That's good news. But I'm seriously wondering about how it's gonna get cooled though... Or maybe it was just a problem with the G84M batches that Asus used, wich is a possibility imo cause Dell can make it stays at 65 under load...
-
The 8800 also has a die shrink used...so the core will be smaller which essentially will put off less heat. I think...another thing, since Asus makes our cards, they might even include a new cooler with it, such as a pure copper solution. Since this will work in the C90P, it will already have the copper cooler.
-
I'm praying to the laptop Gods for this.
-
the conroe chips run rather hot compared to the 45nm wolfdale cpu's (penryn)..hopefully using a wolfdale E8xxx will leave some room for extra heat coming from an 8800m :>
and penryn cpu's need much less power....power that can be used for the 8800m
but overclocking an e8400 near 4 ghz inside this notebook will prolly be too much to ask though -
i cannot wait 4gigs of ram(hopefully 800mhz) 4core, 8800m. in a laptop!
-
E8xxx are dual core, not quad core. It would be nice to have quad core on C90s that's for sure. That, 8800m, and a lot cheaper SSD's (another market)
but i have read that an E8500 can be overclocked to 4,3Ghz -
e8400 and e8200 can also be overclocked to 4 ghz and higher....on air cooling
-
That 45nm technology must be that great...if they're overclockable to 4+ ghz on just air cooling.

Anyone know the release date yet?
-
Lurker, new member,
I'm interested in building the C90P since it seems like a C90S but with improved goodies. I'm mostly interested because the P (thanks to the new MB chipset) will be able to use 45NM cores and my friend at Intel can get me any high end chip for 130 bucks, so it becomes even more lucrative for me to pursue this route (he can't get mobile chips, only desktop chips). Fortunately most of my questions have been answered regarding the C90P from searching through the forums, so like the guy above me inquired, when is the release date?
I'm also glad to see they went to full copper heat sinks, i plan on using Liquid Pro as my thermal compound (only works with copper) so that will work out perfectly. -
hey is the c90p actually being released? i'm just thinking about buying the c90s, the c90p is takin too long to come out.
Is there any sign of the c90p because it was suppose to be released shortly after the c90s originally, then it was shown in January at CEbit or CES or something - I don't keep up with these things - personally I think its going to be release in summer, as the c90s was. It would make sense, make some profit off of the c90s and then release its better bigger brother a year later -
There was supposedly (I believe) a June or July release date floating around the forums. Since I heard of that, however, nothing more has surfaced.
-
I suppose according to this link,
http://www.nexus13.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=351&idproduct=1319#details
c90p will come out in September and will carry a 9600M GT, and not the original 8700M GT as said. Which means that if the C90P is capable of 8700M GT and now they changed it with the 9600M GT, C90S will not be able to handle that gpu.
Also layout seems identical all around, so the motherboard should fit into the c90s. C90S motherboard costs 200$ from ASUS, so the new one would cost maximum 300$ or so.
Cant wait to see if we can fit this babe into our babies -
Here's to hoping that if we can change out the motherboards, we can keep the 8600m GT and our old processors ram, etc in the new ones...I'm not going to pay $5-600 if it doesn't support the older stuff.
-
It should support the old CPU and RAM, but maybe not the GPU which anyway is the one part that everyone wants to change. That's the whole point of changing the mobo. I guess
Again that's all in the case ASUS decides to provide us with these options, and not the shaft. -

Yeah CPU & Ram will not be a problem unless they specifically block it in bios somehow as the chipset is backwards compatible.
GPU... maybe it is since its MXMII but just like Evil said the gpu is pretty much the main reason (aside from 4gb ram and hopefully bug fixes) to upgrade to the C90P.
The news of the 9600gt vs 8700gt is not bad as they should be equal in performance but the 9600 will run cooler and use less power. But I was still hoping for the 9700gt. I guess they wanted to make sure the new G50 doesn't have another model with similar price range to steal its thunder. -
I hope it's a GDDR3 9600M GT
But hum, if the C90S' mobo is $200, why are they selling the whole unit $750? I heard that motherboards are what cost a lot in a laptop. But $550 for case + screen + wireless modules.... -
Yep i can see your point JCMS but I suppose assembly counts for some money + profits for retailers.
The 9600M GT DDR3 should be a lot better card than the one we have now, but yes it's still the least powerful from the new generation
Sager/Clevo allows an MXM IV into 15,4" models, why doesn't ASUS move into MXM III for c90p ?
wishful thinking.. -
Sorry about that, just remembered that 8700M GT and 9600M GT are MXM III, which probably means that C90P is also MXM III ?
we'll see -
Only the 8700M GT. From nvidia's screen, the 9700M GT looks to be MXM-II. The clevo is also running a laptop cpu, so it takes less place and less heat.
On a side note: My 8600M GT is back at 74C idling, and my E4500 decided to get hot a bit, no need for folding@home anymore. This laptop is alive, I swear it. -
My temperatures are also similar (@idle): GPU: 75C
Core0:57/Core1:58
HDD: 54
They used to be a bit higher but I've placed some heat dissipating fins, which are actually used for the memory module chips of the desktop pcs
But they do some work. I fitted 8 of them inside and there's space for more. I was worried about the air flow which could be obstructed by the fins, but then I thought that these things are meant to be placed in air flows so it's ok
Unfortunately I've done this a month ago or so, and I don't have the temperatures before and after for a comparison.
Another thing that I've noticed is that the GPU produced less heat when I had Vista installed instead of the XP now. Perhaps Vista somehow manages the GPU load better? or the fans are working more intense when using Vista thus keeping the GPU temps lower. Don't know.
I even tried to place a heat sensor and managing chip separately just for the GPU fan so it can work on it's own and be kept cool always and not just when the CPU get's hot. Usually they both get hot under an application which demands GPU load, but it's still better for the GPU to have it's own fan. Thoughts?[Btw I never succeeded with the sensor attempt

Now my GPU is at 72 and my CPU at 52. I've never seen this! It used to idle 80~85 before Vista SP1. Linux idle is 90 though (compiz........). Now I don't even have to use folding@home anymore. I fear or re-installation windows in the future lol. My guess is that I misplaced the CPU heatsink a bit, but I won't complain. My CPU temps used to be 62 gaming load, 66 folding@home, 68 both combined. Now it's 70 gaming & folding@home, 75 both combined. Not using folding@home also stopped the stutterings in game

Im in the 50s idle, maybe mostly due to my mod. All is well but I kinda want to upgrade to the new G50Vm.
Its hard as heck to sell a C90S tho so I am probably not going to be able to. -
G50Vm is the best looking gaming rig so far
I envy anyone who has it
Unfortunately am just a student yet and I can't afford it, and another thing which would drive me away is that it's not customizable. Ok the GPU obviously is cool enough for a 15.4"er but the CPU is "only" 2.0Ghz.
Hopefully am wrong and ppl can order it with better CPU and faster RAM
Yet as it is should easily knock out any C90S and maybe even C90P -
Another minus for the G50Vm Vicious, is that it's screen only supports 1366 x 768, but it may not be very dramatic being a 15.4 incher and all..
-
To be honest, if it's not the Best Buy edition, I would go with Clevo M86TU over the G50. Too bad Sager does not offer the 3870 anymore, it was $300 cheaper than the 9800M GT
It's $1718 at Xotic with a 250GB HDD and a 3 years warranty -
I take back anything i've said for the G50V since apart from stunning looks, it can accommodate up to a 2.80Ghz cpu and 4GB 800Mhz Ram, 2 hard drives and other goodies.
I wish I was rich -
^^^
agreed. -
Gentech is selling the G50v-A2 and G50v-A1 with the T9400(2.53Ghz) so it def can handle more than 2.0
-
Yeap I know Blowtorch, I made a correction to my comment with a new one. Indeed G50v is customizable up to a 2.8Ghz. My GPU (8600M GT) gave up on me yesterday and I ordered a new one.
That's a bad timing for someone who's expecting full upgrades to come along with the c90p.
That wont stop us from changing into new mobo and GPU (and RAM)...
COME ON ASUS!!!!!! -
You weren't on warranty anymore?
But you did buy it for $98 on asus estore right? -
Nope my warranty expired a few days ago
And I ordered it from another store which was 130something $.
I think the one in the ASUS store is a 8600M GT at 256mb (ddr2) because it's shown like that: "C90S MN8600M GT/HTDI/256M/A(P555) DDR II"
I wasn't sure so I ordered it from elsewhere at 512mb. I didn't have the patience to ask and wait for response about that model -

Just want to say guys I went to go download the drivers for my C90S off the Asus main page since I just sold it and was being nice enough to make a drivers disk for the new owner and you know how it had 3 drop down boxes?
Product
Model
Series
well under the series drop down it has C90S & C90P listed, so it may be soon in comming they made a section for it for drivers/bios downloads. I didnt check if it actually has anything there yet. -
-
It was reported several pages ago -
I am selling my Asus C90S. It is in the Buy, Sell, Trade forum...

I'm a buy not lease kind of guy so I'll still hang with you C90'ers. I just want a new GPU that's not crap.
-
Phew... I thought I was all alone for a second lol
-
Haha, I'm def going to hang onto mine for a long while to come.
-
Well, I just sold mine as well. Sorry guys, couldn't wait any longer for a better video card and sadly it looks like a dead end for the c90s. c90p maybe different, but it's taking too long.
-
I'm sticking with mine as well. I do hope that there will be some new parts coming out that the C90S will support, though half the fun of this machine for me has been tinkering around with all the parts...
-
Sticking with my C90s as well. I have had reasonable luck with mine, and it's been a year now that i've had mine. Thanks to Gentech installing my lucky Micron RAM without fault, all seems well; still hanging onto my 0704 BIOS too.
For someone who moves every 2-5 months, having a reasonably portable powerhouse was just amazing for my needs. The screen is beyond awesome; I couldn't have asked for more considering the price tag. The heat has never been too bad, the CPU caps at 78C under load (56C idle) as all the fans go into full power, and my gfx card caps at 105C, but I never reach those temps unless I'm using 3DMARK.
My only anger is at the lack of "Upgrades" to the MXM II slot. I said I'd hang onto my laptop for 3-4 years and thats what i'm doing. -
I'll still be with my C90S. Can't afford to buy a new one for a long while! I can only hope that Asus redeems themselves by releasing something for the C90S or it will be the last and only time I buy an Asus laptop.
Anyway, Swoley, thanks for all that you've done for us. Love your autoinstall releases. They will be missed. -
So, September has come. Still no word on the C90P?
I'll be sticking with my C90S for as long as it takes (I can hope, can't I?). I recently installed one of the new Broadcom Draft-N card, installed Leopard, and I am extremely satisfied. Can't wait for a better GPU though.
