Although my X3 gave me hard time when it arrived (DOA), I love it now. A lot of useful features. Everything is good.

Got this N70 sv-x1 for summer gaming to reduce heat out put to living quarters ( Have an Asus formula mobo with 8600E @ 4.4GHz and Asus 4870x2 vid card in a dual loop cooling set up with 2 three 120mm fan rads that puts out a lot of heat). Didn't want the top performance gaming laptop to keep heat to a minimum.

Well I got more than I anticipated in the performance area. It displays and plays the Steam on line games (TF2 and DOD etc.) extremely well as well as COD2 multiplayer. In addition it plays blue ray DVD's as good as I anticipated. Although the laptop screen will not display 1080p (compromise native resos for gaming vs laptop performance) it is fantastic for my needs. Really happy with the low heat generated even after hours of gaming relative to the desktop.

Yeah, it won't really push the highend games like my desktop, but it is just what is needed for the games mentioned that I spend most my time on. Just love this laptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought an Asus A8JS almost three years ago. Hardware reliability has been top notch along with the warranty and service repair response.

However case plastics could be higher quality. I've had problems with the upper LCD panel cracking at the hinges. The unit was sent in twice under the two year warranty for repairs. The plastics also discolor at the touch pad and where ever you rest your palms on the chassis. Asus support replaced all these items under warranty. I've only traveled with this notebook one time. It's never been dropped and always stored in it's carry case that was provided by Asus.

I'm getting ready to buy another Asus and hope they have improved the plastics.

My first experience with Asus was a G50vt-X6. Three months later I'm kicking it on a G51vx-RX05.

I have no regrets with either one.

I previously had an Asus laptop an A8XXX series, it isn't that powerful but it worked well for me. Though if I don't need to move alot I prefer to buy desktop PCs..

Right now I'm using HP compaq, but yes ASUS is a good brand.

Well let's see. The G51vx-RX05 would be my first Asus and first laptop I have had. I guess I might feel a slight amount of regret, but not that I should have gone with a different manufacturer, but that I didn't go with an A1 or wait to see how the fall notebooks turned out before I made my purchase. Although really I didn't buy it myself and it was considered a gift, which is why I didn't want to push the price too high.

I could always buy a new processor, but I guess I'm a little worried about voiding my warranty so early. Longer battery life would be nice, but that's more wishful thinking when it comes to gaming laptops. I might have to get used to using a cooler with this thing, but that's alright.

But as of right now I am happy with it and I'm looking forward to sticking with Asus for my next laptop upgrade. :)

I am extreemly happy. Put in a 500 GB 7200.4, upgraded the ram to CAS5 I had in an old laptop. 6+ hours of battery compared to 2+ for my P-7805u is like night and day. I can move around the house with no issue.

Myh only wish would be a backlit keyboard and say 1660x950 or so resolution but this does fine. I have a U-80 keyboard on order and will get out the soldering iron soon.......... :)

I LOVE my Asus. At this point I think there are only two manufacturers I'd even consider for my next laptop purchase, Asus and Clevo/Sager.

Been using Asus for a couple of years now and I gotta say they are the best.

I will stick to Asus notebooks until the end :)

Part of my love for Asus was thanks to GentechPC, Ken from Gentech has always been helping me around with suggestions on what to buy and offering great support. Trully the best! Resellers like him made me want to get Asus only and never look back. :D

I am also so far satisfied with my M50VM. Mine is running 8 hours everyday.
No heating or any other problems. It is very powerful and very quiet.

My first ASUS notebook F3jp was disaster. It had three RMA's. Mainboard problems, hard disk failed and power adapter died.
The RMA experience here in Germany was also very good. Most of the time they sent the Notebook back after one week.

Recently quality has improved a lot. I love M50VM and I think the next notebook I buy would also be ASUS. :)

I like my G72GX-Rbrx05 that i got from best buy for about $1.2k(including CA tax =[ ). Its fast and the build quality feels great, but some things I dislike about it is that the fan is also on during use such as web surfing, so I had to use my Sony MDR-V6 headphones to silence that annoying sound whenever I did work.

Also the contrast on my G72 is sooo bad, the colors are vibrant after but this computer can't display black to save its life.

Also another thing I enjoy about Asus is the neat software that came preloaded such as Turbo Gear(overclocking). I'm a bit of an audiophile, not too nerdy about sound but I do enjoy high fideilty sound. It was nice that Asus allows all computers they make to install SRS Premium Sound on their computer even if it wasn't an advertised feature =]. Sony MDR-V6 headphones + SRS Premium Sound = Sound Euphoria

Im happy with everything about it except the BSOD when playing some games and the fact that it locks up when I use Ventrilo.

So that makes me not like it very much so far.

I said I was satisfied, I got an asus g51J about 3 weeks ago and am starting to use it now.
I had my prev laptop a Fujitsu Amilo M 1425 for 5 years.

Things I dislike about the asus are the fan output on the left , on the Amilo it was on the left and I did't feel it so much. I'm inclined to hold the laptop on the left side and its really to hot to hold it. Also the palm rest is a little warm on the left side.

The fan is also on most of the time , its a low sound , but def noticeable.

Apart from that I like most of the rest of it.
I slighty overpaid for mine I think ( 1850 euro in ireland ) , but I think thats mainly because I wanted it straightaway & it also has the nvidia 3d kit.
The nvidia kit is around 200$

The rest of the spec was very good and easily worth 1500 euro or there abouts.
I got a 9 cell battery which i didn't ask for which was a nice bonus.
And the 1TB of 7200 storage was good too.

I think overall I'm getting used to a new laptop , but the pro's of it are very strong.

The only question I still have is if I should have gone for the Asus N61 instead. But no other brand really came close ( MSI maybe ),

G73JH-A1; my first (and probably last) ASUS notebook, unless they bestir their oriental a$$e$ and come up with some fixes for the roughly 25-30% of us who are having problems with them. I don't know about y'all, but last time I checked, a 25% fail rate is abysmally unsatisfactory.

Touchpad is, well, "touchy;" skittish. Pushbutton (single, rocker-style) is stiff and heavy. Checkbox for "disable touchpad when typing" doesn't. Hardware (keyboard; FN+F9) works, but only for a short while. Some event that I haven't yet been able to pin down frees it up, and it's off into the weeds again, taking the last paragraph you typed and sending you two pages back in the browser.

Keyboard Lag... dropped characters and double caps are typical. Try typing space-a-space-a-space-a-space-a... (not the "-", just the space and the a), as fast as you are generally able to type (I'm pretty fast), and you'll get a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a aa a and such garbage as that. Also, beginning a sentence, very typical is to get "ALso..." The caps key just doesn't drop fast enough. I've seen a post that states 'black crud on the keyboard ribbon cable,' but I haven't opened mine up yet (Warranty, dont'cha know)

Flaky RAdeon (see there?) drivers, misbehaving Catalyst Suite.

The dreaded "green screen of death," or GSOD; haven't seen that one myself, but I haven't been able to run Win7 (64) since the day after I pumped Ubuntu 10.4 (Putrid Lynx) into it. Unable to do any heavy gaming.

Being told that your Windows7 key is invalid after flashing the BIOS to a newer version (trying to clear up all the damned bugs, no doubt...) Have to call MS to make it right, but first you have to run an app that generates a long-winded file for them to read before they'll tell you how to fix it.

    The ever-popular, "FN+ESC" lockup bug.

The keyboard backlighting going away forever after updating BIOS (you know why we're doing that, by now...); rolling back to the earlier version does NOT fix it.

Crunchy, static-y noises coming from the speakers. Nasty sound. As far as I've been able to tell, disabling the SoundBlaster-compatible drivers fix this, but there goes your gorgeous sound (Gaming Monster my A$$ !!)

Suspend/HIbernate (I'm not even going to bother fixing the keyboard errors anymore...) fails to Wake/REsume, by any means. No keyboard combo brings it back. Have to hold power button 'til it goes down, reboot, and when it comes back, a lotta stuff ain't the way you left it. Settings have changed. Networking is disabled (in Linux, anyway, which is my only functioning OS at the moment).

A smaller percentage of 'em are running really HOT, for no apparent reason.

RMA it, send it out for repair, and it comes back all banged up. One poor slob had his display screen replaced with a lower resolution one ~!!!!! There goes the 1080i-HD, the gorgeous games, and might as well load the vanilla VGA drivers too, 'cause you sure aren't going to be getting your $worth out of the ATI card.

Did I mention the **&^#@@!!! touchpad??

In Linux, UBuntu in particular (only 'cuz I use it), there seem to be no ATI drivers that work worth a darn. All that lovely desktop Compiz eye-candy just doesn't run. Tearing, static bars, etc. ATI does supply Linux drivers, but not MOBIL drivers. 'parently there's a big difference beyond the physical form-factor in the desktop and mobil versions of the same card. The picture is even more bleak when it comes to things like, oh, the TOUCHPAD, audio drivers, etc.

My vendor, XoticPC, was initially offering upgraded heat-sink compounds; that option was pulled when it was discovered what a SOB it was to tear this thing down in order to do so. So sorry, no option for you!! It was also stated that the G73 was RAID capable --- NOPE! The regular chipset is RAID capable, but the one in here, AIN'T. Oh, well, you'll like it anyway, we promise.....

There's more, quite a bit more, but I've listed more than enough to condemn this model as an Edsel... or maybe a Corvair? "Useless at Any Speed." Where's Ralph??

Oh, and when you get a motherboard from them, the manual that comes with it is over a half-inch thick, small-type, crammed with everything you could want to know about it. This thing? A crappy little fold-over that has nice little line illustrations, with little arrows that point to the various ports and points of interest. And that's it. A brief treatise on how to recover your install should "Bad Things (tm)" happen. It (the recovery process) doesn't work, either.

Unless I see some serious action being taken to address these and other faults cropping up like an epidemic all over the 'net, in forums everywhere, I'm going to RMA this POS ASAP until I get one that does work, like the other 75-ish % do, and it'll be the last ASUS unit I'll ever purchase.

I've had nothing but praise for their motherboards when I was building desktop units, their monitors have given me great service, I've had a couple of high-level gaming cards by ASUS; in short, they've been top-drawer in my book for years. I've unhesitatingly recommended them to countless people at every opportunity.

    No more.

I forgot about this thread, I just now voted. I love this thing. Everyone needs one of these :) battery life is amazing, over 2 hours+ when set up correctly, powerful video card, i7 processor, crap loads of ram, and its price is CHEAP for what it comes with.

any issues? only 1, just the alt, esc which was already fixed. any other issues isn't asus fault but other softwares fault.

psod? a small percentage of people had this and I'm sry to hear that but the majority should have a perfect lappy, especially now since lots of tests and debugging has been done.

edit - O and it sounds awesome too for a laptop.

edit - gsod? bsod? ati's fault, not asus and can be fixed easily. I can't judge them cause of that. my score, 10/10

It's a steal for the price but with what I've been given it looks like a pretty big number of em are defective. Mine doesn't wake from sleep/hibernate and I can't update the video drivers without a 25% reduction in performance and GSODs so looks like I'm stuck on stock drivers, but this is the only one that's lasted more than 24 hours of the three I've had in the past 4 days so hopefully it'll make it.

I'm lovin' my Asus.Got it just over a month ago. Its a G73jh. Got it because I needed something powerful enough to render my 3d models/animations with a large enough screen to work on my drawings. Also it had to fit within my restricted budget. It was real bargain for what its got in it so I figured it would be an awesome choice. Have only had minor issues which were just mistakes on my part so no counts against it there.

I started with an eeepc 1000. It was a little computer I bought just for surfing the net on the couch, but once I moved out it turned into my one and only pc. It never skipped a beat, no matter what I through at it. That pretty much started my love affair with Asus. Now I have the g73 a2. It was a bit of a step up (ha!) but I'm glad I did it. Aside from some small software issues I had early on its been perfect. To think I almost bought a toshiba x500 *shudders* I'm a massive fan of asus now so I can't see myself buying anything different in the future.

I would have voted the top option but I don't believe in forcing something upon someone that may not be wanted.

A little competition is good, too. If Asus was completely dominant in the laptop market, then obviously we would have much more expensive laptops.

I voted I liked it because it has been everything I hoped it would be, but it is also a somewhat wild beast, that has to be kept on a very short leash. Haphazard updates to hardware and drivers is risky, and even Windows settings must be done very cautiously and not hastily. I know a lot experts here have their wild G73s tamed and performing well, but a lot of people are also getting mauled by underestimating the seriousness of tinkering without full knowledge. So I have a healthy respect and fear of doing anything without making system image backups, and understanding fully everything that an update, or setting will do, and testing thoroughly all collateral probabilities. :D

I'm not happy with my 1005HA. I know that it's a netbook, but things like burning camera and touchpad wires aren't really acceptable in any consumer electronic device.

Now I'm left without a touchpad and have to use an external mouse with my netbook and the camera doesn't work.

Other than that, it's a good netbook.

Received my g73jh 5/28 and I've only used it for a grand total of 2 weeks. Rest of the time either fedex has it or Asus has it. Can't say I'm pleased with it.

I bought a A8J-P when it launched in December 2006. I remember the first day it was listed on Newegg and I grabbed it the next day. Absolutely love this laptop. It had everything that I wanted: good processor, a pretty good video card, and an absolutely fantastic screen for a 14" laptop (1440x900). It's still going strong and it still serves me absolutely perfectly. But I won't be buying another Asus until they come out with higher resolution screens for their mid-size laptops; IMO 1366x768 for a 13-15" screen is simply unacceptable nowadays.

Love it, Asus W3J purchased because at the time it had a good GPU in a 14"chassis that looked good, brushed alloy lid etc.

Purchased in mid 2006, since then, have upgraded CPU to Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33ghz T9600, RAM 3gb, HDD 2 x WD Scopio Blue 320gb, Intel 5300 A/G/N Wifi, this laptop is still quick, currently running Win7 64bit, only thing slowing it down now is the GPU.

Has been rock solid, I wouldn't have thought when I purchased it, that it would last this long, I have been testing laptops for work and this still keeps up with new mid range laptops, its just the new i5+ series that blast away.

I would say though some of their cheaper models are not soo good, but i also purchased a F3J for my wife in late 2006 and it also is still going strong with Win7 32bit, although her chassis looks a bit worse for ware, still works well.

Loved the W7S until the defective 8400M GPU blew up a few months out of warranty. Replacement parts aren't even available.

    Now it's a pretty $1600 paperweight.

I'm on the fence due to poor defective drive replacement, on third RMA for something that should not have taken more than one. The call wait time is getting excessive and starting to see some very dissatisfied user posts.

Most people ignore all the whining..until they are bitten?

Asus needs to get on the ball if they don't want to be also rans. I've had problems with my last two Dells but the "at home" service has been fantastic..something I would like Asus to offer.

I've been enjoying my G73JH (the newest version with the higher resolution & SSD hybrid drives and blueray, I think it's the A3?).

I haven't had any issues with it, however, I did wipe the partitions and drives and did a clean install of Windows7. It's never crashed, blazingly fast and looks great.

I have noticed the screen has a slight 'halo' around it when booting, and while in use though not as noticeable after it boots up. I don't want to deal with sending it in, as it otherwise works perfectly and better than any laptop I've owned. I don't want to get caught up in the endless RMA cycle I've read about here and elsewhere. With luck they'll update the graphics driver and maybe it'll be related to that.

Speaking of drivers, I've noticed they seem to move on from a model much sooner than other laptops I've owned. HP seemed to come out with updates for about a year after purchase, Dell for 1-2 years. My ASUS had a few minor updates, then nothing. ATI has come out with a few updates for the ATI Radeon graphics card in the G73JH, but ASUS hasn't trickled any of this down to drivers specific to my laptop. Blueray discs look amazing, and I'm not much of a gamer, so it's not that there are any problems -- but just knowing that ASUS is already seemingly ignoring this model is a concern...

Overall, I like it though, but it doesn't seem to be a goal of ASUS to create brand-loyalty with purchasers of it's products.

Asus are by far the best notebook company i have known!
Best price/performance ratio's and best design and warranty service!
A friend that had an older asus notebook told me to not get an Asus, but as it was alot cheaper to a similar specc'd HP i got it!
I've loved it since and it's a massive improvement to my Compaq! I'd reccomend Asus to anyone, infact i do quite often! They have won my love :p

If it's just new theyre probably looking for problems to fix with it.. And Building a list of them to fix and goals for the next release of BIOS/Drivers etc..
Just wait, they will get there! They are still releasing new drivers for the N61 Series (well N61Jq) because someone said in the owners lounge a new bios was coming soon! :D

I own a g73jw and I am in love with this monster. MY wife is pissed because of this thing.... but she cant play all my games at max settings!

Seriously though, I have always been a huge fan of Asus. their desktop parts are top of the line with unsurpassed quality by any brand, and their laptops beat the snot out of any other brand as far as price/performance ratio.

I've used a few ASUS notebooks in my day. Asus would be the perfect computer company except for two griefs I have with them:
    1) Poor quality LCDs on most current notebooks
    2) Lack of continued support for non-G series notebooks. What I mean by this, is a month after a release, ASUS stops updating the bios and driver page. I don't mind finding the manufacturer drivers myself, but would it be too much to ask for ASUS to consolidate driver updates and test compatibility for at least a year?
