    Hi,

What tool are you using that shows 556mhz. The only thing I found was CPU-Z which shows it at 266.7 (which as you pointed out is 1/2.) I probably don't understand this RAM timing as well as I should.

Has anyone noticed that the laptop runs cooler in general when overclocked as opposed to in standard mode? The power saving mode is the coolest of course. In OC mode the cores will bump the Intel "rev limiter" but in standard mode they will peg the "rev limiter."

Did you also notice that when the notebooks OCed the fans are going at full blast vs the as needed before OC? I think these babies can be OCed higher then there 10-20% and run stable, anyone tried a bios voltage OC.

It "is" 266 but since the ram is DDR (Double Data Rate) it works as 533mhz. You'll always see 266,

Well the card is installed. It asked me to install the drivers, upon inserting the CD it tells me that it cannot fid the drivers. I tried installing the drivers from the ASUS CD manually, and it does nothing. It gets to the installshield wizard, says it is modifying the Wireless Console 2, and that's as far is it will go. The load bar stay's at the bottom, and flashes. That's it.

Any new drivers for the wireless card that you guy's care to share the location of?

The fix for that WhiteEightBall is on the first page of this very thread :p Sorry I thought you were halfhalo I was just droping by the forums really fast before I went to sleep today and didnt go back to double check who posted.

The right drivers are on the cd but I forget what they are labeled as so I recomend getting them directly from intels site, eather thru wired internet, by use of a usb drive, or by transfering thru a network.

So I've pretty much had a terrible experience with this laptop so far. Now I can't install video drivers cause it says I don't have the proper drivers installed when I try to install the drivers. What the **** am I doing wrong?

I tried turbo gear for the first time today, but after I restarted it seemed to have reverted to standard clocking. Is this the case, or did it in fact stay overclocked as I had set it? If it reverted, how can I make the overclocking stay standard? Thanks.

Its on the fly marcusbrody, it is not like a bios overclock where the changes are permanent. When your current windows session ends so do the overclocked speeds. It is however only 2 seconds of time to put it into any mode you want so its not really a bad thing.

Is there any way to turn off the LCD display without going into sleep or hibernation on a C90S? For some reason, I wasn't able to get it to happen through the Power Management Options. I set it to turn off even after 1 minute, yet nothing happened. It's bumming me out because I wanted to keep some downloads running overnight. Any ideas?

I forgot, but what OS are you on?

I'm on Vista. I went into the power management and from there you can select how long the "monitor" stays on and how long other processes are on. Right now, I have mine set so the monitor is on for 10 minutes before turning off, and the rest stays on unless I push the sleep or power button.

EDIT: Again. Reading>Me I guess I completely ignored the main part of your post there ridley. In your options for the power management, there should also be an option of what your computer does when you close the lid. You can just keep it running, that way the screen turns off, but nothing else does.

My main concern right now though, is that when my C90 enters "sleep" mode, it won't wake up from sleep mode. Pushing the power button wont work and hitting key's doesn't work. I have to hold the power button untill it turns completely off and then reboot from there. I remember seeing a post/thread about that and how to fix it in this section, but now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it.

I tried setting that at one minute, and nothing happened, so I set it where, when I close the lid, nothing happens. That way, it won't disturb anyone, and since the screensaver is on, that should be just fine. Not to mention, I can always set it to Sleep mode when I actually want it to.

As far as the Sleep function, that happens to me sometimes. I just tap the Power button, wait for it to blink, then tap it again. It's a little inconvenient, but at least you don't lose all your processes. Otherwise, Sleep works just fine for me.

Here's to hoping the new BIOS clears out most of these problems. They're almost unbearable! I'm getting a lot of BSODs (got one right before I had to go to class, so I couldn't try out my lid method). Hopefully it's just because I'm using too much RAM, and the 2GB being shipped today will fix that. I can't stay angry at this laptop, though, because the screen is just so damn gorgeous! :)

EDIT: Yeah, I tried setting it where nothing happened when I lowered the lid, and the screen went black when closed, but when I opened it back up, it snapped on in an instant. Very cool, and very handy. :D

Great minds think alike then, eh? You posted right right after I decided that my post needed an edit.

But yea, I kept doing the same thing for the sleep function, but after I installed the WiFi card, that's when it started happening to me. Over in the OS section, I'm reading alot of people who installed the bluetooth after the computer that run Vista are having the same problem. So I'm not an isolated case. There may be a solution, but I'm at work right now so I can't test it out. It also very well may take me a few day's even just to free up enough of my free time from work related issues.

Imagine that though, I have more free time to screw around on the internet when I'm at work, than I do when I'm off. When I'm 'off', I do more work than I do than when I'm AT work. Such is the life of the Marines....

actually it does wake up (at least thats what happens with mine) its just the screen that wont come on. if you have your fingerprint reader setup try using it... you will hear the "ok" sound thats how you know that the computer is running its just the screen that wont turn on again.

This seems to be a common issue so far ive seen a couple of g1s, s96s and c90s user with the same issue.

basic response is to blame it on gpu drivers form laptopvideo2go (though im on stock drivers and still having the issue

there is one recipe of driver install that supposedly cures it (s96s) though i havent tried because... well it just seem like a lot of work :p i just disable hibernation and sleep mode for now.

edit: here the link for the thread with the possible solution http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=164323&page=2

Thanks cancer, that's the thread I was looking for.

The only reason I posted it here as well, is because my problem is different from yours. It doesn't come out of sleep. I do have teh finger print reader set up, it just doesn't wake up. simple as that. It's done it about 5 times now and each time, I lose any updates I've made during that session. Which sucks because I often start the updates and just leave it sit. I've turned it all off for now, the sleep mode and hibernation mode.

function key + the fkey that says lcd on it turns the lcd on and off manually at will. It works great and I use it when ever I walk away from my notebook. I think this is better than a timed turn off because somtimes I dont want it to go off on its own.

Ah, thanks! That would be a quicker way of doing it than having to keep on shutting it and opening it. This way, I can keep it where, once the lid is shut, it goes to sleep.

EDIT: For some reason, I installed 3GB of memory, but it's showing 2.87GB. Is this how it's supposed to be, or is there something wrong? :(

Oh, okay. One more question! I can't seem to find TurboGear on this system. I think it may be because it's a Velocity Micro system. Where would I find and download this? Thanks again!

I was wondering that myself. I thought that's what it was, but nothing happened. I don't think it's because it's a Velocity Micro machine, because it is still an ASUS C90S through and through. All the other drives are installed (like the fingerprint scanner and Bluetooth), so it's unusual.

What are the hotkeys on the Velocity (the four in the upper righthand)? If your using Vista then the right most will become a Turbo Gear mode selector button.

Yup, got it working shortly after Cancer filled me in (never want to use those two words in the same sentence again...). I played Cstrike: Source, and it ran like a dream! 182fps, and that was with downloads running in the background. What a secksay beast. :D

And yeah, the four buttons do work now. I even set up Gmail with Microsoft Outlook. Didn't do that before -- didn't know I could do that before. Pretty sweet. I'm really happy that everything just sort of worked together. Thanks for the help, guys.

Still having problems installing the drivers for the WiFi. I downloaded them from the intel website, and when I try to install the drivers (DPInst64), it tells me that I don't have sufficient security privileges. Also, installing the iProdifx Installation Utility gets me no where as well. All it tells me is that it is begining the installation process, once that window disappears, ... nothing.

    Any advice gents?

I only find that the problem with the "run as administrator", is that I'm always logged into the administrator account. I'll still try it anyway.

Hey, I searched this thread for a while, but couldn't find anyone with my exact problem - my computer freezes and reboots immediately when I switch to "gaming mode". It cannot possibly be a heat issue, as it still freezes when switching to gaming mode when the laptop has only been on for a few seconds after a few hours of being off. My laptop is perfectly stable in normal mode and battery mode, and I can switch between them just fine. Help? I'm using a 7-series bios.

I have no problems with Gaming mode. Been running it for a while. Ever since I chucked in 3GB of memory, I've had no BSOD's to speak of. I haven't tried it on battery yet, so I'll let you guys know how that goes. ;)

Hi. I've read through most of the thread and I have a couple problems. I've got the c90 laptop and I played F.E.A.R. for about an hour and I got the Blue Screen of Death. I tried to restart the laptop but it wouldn't turn on, so I waited about an hour and tried again and it gave me the BIOS menu, where it froze after about a minute. I tried to reboot but it wouldn't turn on again. I waited another hour, and got it to turn on and boot up, where it froze after i logged in. I waited overnight and the next day I could log in and it hasn't frozen since, but because the problem went away with time it must have to do with heat problems. I've gotten the BSOD several times while playing games and I was wondering if it was from an overheating issue or a BIOS issue.

On a side problem my function keys only works for changing brightness...When I try Fn+ F11 or F10 or F12 to change volume nothing happens... The only Fn keys that work are the brightness keys and the print screen key.
    Thanks for the help

Ozi i do belive that not everything is ram related (im probably on the same boat as you) new bios will tackle cpu compatibilty also.

Clockfort in your case i do think it is the ram if you have 3 gb try only the 1 gb stick. If you have 2x1gb then try them separatly or try different band.

Loadcraft for the function keys to work atk driver an atk utility must be installed

Ridley ... yeah i get that a lot with my screen name .. i gues it could have been worse... i could have been born a virgo :p

Well, interesting "issue" I came across today. Though, Vista wouldn't tell me what this issue was.

It said that the driver I had installed for the 8600 M GT had an error and that I needed to update the drivers. It would not give me a choice on wheather I updated the drivers or not. It would also not explain to me what the error or problem was. I was unable to reboot short of taking the battery out, but I had work on the computer that needed saving first. Which I was not allowed the comfort of doing before installing the new driver. I don't know why but it would not let me do anything but ask for help, click on the more information button, and click the update button.

So I decided to click on the update button after exhausting the first two options, which were no help whatsoever. It 'updated' to a driver I.D. with a bunch of 1's in it. I can't remember exactly at the moment which one, I'm at work right now so I can't check. It works fine and the card is still recognized, but if and when I pick up bioshock, I want to be ready. I could always just reinstall the driver, but I am still curious and puzzled as to of why it did this.

Sorry if this have been taken up, read thru about 14 pages, and still didn't really get a defined answer.

I was wondering if the Kingston DDR2- 667 2 Gb and 1Gb is compability with the C90s? Also I was also wondering what the battery life is based on your experiences, since google have been giving me strange answers. Some sites say 4 hours , some say 1.5 hours, not quite sure which one to believe in. Thanks~
