Someone on the forums tested it and came up with 1.9 hours. The ram that works for 2 gigs has to have micron ic's on it. I don;t know about one gig sticks though
-
-
2GB sticks of kingston work, according to Ken. 1GB sticks are not really an issue. I think kingston 1GB is the "approved & tested" list of Asus. -
What settings did you use to get to 1.9, most I've gotten was 1.45.
-
seriously though i dont think its possible to get that much time -
Maybe with the graphics card underclocked to like 100/100?
I'm getting mine tonigh -
I can get mine to last 2 hours if i turn the screen down to the 3rd level, stop using wifi/bluetooth, and go into powersaving mode.
-
Also I keep getting this BSOD, I'm gonna call my manufacturer but I can't get in touch with their tech support -

meaning the IC's. That one brand of ram "Kingston" may have 4 or 5 different types of 2gb ram, and only 1 of the 5 work. As for 1gb compatability. I have yet to hear of a single problem with ANY brand/type of ram as long as its 1gb capacity, and thats why I strongly recomend you just use 2gb of ram in a 1+1 configuration unless you are having the ram installed and tested by the retailer selling your unit.
Battery life depends on your equipment and what your doing. I can squeeze about an hour out of mine in power save mode while web surfing and listening to some music. If i was only word processing or something I see 90 minutes being about right.
If your going to play a game, 30 mintues or less. -

Ahh no, I have been just watching the 33gb of Mythbusters I downloaded for the last week or two.
I already probed the overclocking program for alot of data and modified it with no results, I only have a few things left that I dont think will work. Rather than modifying the memory of the program I think a programer has to do it at a deeper level. -
For some reason, with my laptop (after I added the 2gb of additional memory), as soon as I unplug the battery, it freezes. I go to Power Saver mode, it freezes. It's very disheartening when you spend $1800 and still deal with this crap. ASUS really needs to get their asses in gear with that BIOS update...
-
Also if I remember correctly, Vicious's 2GB Gskill is also Micron IC, it doesn't work either. -
Hi all guys! i'm Claudio and reeally need your help. I installed windows xp on C90s and got a problem with bluetooth. When you install the driver it doesn't recognize the device, asking you to turn it on. No way to do it with fn+f2. Asked asus and they say to install Wireless console before any wireless driver. tried that also on another c90s, no way at all. It seems that the bluetooth is not working under xp
Anyone had this problem and found a solution? Thanks

Well it seems that there isn't any real solution to this problem yet, but I figured I'd chime in with my specific situation. I am getting the bsod/freezing immediately with gaming and overclocking mode. Standard mode works fine for internet and basic programs, but it freezes when I try to play games. Newer games freeze immediately, older ones will last 10 min or so. To me this seems like a heat issue, but the store I bought this from says it sounds like a ram issue or possibly a turbogear issue with xp. It would be really nice to know the real answer before spending another $100 on ram just to see if that fixes it. I have the 6600, 2 x 1 gig gskill ram, running winXP, and the original bios. I have been trying to upgrade to the 601 bios but can't get it to work. Asus Update says it can't find any bios updates on the websites, and if I download the 601 bios directly it is just a zip folder that won't unzip. Does anyone have a c90 that is running smoothly? Overclocking and everything? What's the secret?

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
My c90 is working perfectly. I think we have had a thread like this before, ah deja vu..
-
Its a Freaking Cycle... My c90 has worked fine (apart from a bad gfx card). 2gigs of ram and e6600. Bought from Gentech

I can play bf2 for over an hour at my school with the screen at high and bluetooth on. Strangely, i cant do it with any other games...
-
I just noticed something today.
I don't know how long it takes or any of that because I haven't done extensive testing on it yet, but when I forget to return the notebook to standard mode from overclock mode, it restarts. Though I don't know how long it takes. over an hour, I know this much... -
Any word on the BIOS update? I thought it was supposed to come out last week. I'm getting sick of tired of my laptop locking up when I unplug it from the wall, same with the Turbo Power Saver mode.

new bios released last week. no noticeable changes.
-
you mean the 704? well, it doesnt improve anything for me
however, my notebook is running fine
-
I'm getting mine tomorrow (just showed as received to wharehouse in QC City). I hope I don't have any problems.
BTW RGS: You didn't have any shipping insurances for the wifi card? -
I'm really frustrated right now... -
Pilone
Sorta happened to me at the beggining but after a reboot it went away.
the laptop need to have all the following installed (at least for me )
-correct wireless drivers
-bluetooth drivers
-atk driver
-atk utility
-wireless console
after all that is installed then try pressing fn+f2 if nothing happens then reboot.
also try downloading the wirelles consolo utility from asus.com. I mean worst case scenario just open the wireless console and do it with your mouse (wireless console should be on your tray its a blue circle) -
ok this is what to do. install BOTH the atk drivers from the install cd. there are TWO folders for it and i forget where they are. run the bluetooth installation and leave it waiting for the bluetooth device to be plugged in. then install the wireless console and at the end of installation leave run wireless console now checked.click the wireless console button in the lower right of the screen disable everything, enable bluetooth only, disable, and reenable it. then click ok for the bluetooth installation -
This is what i've done
1) Installed chipset driver... first time error, second time ok
2)Installed the only one ATK driver present on asus disc
3)Installed Wireless console from cd---> do you wnat to launch wireless console now? Impossibile to launch itAlso tried the version downloaded from their website
4)reboot... no WC icon on tray, nothing... tried to start it manually--->impossible to start configuration, configuration is wrong etc...
Really, can't believe that someone got it to work!!! And now i'm really stuck
If you have anymore ideas you would help a poor guy that is near to launch this notebook through the windows (xp)
Claudio -
one thing (just checking) did you download the xp version of wireless console? im pretty sure theres two of them.
i mean it cant be the atk drivers since wc must be launched for the fn+f2 key to work.
the issue here is taht wc wont lauch once it does youll problem will go away. -
So I got mine today! It was not really hard to set it up, except that 2 of the 3 GPU Fans screw slot are borken or something like this, at least the screws don't fix. It's still very solid with one so I don't think that's an issue.
Now the problem is->
When I turn it on, everything seems to work, except I don't have anything on the screen. The fans are working, the HDD part vibrates and the wireless card light becomes blue. What could the problem be?
Could it be the RAM? It's Corsair Value DDR2 667 -
you mean the screen wont turn on?? or do you mean it does turn on but the bios wont load???
if bios havent load then it shouldnt be a ram problem... how many stick do you have? if you have two try one by one though i highly doubt a ram problem at this point... -
Hey, I was wondering whats the difference between the two intel network cards : 4965AGNMM1WB and 4965AGNMM1GN? Thanks
-
The screen does not turn on. Yeah I doubt it's the RAM. I've tried them on my father Inspiron 1501 and they work well, I also tried my father's ones but same thing (512MB Hynix DDR2 533). I guess I'll call Asus.
Edit: I checked a bit in the manual (on CD) and the HDD access light is blinking, that means it effectively boot right? So it would probably be the GPU right? If It was the CPU's fault, it would do a BEEP BEEP and stop on the bios booting part right?
EDIT 2: I inserted my Vista DVD and it started spinning a low speed (like it usually does on my desktop), I waited 5 seconds and press ENTER, it started spinning at full speed and the HDD ACess light was ON (no blinking) so I actually take it as it booted from it. Meaning the CPU & RAM are okay right?
EDIT 3: Knowing that the CND would take such a jump, I would have ordered from gentech with the GDDR3 8600 =/
EDIT 4: I checked at DirectCanada's RMA page, and the C90S & the 8600M are only availalbe for refund. I asked them if I'd be charge restocking fee (well, something is defective and they can't ship me another one right now so they better not). If i don't have to, I'm SO getting a refund and buying another unit from Gentech with GDDR3 -
The 2 usb ports on the back of my c90 don't work. Anyone else run into this problem? The one on the left of the keyboard works fine so i don't think it could be a driver issue or the like. Any ideas?
Thanks, -
It just seems like a lot of notebook for the money. Can't find a better deal really. But, I could change my mind again for the 5791 lol
-
I got my C90 this week and have no technical issues, everything works fine.
but
my harddrive annoys me sometimes because at boot up it works 2-3min long slowing down loading of background applications by a large margin. It looks like superfetch is not doing well but I rly dont know what the problem is and what my hardrive ist doing the 3 min after booting up.
maybe someone have some ideas? -

-
This is so ****ing stupid. Where is the bios update? it's a pain to lug my ac adapter to class.

Just curious if anyone is having success running 2gb + 1GB corsair value ram in their c90? I know there's batch rev differences but just looking for a clue.
-
Good question, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these, and I assume everything Gentechpc ships out works? So I can go with their configs for ram, right?
-
Sgt. Hollywood Notebook Evangelist
Think the only c90 I can find with the 2gb +1gb Corsair is swoley2k's. And from his game review it seems to work find but who knows? I'm still hearing Kingston and Super Talent batches for the 2GBs'.
Luckily in my case, my 2GB Corsair can be sold for well less than I paid for it in the worse case scenario.
Oh btw that "Sarge" stuff only flies in the Army, not the Corps. (With a nod to White8Ball and Vicious) -

Sgt. Hollywood Notebook Evangelist
No prob, just a little ball busting anyway. Glad to hear you served, thanks for your service.
-
Like others have said, very few machines are proven to run on the same ram. Swoley2k's runs on Corsair no problem, others run on Kingston no problem, mine runs on 1X2GB Kingston and 1X1GB Nanya. I personally went with getting the RAM straight from the reseller. It was not preinstalled, but since that is a free feature that GenTech offers, go for it if you have anything that you're buying "with" the C90.
It's a great laptop by the way. After the few software issues I've had and minor ignorance on my part about the hardware, it has been a very enjoyable expierence and extremely problem free so far. -
go register it on vip.asus.com then just clikc download and it will redirect you. Except if you have 75 minutes or less class you'll probably have to plug it ayway
-
funny thing about my c90 is, the gpu + gpu memory "stock" settings. dont know why but my gpu clock was set to 500 and gpu memory to 450 from the beginning I got the C90 but the real stock settings are 475/400, arent they?
I am using 500/500 now and it runs very stable and I got 80 °C GPU temp when my notebook is idle with this settings (only when using some cpu overclocking with turbo gear or when the cpu is under load, if not the cooler kick in later and the idle temp jumps up to 89°C). (had 95 °C after playing several hours with gaming mode from turbo gear, dont know if this is hot or not for a gpu, nether though about such thinks)
-
According tu asus max temp should be 100c
-
Still not working, nor did Asus awnsered me. If DC does me a full refund (except wireless card, it was 24.99 lol) and back shipping isn't too much, I'll get the combo from infonec.ca They have the combo with the 120GB WD 5400 with 1GB RAM OCZ + E6600 for 1395. Adding another GB of RAM andi t would be 1526 with shipping & taxes.
Or I'd also like to only RMA System + GPU + HDD and get the GDDR3 8600 + 160GB HDD from Gentech. I would have to pay about $40 out of my pocket (Canadian $ FTW, but it would have REALLY nice if it was 2 weeks ago =/)
Or I'll RMA System + GPU and get it from Milestone.
