45nm CPU for the C90S buy a E7500
If you want a 45nm quad CPU for the C90S you can try the Q7xxx range. -
e6750 i written for example, i mean all processors with 1333 mhz. I not use e7500 because it not started on battery mode. I doubt that c90s supported qxxx cpu's.
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
It won't support the Q6600 and the older quads because they take too much power however the newer Q7xxx ones should work fine particularly the Q7xxxS versions as they are only 65W, the same tdp as all the dual core CPU's. There low fsb of 800mhz is to be noted but should be welcome as it will allow a big overclock!
-
hmm,how long waiting q7xxx? from non official news multiplier 13x, may be it not correctly worked as e7500 with 11x...trying installing e6750 from desktop
...
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
It will work fine. What the 945G chipset has problems with is half multi eg 13.5x etc. Good luck with the E6750! It will perform quite badly though! You may as well put a E6600 in as that will be better or a E6700. If you put a E6850 in and it downclocks you would have yourself a E6600 so the E6750 would perform no better than your current E6420. If you really do want to stick with 65nm processors you can install yourself a X6800. It does work fine but puts out quite a bit of heat so will need a nice undervolt if you plan to do any OCing. When I did my tests with it in the C90S the fan behaviour was a bit on the hot side; the fans only reached full speed when the x6800 reached 80C which is a bit hot in my opinion while with the E6600 it never let it go above 70C even when OCed

Sent you an email with both the bios iso and instructions in how to flash it included. Happy upgrading.
Note the rom file has been converted to iso so simply needs to be burnt to a cd using nero or something similar that can burn iso image files. Then follow the instructions I gave you in my email to you. Good luck!
Once downloaded, right click on it and choose open with nero, then let it burn the image. Upon inspection of the disk after burning the disc should appear empty if you open it. Then restart with it in and follow the instructions. -
