I haven't yet replaced my z70va though I will soon.

I have 2 batteries. The one I have been using charges but lasts about 5 minutes before dying.

I just found the other battery. It has probably been sitting for a couple of years. I thought it might be better.

I put the 2nd one in, the laptop Power Meter shows its presence -- and the Power meter says it has zero charge -- but the battery is not charging.

Does this mean the battery is so dead it won't charge or that I need to do something to get the laptop to charge it?

Yes, it does. The batteries are too old, and the cells have gone bad; my daughter's HP dv1700 from that timeframe has 85% wear and manages to run just 20min unplugged on a good day.

You'll just have to keep it plugged in until you purchase the new system.

    RIP, sweet princess Z series.
