pleased so far but not really impressed. next laptop will most likely be another asus though. the performance and looks for price is is too hard to pass up
the screen is a killer though. i have to use my rma to get a new one that doesnt have patchy backlighting
the poor battery life also sucks but then again its my fault for buying it knowing that it wouldnt last that long away from the wall

I am very happy with my N10J. It is an awesome little machine.
-
Hmmm, well, I like my ASUS W3J, it is very well made, holding up well and as a powerful GPU.
On the downside, ASUS is usually bad at driver and BIOS support, and it gets too much hot [a non-issue since I got my Notepal Cooler ^_^]
Overall, I am pretty happy with my laptop, though I am not happy about the newer ASUS laptops... -
bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got my new G50VT-A1 and LOVE IT.
Just setup RAID0 and ran the recovery disks, I also installed the latest express gate that works with RAID and I am good to go.
I tried out the new FEAR 2 game and cranked it.
I am seeing fairly similar gaming performance to my desktop pc which has an 8800 Ultra 768MB, 3.6GHz quad, and 8GB RAM. So not too shabby at all.
The only issue I have with the laptop is that the standard 6 cell battery sucks. I'm going to order the 9 cell. -
I am somewhat confuse, how can Asus make such great laptops, but yet they can't seem to make atleast half decent battery control mechanism (if thats what you call it?)?
-
-
There are simply no words to describe how much i love my vt-a1!
@thebeep, where do you download expressgate?? I cant find it an want RAID0!! -
They are just lazy to code the ACPI properly, they can definitely get much more out of it. Consider how the G50Vt has pretty much the same battery life as the G50V, so they must have an upgraded ACPI in the Vt. Too bad we can't program it ourselves, or can we?
@Tenspeed, you can find it on support.asus.com, but you need to search for expressgate in the search box at the top right corner. Good luck finding a server that is reliable -
ProfessorChaos Notebook Consultant
bought my A8Jm in August 2006...
Serviced it twice so far, both times for broken hinges.
It recently died (motherboard failed) 2 weeks ago. Brought it in yesterday to ASUS Canada and it's been fixed, just waiting to go pick it up this afternoon.
Overall, my experience with ASUS notebooks (my cousin has one as well) leaves something to be desired. Given the price premium that ASUS notebooks command, it's disappointing to see them get outpaced by other brands nowadays (think Lenovo or Dell XPS).
When I first got it, it was an amazing machine but now time has caught up and the less then stellar build quality (on that model, I can't say for other models because I know there are better built ASUS out there) is starting to catch up even though I've nothing but babied it (shock abs sleeve)
The screen on my A8Jm is horrific, the worst notebook screen I've ever seen. It's a CMO manufactured LCD. Colours are washed out; blacks are grey with backlight leakage; and it's response is slow enough to almost see ghosting trails.
Service has been splendid though. Given the ASUS Canada Service Centre is a mere 10 minutes drive from my house, it's nice to RMA in person and explain the situation to the technician. Plus, their turnaround time is phenomenal, my experiences have always been within one business day.
As much as I like ASUS motherboards and their other products, I will most likely buy a Lenovo next time. It's not that the notebooks are bad but they are not good enough to keep me from purchasing another brand. ASUS support website is in shambles as well, a great deterrent. -
Do I like it as a laptop? Eh its ok. Gets the job done I guess ( not worth it for the price I paid ).
Do I like it as a heater? It does very well as a bed warmer. Very well. Well enough to the point it feels like it could burn me. -
I love both of my Asus's. Right now, I'm posting on my new Eee PC 1000H and simultaneously downloading files on it while playing/modding Fallout 3 on my G1S.
-
One of the Asus i own is a 12 inch laptop. I have had other machines since then but i always end up back with the asus. it plays games decent in a pinch with gforce 9300m g graphics and small and light enough to lay in bed with. I dont know of any other 12 inch laptops with a more powerful dedicated gpu then this one so I will hold on to it for quite awhile.

YESSSSSSSSSSS I FINALLY GOT MY ASUS F6V LAPTOP!!!!!!!
I didnt really like the cover, thought it looked cheap and plastic. I like the inside, it was very responsive etc. I like it! -

lol
Nope, i'm not really into that whole scented gimmick. Only thing i don't like about this asus f6v is the lid seems kinda cheap, like its just plastic. Other than that, i am really satisfied with this laptop! -
bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I liked my ASUS with linux on it, but I'm selling it now. I've been so fed up with Windows, that I'm going to go with Mac. I never thought I would get a mac, but the guys at the store answered all my questions, so I'm good.
-
I have only had my ASUS for a couple of weeks now, but I am very satisfied so far. I didn't vote love it because I am not sure how much love I will have in three months or more. So far it runs like a dream, fast, clear and clean. I wish it wasn't so flashy, I teach and my students seem to enjoy it toooooo much. Proud owner of ASUS G50vt-x6. You all know, one of the ORANGE laptops.
-
lol, we can always trade notebooks
-
bump!!!!!!!!!

You will be glad to know that I have added this thread on top of the Important Threads list in the ASUS Info Booth.
-
really happy!
-
lol. Otherwise the majority of IDK's posts will be bumps
-
I think the biggest annoyance with my laptop is the battery life, but that hasn't been a huge drawback in any situations for me yet.

vote some more guys!

g50vt-x5 is the best notebook I have ever layed my hands and eyes on. Plays everything on max settings(makes world at war look 10times better then the ones for 360 and ps3) and the battery life is amazingly good for such a powerful gaming laptop. i get 3 hours surfing and2 and a half on movies.

Asus G50VT-x5: BEST PRICE TO PERFORMANCE RATIO IN A LAPTOP IN THE HISTORY OF LAPTOPS!!! EVER!!!

Worst notebook I've ever bought
SO bad. I have an F8VA-B1 in case you're wondering.
I just bought a Macbook Pro and it's night and day. Asus needs to improve their build quality (chintzy construction, cheap materials, low quality display, etc) and design (ports in the most awkward places, horrible design flaws...).
If you want to know all the reasons why this laptop blows read my review of it in the F8 series owners' lounge. -
consider the premium you have to pay for the macbook pro though... theres a big difference.

Myne was perfect out of the box and since it smokes every pc I have ever owned i am very happy with its performance versus its price.
-
it's not only about specs and performance
the F8VA was good on paper and it was fast... everything else about it was trash. -
Wonder if anyone here owned a EEE PC and vote it in here? lol..

-
How are the Eee's? I might get one for college next year.

I hate
my current 5 year old Asus A2K (internationally it is called the z80k). Here is why:
- DVD-burning was always a matter of luck, until the burning function completely died after 3 years. Reading from Discs work.
- Uneasy fan behavior (switching on & off every 2 minutes) is annoying. All the Asus Utilites were useless - they worked but they couldn't keep the notebook quiet, even when setting the Powermanagement to "Office Mode". The CPU still got so hot every 2 Minutes the fan switched on. By downlocking from 1800 to 400 Mhz I achieved maximum 3 minutes silence...
- The GPU (Ati Mobility 9700) was weaker/worse than a Mobility Ati 9600 - I don't know how they achieved that...
- The Harddisk died after 3 years with every data lost
- The RAM slot was hardly accessable (the procedure to get to it was the stupidest I've ever seen), the more of it the RAM type was a rare expensive one, not Kingston compatible
- The Akku died after 3 years completely, it cannot be charged anymore. Also it was a very expensive Akku type compared to others.
- After 4 years the display hinge got loose and now the axis is completely broken on the left side, metal is burst, plastic parts fall out, display cover is split
- I forgot: it was a 64 bit AMD mobile Processor, but in fact it was not possible to install Windows 64 bit
- After a BIOS update from the Asus website it was finally possible to use a 64 bit OS, but then the ACPI Management was somehow messed up and new Ati drivers couldn't install correctly anymore, because of an Interrupt Error
- I could manage a "solution" by doing a Windows "Desktop-Install" which had no Notebook features anymore (e.g. Standby Mode when closing the lid, etc.)
- In the end that was annoying too, but the next time I looked for an updated BIOS on Asus website, the 64-bit BIOS was gone - as if it had never existed - and the Asus Flash Tool was not able to flash the BIOS downwards, so I had to use a "hack" to set the BIOS Image back to its initial state - thankfully that worked
Warranty was 2 years... and after that, everything fell apart (literally). The only thing I invested, was to buy a new Harddisk, anything else than than was too expensive and not worth (e.g. upgrade) anymore after all these issues - a waste of money. This laptop cost 1.400€. All in all my experience was *horrible* at best.
Now I am not willing to spend more than a 1.000 bucks anymore on laptops, since there is so much that can be f-cked up. I am not impressed with Asus' notebook quality. Though I am considering the new Asus K Series (again a "K" :-s). I wonder what kind of pits this series will offer... -
I am using a F8Va-C1 and I like that a lot. Can you tell us "which" parts of it are trash besides the performance?
I am really shocked to see that someone says "it is a trash". Honestly, I have never seen such a comment for the F8VA series before.

Love it, I have the G50VT-X6 and everything runs great and I love the lights, oled, etc... where other brand don't have. Comes with a 2 year warranty and the customer service is the best I've ever delt with.

A small learning curve to really get the best out of my G50V, but once done I am continually impressed with the machine.
The few issues that have popped up have been dealt with; thanks to the feed back on these discussion pages.
Very satisfied owner. -
-
The experience (which was at least as worse as with my last Gericom laptop which needed to "warm up" for 1/2 hour etc.) however told me to be much more careful next time... At least there are not many issues left, that I don't know of -
Bought the N-10 because it had great specs , discrete vid card with option to use integrated vid card for extra battery life . So far , 2 months , it has been great . Very happy with the n-10 .
If xp pro were available on regular notebooks , like the hp 8530 , i would have only Asus laptops . -
have u game on the n10 yet? if so, what is it like looking at a small screen like that? does it hurt your eyes?
-
I have an Asus G50V-A089C.
Love the performance.
Love the looks.
...and fairly happy with battery life
Also loved my 3 previous ASUS laptops owned! -
My Asus is my backup computer. Nothing wrong i could say.
-
I've been very happy with my N81, though I am selling it for another Asus model. The laptop runs cool and quiet and is quite powerful given the size. The LED display is mighty sweet.
-
I LOVE MY ASUS! If only i could mary it
Do you like your Asus?
