I just popped out 2gb of ram from my G73 as it had 8gb. Previously when i tried it wouldn't work. Now i just popped it in and it works with the new bios. I'm using a VX6. Correct me if i'm wrong, but now in 64bit the full 4gb will be used?
Edit: Reads 4gb on my vx6 in 64bit.

The 0604 BIOS isn't an oficiall update for the 1215N (not released on asus.com anyways). Can this cause any issues when installing the official ones later?

I sent my device to ASUS for RMA... I ruled out all possible causes of my issues (flashed bios etc) so I lost my patience.
Guess what, it came back today. All they did was, yes, flash BIOS.
What's funny is that it worked a little, until I decided to copy my profile back onto the device and start using it. Crash, just like before.
So I went to the logs and stuff and I found out that my drive has a few bad blocks! That means that the transparent bad cluster management is out of unassigned free clusters to fix itself with, and now it's starting to show the system.
So I wrote another RMA request letter... and up up and away we go again. -
Does anyone know if its possible to force the nvidia into be always on. some games which require a launcher are unable to use the ion chip, such as anarchy online.
Also im getting some strange playback with 720p video files, image seems split in the middle but not so much choppy. is this dueto drivers or codecs? -

Hey guys, super noob question here, but I finally got my hands on this netbook. Super excited and I switched out the old ram to 4gb of ram. I want to do a full reformat to Windows 7 64 bit. Would this just be a typical reformat just like any other laptop and after i'm installing Windows, i finish it up dling all the drivers from
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Eee - ASUS Eee PC 1215N ?
Thanks again guys for any help. -
Yeah there is not much to it. The only drivers that I needed to install after were the LAN, video and function key driver. I did not download all of the drivers available from the ASUS site. Just play around with it you'll figure out which ones that you need/want. Also the drivers on ASUS site do not officially support 64bit Win 7, but you can install them, just don't use the ASUS executable, use the regular setup.exe for example.
There is an exception the video drivers will not work if downloaded from the ASUS site, so you have to get the drivers from Nvidia and Intel.
Hope that helps you out. -

hey guys, i was specting this thread all the way around, im from arg, i got two of this babys, i flashed them with the 503 and its performing well enough...
Anyway, i 'd just checked the asus ftp = ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/
and i found the new bios 604 - 605, they are still on beta stage right ?
cause the only one i read in this thread is the one for the vx6...
just checking if i could get a little more performance with the new bios...
another question is the new SHE is working as it should? cause the version that come installed just froze all my apps -
So I am interested in overclocking my 1215n, but I have never used SetFSB before. Is there a guide somewhere to using it on this netbook? Or can someone here help me out?

Hey DraXxus1549, You mentioned that i should dl the video/graphics drivers from the nvidia site when i upgrade to Win 7 64bit. Do i dl the 260.99 drivers?

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Yup. Those drivers were working perfectly for me.

The second slider - the small one at the bottom is irrelevant. -

So, I'm getting another 1215n since my brother bought my first one.
I know I'm definetely adding in a 500GB Momentus XT and a total of 4GB of RAM, and I'm pretty sure I'll have it overclocked 'round the clock with SetFSB.
Should I spend an extra five bucks and get 1333MHz DDR3 for overclocking, or should 1066 suffice? Ideally, I'm shooting for 2.0GHz on the Atom without voltage mods, but we know that not all CPUs are made equal.
(That assumes, of course, that the 1215n still uses FSB and that RAM max frequency plays a role in overclocking; I don't know). -
hi, guys, i've been following this thread since before i got my 1215n and have to say that you've done a pretty decent job at keeping people informed! i'd like to report that i've been able to overclock my system to 2ghz before it starts to studder, then eventually bsod,
i dunno if more ram would make it better but in it's stock form but 200mhz is not bad,
as for games most of the time i've played games at regular clock though since it seems to run them perfectly fine with the newer drivers i had 266.35 but i'm about to try the 260.66and see weather they are better or not...
ok lets get to the games i've got installed, i'll run fraps and get a reading soon but yeah point,
halo, rainbow six vegas 2, mechwarrior 4 mercs, GTA4 and eflc, x3 tarran conflict, C&C gen zero hour and 3, zsnes and vertual boy advance. every one of those games run flawlessly, gta4 and C&C 3 don't run maxxed but everything else does or close to it.
gta4 is playable but definitely slower compared to a desktop machine particularly when it rains, but i think i was overclocking the ion too much and it was underclocking it because of that... lol it was only today that i learned exactly HOW gpuz told you what was going on! -
Also you should easliy surpass 2ghz mark without voltage mods... how high you can go however is like you say down to the chip but i'd bank on you getting at least 2.2 stable since that seems to be well in the safe zone for most people.

THanks -
Has anyone had any issues with the LAN port? Mine works, but for some reason the ethernet cable will not click in. I can plug a cable in but its not secure and can be pulled out easily.
-
In other news I upgraded to 4gb RAM and 64bit windows now and things seem quite a bit snappier. Programs load up faster and windows no longer hang for a second or 2... also in game performance has increased aswell. The only game i've tried so far is the arkham asylum demo but the framerate has gone from 16-18fps to 20+ consistantly. Not great still but its a decent improvement.
Also i can confirm that you can use any windows 7 64 bit disk in combination with the product key on the bottom of the machine. So if you have an installation disk from another system you can use that to upgrade to 64 bit if you wish. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Or a USB drive and the handy ISOs we have on this forum.
Hmm. What drivers did you use? -
NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.35 BETA -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I meant more along the lines of other drivers, like chipset, keyboard, etcetera.
-
-
Soooo any problems with the 266.35 beta drivers? Any improvements?
I actually purchased this netbook on Friday and awaiting for it to arrive. And I'm mainly going to be using it for lectures and typing up notes and reports. (maybe a bit of gaming...)
So I'm looking at the ASUS' drivers download, and I see revision date 2010/08/18 Update for the nVidia... what driver version is that?
Also is the driver for the Intel's GMA ok to be downloaded from Intel's website? (if there is one, that is) Or just stick with the one provided in the ASUS' driver download page?
Thank you very much,
PS: oogamer, great work on the performance reviewsMuch appreciated

Performance wise it isn't much different from the best performing asus drivers so it's as good as it gets atm.
The driver listed for the 1215n on the asus site is 257.14 i think but that's not the latest asus driver for this machine its just they haven't updated the list. Besides the new beta 266.35 works well anyway so i'd just skip to that.
As for the gma drivers i would just let windows updat take care of it since there hasn't been a driver update for the 3150 for a while.
Update: Just found out that the new nvidia beta drivers still produce artifacts in Starcraft 2. For all the starcraft players the best driver is still the asus 259.64 driver. -
Can the 1215n run Counter-Strike Source, World of Warcraft, Doom 3, Farcry (orig), and F.E.A.R (orig) at native resolution at least at medium settings with decent 30fps?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
CSS should run without a hitch, as should Doom and FEAR.
-
For those that are wondering, the system is able to play COD BlackOps on Minimum Settings but full res.
and Pro 2011 both run very smooth, impressed with the perforamce, where as fifa 2011 is unplayable.
its a shame the iondrivers wont work with my most played game anarchy online -
Updated to the new 266.35 drivers, tried Starcraft 2 but it got the usual artifacts problem, fps drop etc until SC2 crash. It seems like they dont know/ can fix this problem? Or is it just my 1215N? Rolling back to the old drivers, again... >.<
-
here SC2 got fps drops every few seconds with the new 266.35 drivers too, it`s not just your machine... sticking with 259.64 drivers with better overall performance... till now...
-
It's disappointing to say the least... i thought they'd finally fixed it. -
@oogamar:
Did you upgrade to the new drivers (just installing the new one)? Or did you first remove what VGA drivers you had and then install? I dont know if it does any difference but maybe drivers can disturb one another? Thx for the answer beforehand -

Hi everyone, thanks for everything in this thread so far. One question why does my asus1215n have a Local Disk C: and Local Disk D:? C: is the only one being used with 72.4 GB free of 99.9 and then Drive D: is 117gb out of 117gb free?

That's really all i can say to help, other than google your tvs model number and see if its a common problem. -
oogamar - what drivers do you think are the best for the 1215n so far? I have 266.35 drivers. Also is there any other netbook that is better than the 1215n except for the alienware one.
-
As for machines that are "better" i would say that many of the current AMD netbooks (eg. dell m101z, upcoming 1215b) are at least on par with the 1215n if not better due to the lack of a cripling pcie bottleneck and the fact that the processors in the amd's are generally far better that the intel atom.
But the gap still isn't all that big between the high-end netbook systems, the amd's will be able to do certain things better than the intel/nvidia netbooks and be more consistant doing it, but the intel/nvidia solutions will have instances of greater performance depending on the program/game etc.
So as far as CURRENT models go it's all apples and oranges but if you were to push me i would say that the an amd netbook would be the smarter choice, especially with their upcoming chips which promise even better performance. But as i said, the gap still isn't all that big and the 1215n is a fine machine for the price you pay.
Unless of course you want to pay £650+ in which case you do go into the territory of the alienware and the higher end 13" asus models etc. which are much more powerful.
Hope that helps you and doesn't confuse the issue even more -
this is so lagggy, i tried counter strike 1.6 at 640 res
with the 260.99 drivers, got like 50 fps and freezes sometimes, and the left 4 dead runs smooth on 260, the old ones suck, but still got like 30 fps, its unplayable.... -
Has anyone here upgraded to 4gb of ram on this laptop? If you did, was there a noticeable difference in performance? I am thinking about doing it but not if its not going to change anything lol.
-
Hi everyone.
Thanks for such an informative thread!
Recently purchaced the 1215n and need some direction. Could someone explain the process of upgrading Windows to 64bit version and updating the bios so that I can install and make use of the extra ram? I know I read that in the thread but can't seem to find it now...
TIA
