    Hello all,

has anyone else experienced poor wireless performance with the C90 ?

Basic testing showed my C90 unable to see a wireless network while a HP laptop next to me was connected to said network fine.

    Thanks

Strangely, the C90S froze on me last night when I was gaming. I was in OC mode and playing NeverWinter Nights, 1280 res on best settings.

I took out the CD, went to windows, and it said that the graphics driver recovered with no problems.

    Then something odd popped up.

It told me that the trial version of the BlueTooth Stack Module was over and that I must purchase a registered version of the Bluetooth Stack Module.

I don't even know what a bluetooth stack module is much less why I have buy a registered version of it since it should have came with the bluetooth card and drivers.

I haven't tried to connect anything bluetooth to the laptop yet so I don't even know if the damn thing works. Haven't even tried to detect anything bluetooth active yet either.

I decided to get back to gaming because everything seemed fine afterwards. Everything works fine, so I don't even know what happened.

All in all, the entire experience puzzled me.

Well, the worse case scenario you'll get are blue screens/crashes. You can always return the ram if they are not compatible and purchase the ones that are confirmed to work.

Hi everyone, new to the forums here's my first post.

My C90 came in yesterday. Everything's fine... did all the updates, etc.

But when I play World of WarCraft the system locks up after a minute or so everytime. Team Fortress 2 locks up right when it's about to load the level. I tried reinstalling driver... even reformatting (Vista 32bit). I see people are using the 164 Forceware

and installing the Windows Vista reliability patch.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194

I cannot get either of these to install. The forceware indicates that there aren't any drivers that are compatible on my computer. The reliability patch says it does not apply to my computer either.

    Any thoughts?

Check this out for reliability...there is a problem with nvidia and vista (hosers! :D http://www.nvidia.com/object/windows_vista_hotfixes.html

The forceware won't install unless you replace the stock .inf file with the modded one at laptopvideo2go.com

    gotta run....

Wow thanks man... I want to have your children.

It doesn't permafreeze in like a minute anymore... Team Fortress now allows me yo play... but sometimes it blinks in and out like it's trying to survive now... then a jillion blinks later it freezes.

I applied the fix ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105) and the forceware.

In other words... it doesn't lock up immediately.. but it sure is unstable.

    Any ideas?

Also... would it be fruitless to try to just go to XP?

This is the patch that I applied.... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194

Games I play are Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar (for you hard core strategy freaks :) HL2 and CS:S, and a couple of others...for now and haven't had any problems.

    E6750 has a FSB of 1333 MHz

The C90S will only take a FSB of 1066 MHz.

No, it will not run an E6750. If you want affordable power, the E6600 and the E6700 are the way to go; though I don't see much justice going the E6700 with the marginal power increase for $100. If price does not matter, go the route of the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800 Processor side.

The problem could be that Team Fortress is still technically in Beta. I've seen issues where the screen kinda explodes in to bright triangles. Are you running the latest update from Steam? The update I got last night seems to have fixed my video problems. I played for 3 hours without a glitch.

TF2 is sstill gltichy. The updates have helped but mine does not crash but it does do the triangle thing mentioned occasionally but more often it flash freezes making it seemed like the game crashed but alt tabbing fixes it. Valve is working hard to fix all the problems and the number of crashes and problems have gone down 10 fold after all these updates.

Yea I used to play Team Fortress 2 without ever crashing on my laptop before this one.

I think the hotfix fixed the problem. I noticed that the game freezes when I don't put it in gaming mode first. After that it's fine... but man this thing gets extremely hot. I think I will be after this when it hits stores.

My old laptop, an Acer Ferrari 4005 I've had over 2 years, would get so hot it was scary, the heat coming out the side vent would almost burn your hand...and it would get hot on the left palm rest, actually hotter than this one...so I guess to me I saw it as par for the course to putting powerful processors in a small space...that's one reason I considered a 9260 was for the extra ventilation or space, but I like it

In case this has not been said. c90s works 100% with 3gb installed. if your notebook does not then the issue is that your ram is incompatible or your notebook is faulty. contact your dealer for replacement

Now my HDD cannot be partiotioned under windows' installation software. It just hangs on the boot after, on crcdisk.sys to be exact. I searched, and this is due to intel's SATA root or something that is defective with vista. When I was partiotioning, I also saw that all partitions were "Primary", rather than 1 primary and the rest logical.

Is there a software that would allow me to partitionate after? Cause I really need at least 2 =/

EDIT: Damn, same thing with only 1 partition

EDIT2: I remember people having problems with pirated Vista Ultimate X86 :( Will try loading X64

Hey, can I make a network with 32bit & 64 operated systems mixed up or...?

I hope I'm asking a stupid question but are those of you with memory problems, mainly 2gb+ 1gb, trying the sticks in both slot configuration. ie 2gb on top or 2gb on bottom. I've got my 1gb on bottom and 2gb on top (with laptop upside down )and they are the often negative reported Corsairs.

I read through over 20 pages I feel as though my eyes are about to bleed. So anyway...couple of questions.

    Average idle GPU temperature?

Known fixes for black screen sound loop crashes on games (Oblivion is the #1 contender here - DoD Source and CS:S have done it a few times as well) (I even left the laptop on for a few hours and came back to it being locked like this)? I have tried all kinds of different "fixes" for this and nothing seems to worked. (Turning off bloom worked for CS:S and DoD:S though there have been a few occasions after that)

As far as temperatures go, everything seems natural but the GPU temperature. (mid 50s idle on both cpus - acpi is normally mid 50s as well, but if the laptop has been on for an extended amount of time it gets in the low 60s)

    (XoticPC)
    E6700
3GB ram (not sure the model(s), whatever XoticPC puts in standard)
    8600 512mb
    Vista Business 32bit

I've seen one post by a c90 user who said that he was getting BSOD and non-boots, and solved it by switching the slots his 2gb and 1 gb chip were in. The only way to know if it will work for you is to give it a try. ;)

Nothing so far. I'm thinking of giving up the driver/software search and just go back to what I was using to begin with since I don't use the biult in webcam anyways. I was searching because I was curious.

So far, as it stands, the list of drivers/software that does not work for the built in webcam is as follows:

    Microsoft
    Creative Labs
    Philips
    Labtec

Hit or miss are Logitech and Ezonics. I had a better success rate with Logitech, but the only configuration that always works 100% was just starting with the logitech cam that I own and switching to the built in. Still no success at switching back though.

If anyone else wants to give it a go, have at it because I'm pretty much finished. Asus needs to do some testing and fix the issue.

Yes. Same as you, Ultimate X64. I learned quickly that disabling the original drivers throws me a BSOD, so I've been trying different combonations of drivers and software installs to go with it. Been at it for a few day's now but I've had no luck so far on just getting the webcam to work by itself.

I have a Logitech Orbicam MP from my old laptop so I use that instead. The drivers and software that came with that seem to work fine, normally hit or miss when it comes to starting the built in webcam on it's own, but switching from the logitech cam to the built in renders no problems untill I try to switch back to the logitech. Ezonics worked the first and fifth time I tried starting the built in cam on it's own. 2 out of 5. I label it as random and pretty much useless unless you can figure it out. I wasn't messing with settings, just installing, rebooting, start webcam, repeat.

    tpm?

Oh, it was the battery getting hot, not the HDD.

I think I found part of my GPU overheating problems. Since I had been on power saving for like an hour, the cooling system was as much as hot as the GPU itself, so when it needed to cool it, the fans weren't strong enough

EDIT: I changed the thermal paste on my 8600 and ran another 3dmark06. In the 2 tests before the cpus, it got to 97C and in the 2 last ones, it went to 94C. So that's the normal one right? Won't be able to OC the core but still....

And man, I really thought the notebook was gonna explode when the fans starting running for real

In Oblivion the GPU temp jumped up to ~100 last night. I am not sure of what a normal temperature for a laptop gpu is. First laptop I've had. In a desktop that would be completely unacceptable.

People are saying it idles at 55 and goes to 80 in load, mine is 80-88 idle and 95-102 in load

When I wake my C90S, it's BSOD on AC mode and it works well in battery mode. Isn't it supposed to be the other way arround. And is it normal my HDD stays hot while hibernating? I thought hibernate was the RAM's job

My question is, what do the Asus Engineers think is acceptable for the C90 gpu temps? I know damn well they've tested it extensively before release. How can we get word on this?
